Review summary

The hotel received generally positive feedback for its great location, spacious and comfortable rooms, and friendly staff, making for a pleasant stay overall. However, cleanliness issues were highlighted, with several reviews mentioning dirt and stains in the rooms, which detracted from the experience. Despite some dated features and slow lift service, guests appreciated the amenities and good vibes of the hotel, finding value in their stay.

This is such an elegant beautiful old hotel in a central location. Rooms are spacious for the city and beds are comfortable. Bathrooms are nice too.

The hotel needs some updating. The lobby and rooms are looking shabby. The Top of The Mark is such a great bar and an SF Institution but we had a bad experience there -- dirty tables, no lighting, very understaffed. We waited in line at the bar for 20 min. for a drink and as soon as we got them they turned up all the lights in the room and announced they were closed.

It's a beautiful hotel.

No Coffee or Tea in the room. We could not go to the Top of the Mark during our stay because it was close fro Christmas Party!!

It’s a beautiful hotel. We loved the Christmas decorations in the lobby and the coffee available in the mornings. Very comfortable beds and a location with great city views.

For such a nice hotel, I would’ve expected access to water in the lobby. The sink water also took forever to get warm and had pretty light water pressure (although the shower was great). There was some construction going on at the entrance that also resulted in us not realizing you can pull into the entrance so we ended up carrying our bags in from the street off the hillside. Normally I wouldn’t mind but I was traveling with my parents and wanted to give them a nice experience. Also the rooftop restaurant I was underwhelmed with.

Everything went well. The staff and management were great, especially considering the fact that they were VERY busy the weekend we were there due to the Holidays. The room/bed were very comfortable. What you'd expect from the Mark Hopkins SF.

The location is perfect!

The elevators were sooooo slow! Top of the Mark is very overpriced! Locked fridge in room & no microwave. No coffee in room! Check in was less than good! Don't think the receptionist wanted to be there!

Wonderful experience in a top-notch hotel. The entire experience exceeded my expectations. Rooms were clean and well-appointed, the view was extraordinary. Highly recommended to anyone seeking a great experience in San Francisco.

Nothing comes to mind.

Room view, cleanliness, comfortable beds.

The staff at the reception were rude and the opposite of welcoming.

The beds were very comfortable, the rooms were clean, and the location was great. The water was hot and the pressure was great. The staff was helpful and friendly. The Top of the Mark was beautiful and I love the history of it.

The hotel is dated and with virtually no amenities. The Top of the Mark was beautiful but expensive. Expect to pay $25 per drink. Our stay was during the 4th of July. We chose this hotel so we could enjoy a beautiful view of the fireworks. We found out the day prior that they were charging a $25 per couple to be admitted to the Top of the Mark.. We were disappointed that we had to pay the hotel extra for something that should have been included in our 5-day stay. The refrigerator in the room was stocked but ridiculously expensive.
