About

Grand Hotel Cocumella, set atop a cliff with stunning views of the bay and Mount Vesuvius, is a superior hotel featuring luxury, tradition and splendid amenities including its own sailboat. Sorrento center is 0.6 mi away. Grand Hotel Cocumella enjoys the tranquility of a quiet, privileged area. It is surrounded by pleasant gardens, orchards and orange trees. The hotel is housed in a historic 17th century villa once occupied by a Jesuit monastery, and still has its own charming chapel. A favorite choice of travelers for centuries, the hotel maintains guest books signed by greats such as Goethe, Andersen and Freud. Lunches by the swimming pool, day cruises, sunbathing on the seaside solarium, gourmet dinners – many are the options for relaxing in style at Grand Hotel Cocumella. The hotel features 3 restaurants: Agrumeto, a delicious summer restaurant with outdoor service, La Scintilla, serving fine Mediterranean cuisine in a refined atmosphere, and COKU, offering Japanese specialties. Guests can reserve day trips, excursions, and special events on the property's sailing boat.

    Cons -

    • 1. Staff Behavior at CheckoutThe most disappointing aspect of our experience was the behavior of the staff at checkout. During our stay at the beach club, we asked about purchasing cigarettes, and a staff member kindly brought us a pack. However, at checkout, another employee suddenly demanded payment of €6 in cash for that pack. We had already spent nearly €1000 on our stay and were ready to settle any extras by card, but he insisted on cash only. When we explained we had no cash, the staff member started shouting at us loudly and aggressively at the reception desk, in front of other guests. This was humiliating and unacceptable, not at all the service standard one would expect — not even in a three-star property. This single incident left a very negative impression and spoiled the overall stay.2. Facilities – GymThe gym does not have air conditioning. Considering the hot climate, this makes the gym nearly unusable during much of the day. For a hotel in this price category, this is a serious oversight and should be addressed immediately.3. Breakfast QualityBreakfast quality was underwhelming. In particular, the scrambled eggs were poorly prepared and lacked taste. At this level of accommodation, more attention to breakfast variety and quality is expected.4. Accessibility to the SeaAnother point worth mentioning is the lack of elevators or direct, accessible pathways to the sea. Guests are required to take a steep walk with many stairs, which is not only tiring but also potentially dangerous or impossible for people with disabilities, families with small children, or elderly guests. This issue significantly limits accessibility and comfort.ConclusionThe property has attractive features, but the lack of professionalism among some staff members, combined with weak facilities and accessibility issues, overshadow the positives.

The garden is beautiful and the view at the bar at sunset is beautiful. The beach club is nice but very small.

The hotel needs a DESPERATE renovation. It smells mouldy, the bathrooms are old, the shower and drains smell like sewage, the shower itself was tiny and what you would expect in a 3-star hotel. The walls and doors are very thin, we were woken up multiple times by other guests. We could literally hear the people in the room next door talk. Yes, maybe this was a 5-star hotel 10 years ago... now it should lose at least 2 or 3 of those stars. The gym and spa.. I can't describe the spa rooms. They were so old and borderline creepy. The gym has great light and almost has a retro feel as it's so old. The breakfast room is cute and there is so much staff to help with anything. The bathrooms near the breakfast room are almost funny as they are so old and none of the doors have locks?

Spectacularly beautiful “old world “ charm. The concierge, Giuseppe, is the best we have ever encountered. He takes great care of his guests. We loved everything about this hotel.

The highlight for us was the staff - everyone was incredibly helpful and kind and also funny! We'll definitely miss them! The location was great, views were lovely from the hotel grounds, the pool was really big and and comfortable lounges, pool bar was very handy as well, and the pool service was good. The hotel restaurants were really great - food was amazing and service was incredible, as were the sea views from the Japanese-fusion restaurant. Our room was large and the beds were incredibly comfortable! Housekeeping does an amazing job; daily housekeeping plus the option of clean towels in the evenings was really great. We usually don't get up for hotel breakfasts but Cocumella's buffet breakfast was incredible! We were there almost every day, the selections are fresh and vast, and the staff are really lovely and attentive! The gardens on the grounds were absolutely beautiful and incredibly well kept! Very peaceful and accessible. Free shuttle to/from town was very handy! Hotel gym is a good size with lovely windows to the garden.

Although the pool was great, in peak times there wasn't enough sun lounges for all guests and unfortunately the pool closes at 7pm each day which was a little upsetting for us as it's still sunny/hot at that time and we would have loved to swim. This is not the hotels fault but beware there are kids there, it is not adults only.

Beautiful and serene environment. Very easy and fast to get to Sorrento. Nice pool and beach setup.

We traveled with kids that are generally well behaved but like to laugh and have fun in the pool. We were told multiple times that they need to be quieter. And I heard them tell another family with kids, who were happily playing in the pool, to also be quiet. I get it, but they should have been clearer up front. And 2 of the 4 nights we were there they had weddings with loud music. Seems ironic that we were being told to be quiet....

Beautiful painted ceilings and artifacts are all over the property. They have a lemon grove and gardens all over.

AC did not keep up all the time but July is the hottest month.

Quiet, clean, friendly staff , good food, great pool

    Staff were nice

Cleanliness of the rooms. The restaurants. I found it extremely overpriced. This hotel may have been a 5star in the past but it is run down and seems more like a 3.

    9ChiaraPosted on: 8-25-2022

The staff was wonderful and beach and pool were brilliantly located.

The gym was not ventilated, the mats were old and not clean…only one running machine.

    8JanePosted on: 8-17-2022

Beautiful location. Quiet hotel. Helpful staff.Wonderful gardens

Beach set up. Too many people from the next door hotel kept sneaking onto the private beach and weren’t challenged enough.

    7SjoerdPosted on: 8-11-2022

Beautiful old monastery, spectacular views of the coast, private and idyllic little beach area plus a great lunch restaurant

Service was mediocre, about 4 or 5 times the concierge/hotel staff made a mistake with our bookings which hadn’t happened before to us in a hotel of this calibre and they didn’t seem to care

    9GhazalPosted on: 8-1-2022

The breakfast was delicious. The staff - Giuseppe and Salvadore were incredible! So kind and ever so helpful. Would definitely return

    10NigelPosted on: 6-15-2022

Wonderful location, serene and beautifully presented. Staff are wonderful and the hotel is set on a large and very well presented plot. Swimming pool area is gorgeous.

The only criticism i would have would be with the garden facing junior suites on 2 levels. They are expensive and dark. If you are over 6' 2 you would have to duck to go into the bathroom area upstairs. There is no balcony and thus feel a little clostrophobic. Having said this the staff were really good at relocating us for 6 of the 7 nights at a cost of course. The larger sea view suites are fantastic.

    10NataliePosted on: 6-11-2022

loved the view and the position of the hotel and the pool/beach and lido was great! the restaurants were delicious too! the hotel itself is a little tired in places for eg the rooms and bathrooms need updating

    needs updating

The luxurious feels of everything and the secluded haven that it was.

Food prices were very expensive in my opinion
