Pros +
- A beautiful setting. The private harbour is quaint & picture-perfect. The loggia and restaurant afford a beautiful vista of the lake and are a lovely place to take breakfast or dinner. Reception staff (and some, but not all of the wait staff) were helpful and friendly. The tavern and bistro lunch offerings were lovely & fresh. The main restaurants salted sea bass was divine & the waiter helped us with our wine choices which were all lovely accompaniments to our meal & didnt break the bank!
- The hotel is wonderful, the historical aspects second to none and the location amazing.
Cons -
- There are so many little things that could be done to transform this hotel from good to exceptional. Currently its a little like Faulty Towers: nothing quite seems to flow smoothly (eg, it took more than 2 hours for our bags to move from reception to our room which was approx. 15 metres away and I constantly had to ask reception to unlock the outer building door on the way to our room which was inexplicably permanently locked). - Allocate an indoor lounge area for guests to chill out and take a drink after hours or in bad weather (the bar outside closes at 9pm and after that theres nowhere to go). - Refresh the rooms: they are a bit tired & dated. Room 11 was quite dark & drab. The windows are low-set so dont afford a view or much light. - Offer complimentary drinking water in the rooms (the hotel is not close to shops). - Room upgrades: we were asked repeatedly (before and upon our arrival) if we wanted to upgrade (probably because they knew how dark & drab our room was), but at a cost: if you have a better room available just offer the upgrade for free (the goodwill you foster is priceless). - Do a light overhaul of the harbour dining area (the tables & chairs were all over the place & there are giant white bottles of disinfectant and wipes dotted around everywhere in clear view of patrons: side note, is the disinfectant suitable for use near aquatic life?). A small bunch of flowers dotted here & there, baskets to hide your cleaning products, etc.): its such a gem of an area but feels a bit chaotic and unloved. - Make better use of the courtyard seating area outside reception (it isnt inviting: it feels like a thoroughfare and the little signs stuck to the furniture allocating it as hotel guest use only looks tacky).
- Avoid loud tourists at the height of season.
