    Pros +

    • I liked staying in a tatami room. Physical keys were nice to see instead of key cards. Snowboard storage and gear drying room were nice. Location isn’t the best but not too far from echoland with a lot of restaurants. They also have a laundry room and detergent for sale.
    • A lovely appointed and cosy lodge with a quiet yet family-friendly environment. The communal space is very welcoming, particularly at the end of a ski day, with couches and big arm-chairs by an open fire and a small bar area. The accommodation is roomy by Japanese standards with space to lay out suitcases, etc. Breakfast is set but with variations each morning, but always with Western and Japanese mix. The eggs were always appreciated to start each day. They also have a dinner menu if you prefer to stay in at the end of the day rather than venture out. Unfortunately, we didn't have an opportunity to try the food. The staff were very helpful, extremely friendly and accommodating and went the extra mile to make our stay comfortable. We were able to invite a friend from another lodge to join us for breakfast each morning and share the communal facilities. They offered a free shuttle pick-up and drop-off to the bus and train terminals and helped make arrangements for other transport services. We utilised a paid shuttle service they organised, to drive us to Cortina, the furtherest ski mountain not on the main routes. Otherwise, Apricot Pension is a very short walk to the bus stop for the free-shuttle service to the ski mountains, and even better, the bus stop is the first stop on routes to four of the main ski mountains, so guaranteed a seat (the stop does not service one of the main mountains so an alternative bus stop further in town is required). An easy 10 minute walk to Echoland, one of the main restaurant areas. Also, very close to one of the few Onsens in the area. The drying room was very warm and our ski gear was nicely dried by the start of each day. The projector in our room was appreciated and welcomed by our daughter especially, for some evening screen downtime.
    • Everything! Location, food, rooms (all the space), and especially the staff (and owner)

    Cons -

    • You need to wear slippers inside, which is ok. They were out of slippers sometimes. I was not aware they offered a shuttle service. It is only free once but getting a cab is difficult.
    • The breakfasts were very tasty, however, a buffet style would have been better for our purposes, as we prefer a big, high protein start to a ski day and would have opted for more eggs, bacon, etc and less carbs. We accept that bathrooms in Japan are small, but there was a lack of ventilation in the bathrooms.
    • The location is a bit far from Happo One and at least 10 min walk to the nearest restaurant. The main city area near the bus station is too far to walk.

The staff made the stay great. They were helpful and communication was immediate even before arrival. I got information about travel and ski rentals They provide shuttle service for 800yen a person which I think is reasonable for transportation anywhere in Hakuba.

The location is a bit far from Happo One and at least 10 min walk to the nearest restaurant. The main city area near the bus station is too far to walk.

The staff were very friendly and the vibes are really homely. Facilities are clean enough.

The door for the rooms are quite low in height but passable.

The staff were just amazing. Grace (owner) was warm and friendly with every encounter, and when my son was unwell with Asthma , Grace prioritized his care, calling clinics to assist us with translation etc. Peter drove us to the Dr's, he was concerned and helpful taking us to the pharmacy afterwards. I cannot remember the young blonde staff members name, but she was fun and always genuinely happy and chatty. I loved 'May'...this lady was very special, always helpful, always smiling and chatty and one day when I really needed it, she just knew and gave me a hug - you have no idea how much that lifted me up that day May...thank you! For the staff alone I will return to Apricot Pension. 10/10

I could not fault my stay at the pension. A 10-15 min walk into 'Echo Land' the main drag (where the shops and restaurants are) but we loved the snowy walk and snowballing fun along the way. We were warm, comfortable, and well cared for from the start of our stay to the waves goodbye in our Uber back to the station.

Cute cozy vibe. Lots of toys for children to play with indoors and outdoors. Pick up from bus station. Staff were knowledgeable and eager to help

Bit of a walk to the main street for dinner with my elderly parents. But shuttle bus stop to the ski resorts are just around the corner which is great

I loved this little Pension, warm welcoming, a quick walk to town, a nice brekky each day- 3 of us shared a room and it was very comfortable. Also we enjoyed the projector in the room for watching movies.

Handmade, delicious and healthy. They were very kind about dietary restrictions (dairy and gluten).

It's homey but not like a lux hotel stay. Depends what you're looking for. This one is very popular so they could expand as sometimes the equiptment room for ski gear was very tight.

    10NorbertPosted on: 2-27-2025

Clean, organised, quiet and beautiful. Drying room is nice bonus. Close to multiple ski bus stops.

It's out of the main location so taxis are required or at least ~30mins of walking each way for main attractions.

Staff were very friendly and accomodating. Room was nice and clean with great amenities.

    10Leteisha-mariePosted on: 2-13-2025

Lovely place with a good location! Breakfast was great and the shuttle station was only a minute walk. The staff were very helpful and even gave us a lift to the bus terminal when we were leaving.

We had a great three nights at Apricot Pension. The staff were very lovely and amazing at assisting us with pick up/drop off at the bus terminal. Breakfast was provided every morning and was also pretty good.

One thing to note is the location, it’s about a 10-15 minute walk into Echoland (main area), which in the snow conditions can be a little tricky. Fortunately, there is a free shuttle at a hotel about 200m walk from the pension which takes you to some of the slopes.

    10KurupinPosted on: 2-9-2025

The accommodation is very cozy, the room is excellent with full amenities, the breakfast is delicious, and the staff are very kind.

    10GlenPosted on: 2-7-2025

The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Facilities were great, free laundry room, storage for ski/boarding gear. When the taxi company couldn't pick us up in the morning they drove us down to the bus station themselves. Highly recommend staying here!

The staff were amazing and went out of their way to help us. Yummy breakfast and the dinner we had there was also great. Loved the location, close to town and buses to the ski fields.

    Good location.

We stayed 5 nights. They never changed our bed sheets or gave us fresh bath towels. They ran out of sugar sticks for coffee and never replenished them. Under our bed was very dirty. The in-house restaurant was closed on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. The staff were really lovely and helpful. But it was run on the cheap.

    10CoreenPosted on: 1-23-2025

Cozy, super comfortable beds and really helpful staff. Staff were able to receive and forward our luggage to next hotel. Also super close to a shuttle stop. Always get a spot on the shuttle at this stop as it’s normally the first stop. Good dinner and breakfast too.

    10AronPosted on: 1-21-2025

Excellent location to the bus stop .Its the first stop for the shuttle bus so you have guaranteed seats

I’m 193cm tall so for me the doors are low and the bed is short - you need to wear your helmet for the first day
