Residence Inn by Marriott San Diego Downtown/Gaslamp Quarter

The location is great. The breakfast was good.

I had reserved a Queens Bed bedroom. When reaching the hotel the front desk said that the Queens Bed bedroom is not yet available but a Special Needs one is available immediately. They asked if we would take the one available immediately. Since we had come a long way we took the available room. The room layout was highly disappointing. The bed was directly facing the bathroom. No privacy. The wash basin was outside the bathroom right next to the bed. Extremely inconvenient. We then used the phone in the room to call the front desk but no one answered. I then used the online available phone number and called from my mobile. We requested to get a room change. The front desk staff was again going to alot a special needs room. We clarified that we did not need a special needs room. They then gave us another room. The new room was better but the wash basin was still outside the bathroom. We then had requested water to be delivered to our room. We never got the water. I have stayed in other Mariott hotels as well as other hotels and have had a wonderful time. This time however I was disappointed.

The bed was uncomfortable, so were the pillows. The cost to park your car was ridiculous. $65.00 a night. Where else are you supposed to park? I won't be staying there again.

Convenient location in the heart of Gaslamp Quarter very close to the baseball stadium and convention center. Spacious rooms with kitchenettes. Nice and helpful staff. Stylish lobby area with cool decorative surfboards :) And the small "market" by the reception with essential items should be an example to all hotels around the world!

Furniture could use some upgrade and renovation. The pool was underwhelming. And I was quite surprised by the use of single-use plastic cutlery and paper plates at the breakfast restaurant. This must produce tons of garbage every day! Moreover, hot breakfast items were mediocre (with the exception of a do-it-yourself waffle maker which was a great feature).

Liked the location was in a good area with alot of restaurants and shops. Was also very cool to see the Padres stadium from there. Staff was friendly. Only complaint was the bar had odd hours . Couldn't get a cocktail. But would definitely stay again.

They offered no smoking patio. I understand the smoke free rooms. But should at least offer a patio for smokers who stay.
