La Puerta Azul Beachfront - Adults Only

Puerta Azul is a beautiful comfortable stunningly designed hotel. It has its own beach which is a huge advantage in Holbox and a beautiful plunge pool set in a lovely courtyard with hammocks. It’s been very well planned and designed. Our room on the ground floor was spacious with excellent amenities. The staff in reception were all incredibly nice and helpful in particular Luis always smiling and eager to look after your needs. I highly recommend it . And the beach isn’t as busy as the main beaches in Holbox.

The breakfast. We asked for it to be complementary which they agreed as we stayed seven nights but I ate there only twice. It really was basic and not what a hotel on that level and price should offer. There are plenty of nice places to eat in Holbox but eating breakfast on the beach would have been appreciated

The beach area is very nice, one of the best in the area. The architecture and surroundings are beautiful and charming. The staff is kind and friendly.

It is far from the main hub and the roads were flooded due to a recent storm so it was a bit hard to navigate to and from other than on the beach.

Lack of options at the menu and price should be exactly as the booking shows… there is an extra charge commission that is not described anywhere

The location at the beach is amazing. The hotel super nice and quiet, the people kind and helpful. The condition of the general installations is maybe only 8 out of 10. Still an amazing place to enjoy, with really good breakfast at the beach!

The staff was very friendly, the lady at the front spoke English very well and was super polite, Sara I believe was her name.The beach restaurant served good food, and all the servers and bartender that worked there were efficient & friendly.Great Lobster tacos!

Slight musty smell in the room

The hotel is very beautiful. We had a sea view room and it was truly stunning and clean. Staff was nice and welcoming. They offered good breakfast options.

Since in Yucatan peninsula every 4 and 5 star hotel offers natural juice with breakfast that is included in the stay, I would suggest that they offer that too. We paid extra for it every morning but it is just not the 4* expectation to get a box juice.

Good location. A little further out from town but quiet and a nice morning walk. Room clean and comfortable and just a few steps to the beach

No terrace or balcony to sit out on and enjoy views and pool was a little small.

We traveled from New York to Cancun airport, and getting to the island was a bit overwhelming for us. However, I contacted the hotel via Booking.com, and they arranged our transportation from the airport directly to the hotel, which was very convenient and timely. I really appreciated that.I also mentioned that we were there for a romantic getaway, and upon our arrival, the hotel had thoughtfully prepared our room and bed, which was a lovely touch. The cleanliness of the hotel stood out, and I was pleased to see that our rooms were cleaned every day.The location was perfect, right by the beach, so we could easily walk straight to the shore. We spent some wonderful moments lying on the beach beds and enjoying the gorgeous sunsets.

One of the main challenges we faced on the island was the lack of mosquito control. It was particularly frustrating to dine outdoors, as we had to deal with numerous flies and mosquitoes around our food, which made the experience quite unpleasant. I’ve traveled to many islands, but I’ve never been bitten by mosquitoes as much as I was on Holbox. In places like Tulum, restaurants typically burn copal incense around the dining area to help deter mosquitoes, which makes a significant difference. My recommendation would be to incorporate this into the experience on Holbox as well.The food at the hotel was mediocre, and I was also disappointed with the amenities in the room. We only had toilet paper, and I would have appreciated having paper towels or additional towels to clean the room ourselves as needed.You should also be aware that there are no actual roads on the island, and most people get around on ATVs. The roads have significant potholes, so walking around can be a bit challenging, especially if it’s muddy. We typically walked along the beach side, but it’s also easy to get ATV taxis if needed.

We liked that the hotel is not located at the center because we wanted to relax. You can walk to restaurants and to the center on the beach.Nice beach. Good drinks at the beach.

We did not feel welcome. The staff just doesn't give the impression that they care at all. We asked 3 people about breakfast and needed the guy taking care of the beach to tell us that we were too early (I speak Spanish, so that was not the issue).Nobody asked how our stay was. Nobody seemed to ever have seen us before.Pool not usable. Breakfast disappointing.

Very beautiful hotel, well located at the beach far from the noise of the main town. However, everything could be reached within a short walking distance along the beach.

Someone broke into our appartment at night while we were sleeping. Security staff was not there and the „emergency contact number“ was not available the whole night. We felt very alone. The next day, staff was very unhelpful, incompetent and only had evading answers (e.g. they told us the Security Staff was having his day off. However, we never saw any security during our whole stay).Breakfast is not worth the money. Restaurant staff was also very rude.
