Pros +
- Historic hotel, beautiful setting
- Great location and recorded a couple ghost sounds. Hotel is quite pretty
- Love the location and history of The Stanley.
Cons -
- My room was at top of the steps, noise level was unbearable! The doors were right past my room, everyone kept closing them with a loud bang. The elevator was on the side of my wall and I kept hearing it going up and down all night. I wasn't able to sleep.
- LOUD. Old hotel=walls made of paper. Add in people roaming the halls at all hours ghost hunting, screaming when they "see" one, trying out all the doors. Fun, but no sleep.
- Several of the staff were just rude. The steak from the restaurant was absolutely terrible! My husband nor I could bring ourselves to eat more than a couple bites. Paying $--- a night for a tiny room, youd think they'd let you do ghost tour for free-

Love the location and history of The Stanley.
room was dirty with mold in the shower, cigarette ashes on the sill, broken window and used water bottles behind the chair and bed.. Our thermostat was stuck at 58. We where told that the lounge was closing at 9 but was pushed away at 7:50.
Location, history, clean, friendly staff. We highly recommend The Stanley !
Wouldâ≢ve liked a tub and shower and not a handicap room but itâ≢s still a wonderful experience
Location
Dirty room. TV didnâ≢t work. Dirty linens left in the room. Lamp didnâ≢t work. Heat could not be turned off and the hotel staff could not fix it. Had to change rooms.
This was my fourth trip to the hotel and has always been outstanding in the past. This was my first time in the main hotel. I have always stayed in the lodge in the past. They used to have free breakfast there, but no more. We were celebrating my wifes BD
There were gnats in the room. The baseboard heating grill was just laying on the floor. the room smelled musty and we had to leave the window open for fresh air. Something outside was banging in the wind all night and kept us awake. Hard pillow, sore neck
The location of the hotel in Estes Park offers a panoramic view of the mountains. That, combined with the history of the hotel make it a very interesting place. The staff members were also very helpful.
The staff members weren't even attempting to enforce a Covid policy. Masks were barely worn (or missing completely) and there was no social distancing nor restrictions on the number of people allowed in the building.
You cannot beat the location and the hotel itself is very charming.
The people at the front desk are rude and grumpy. They need to hire more happy and welcoming staff. The room was very cold, maintenance came over but this not help much. Our room was 60 degrees.
Historical setting
Inconvenient parking/baggage unloading. Small, slow elevator. Small room with no seating.
The history, and the location. The nostalgic atmosphere.
The lack of information on check in and out locations. No one told us about what amenities where available. Restaurant staff and management was beyond horrible.
Beautiful setting
Mainly - Bathroom not clean (hairs on sink) Less important, only decaf coffee in room. But they gave us regular coffee at the front desk
Historic Stanley hotel
Was pushed into an adjacent building that still falls under the Stanley name. It was not THE Stanley. It was a separate building a block away.
Kids wanted to stay here because of it being in several movies. They liked it, but otherwise I would not have stayed.
Hotel appears as though the upkeep is just enough to keep functioning and bring in the cash. Best Western in the least populated county in the nation was better (literally) if that tells you anything.
The room was spacious.
Room is so barely furnished. No hair dryer. Rat running in the kitchen which the hotel staff dismissed as being in the mountain. The hotel front desk has only one staff member, so hard to get through to talk to someone. Whisky Bar was crowded.
The views.
HUGE disappointment that the main hotel was not even open. Paid the same price for a mediocre room with mold all over the shower curtain.
View of the Rocky Mountains are breathtaking. Very friendly staff. Clean rooms.
For the price, the room sucked. Small, kept bangi,g our legs on bed frame, no chair, insufficient life's in bathroom, I could go on and on. Very clean, tho. Surroundings great.
View, charm, staff
No hot water, no kleenex, no blowdryer, had very little toilet paper upon check in.
The history and location of this hotel are undeniably appealing. The lower level of the main building has fascinating photos of famous guests. By all means visit and take the tours, but stay in a newer hotel with working amenities and pay much, much less.
The Stanley banks heavily on its history/prestige but neglects things that make for a good stay. 100+ years old, the two older buildings are falling apart and lots of things do not work. Visit, but stay elsewhere. The rooms are not special or even nice.
