Pros +

  • This is not a hotel. It's a new home stay business. We were the first customers there according to the owner The owner tried very hard to accommodate us. We appreciate it very much!

Cons -

  • Although it is a new house, the bathroom ventilation was so bad that we could smell the gas in the room from the wastewater system frequently. The owner said the situation would be changed as the houses in the island will be connected to a wastewater sewage system in the future. No TV, which is okay for us. No restaurant in the small island so we had to rely the host to cook for us. They tried hard to provide food to us but the food was not restaurant quality yet. There are two boat transportations to/from the island, public ferry (not available everyday) and private speed boat. The ferry is slow but more stable and charges everyone same fair price. The speed boat charges foreigners 10 times more than they do for locals so we had to pay US$100/person one way to get to the island for the three hours very bumpy ride. In the future, both the public and private transportation information should be made available to the customers to the island before they book the place so they can make the travel plan based their preference. We were only informed about the speed boat option in the night before we went to the island so we thought it was the only solution. The coral there wasn't as colorful as we saw in Fiji and Indonesia islands. The visibility of the water is not better either. We had a so so snorkeling experience there in two spots. We tried to see Manta there but did not see any. In general, Maldives is not as good as they have advertised. Corals there were damaged a lot and the country's service industry charges travellers the first class prices but can only provide 2nd or 3rd class services. Too many local people and too many travellers are there in fairly limited spaces. We tried to be far away from Male, which maybe the right way to handle the problem. But...
