Top Tips
- Book hotel rooms 21-28 days before arrival to secure rates 12-18% lower than last-minute bookings within 7 days. During busy local events, availability drops sharply after this window.
- For quieter nights, choose hotels west of Travis Boulevard or in the Cordelia neighborhood, where noise averages 50 dB or less. Hotels within 300 m of I-80 typically see 65-72 dB overnight.
- Select hotels with complimentary shuttle service to Travis Air Force Base, such as Hampton Inn Suisun-Fairfield, and save $15 to $35 (often $15 to $18 each way) compared to rideshare services.
- Use a credit card for check-in to avoid $100-$150 pre-authorization holds on debit cards, which can freeze your funds for 5-7 days after checkout.
- Prioritize properties west of I-680 to reduce freeway noise and enjoy cooler nights, as temperatures east of the freeway can be 2.5-4°C higher due to urban heat island effects.
- Budget for a 4-4.3% transient occupancy tax on top of your room rate; a $120 nightly stay will incur an additional $4.80-$5.16 in taxes.
- Withdraw cash from the Travis Credit Union ATM on Sunset Boulevard to avoid surcharges of $3.50 or more at hotel or gas station ATMs.
- Request an upper-floor room to reduce flood risk if staying near Grizzly Island Road or Central Fairfield, as these areas have had 100-year floodplain mapping updates since 2020.
- Confirm your hotel offers 5 GHz Wi-Fi for reliable remote work. These networks provide upload speeds of 45-65 Mbps, double those of typical 2.4 GHz bands.
- Decline daily housekeeping during Solano County's May to October dry season to help save about 30 gallons (113 liters) of water per room per night.
- Check if your hotel offers free off-street parking. While 68% of properties do, street parking at non-gated hotels carries a 2.3 times greater risk of theft reports.
- When targeting downtown Fairfield, avoid listings for Suisun City. Locations north of 1st Street are 4.5-6 miles (12-18 minutes by car) from Fairfield's central shopping area.
