- Off the beaten path in a lovely neighbourhood, with a friendly staff, had an excellent stay here
- I love this place. This is my 4th time staying here. I like to go to Churieto Pagoda for sunrise and this is the perfect location to do that from. They allowed me to check in late which was helpful with my plans. Well kept tatami rooms with comfy futons. Warm in the winter. Shared kitchen space is nice in both the main building and the annex and has everything you need. I keep coming back because I find it to be so lovely and comfortable, as well as having an excellent location.
- Design, comfort, cleanliness.
Cons -
- The building is old so it may make a lot of noise just by people walking by. They offer some ear buds that may help. I should have used, but I didn't. Because of that it was difficult for me to sleep. Otherwise the comfort is great and well-located - there are great spots to visit around.
- Should have free overnight baggage storage for free if you’re (re)check-in more than once with them. 500Yen/luggage.
- It’s on the 3rd floor with only stairs which was fine for us but just FYI for those booking this specific room. Also, there is no parking here and you have to park in a lot nearby which can get pricey if you’re staying a few days.

I really loved this place. The room was super spacious, private, and comfortable, with a beautiful and stylish design. The location is amazing—right in the city center, located above Fuji Fabcafe, and with a rooftop offering a great view of Mount Fuji. The staff were friendly, and the stay was very pleasant. Highly recommended!
Everything!!! The family room we got was very spacious. The futon was very soft and comfortable. The toilet, bathroom and the kitchen were all clean. The person who assisted at the check-in was super nice.
Traditional house and room. Really cozy and felt like home. Good location. Loved the free tea and coffee and kitchenette!

This hostel has two buildings. The main building with rooms with a shared bathroom, and the two Kiku rooms with private bathrooms on the 3rd floor above the FabCafe Fuji. We booked the Kiku room (also called the Standard Twin Room on booking) for two nights with breakfast. The room is probably the most spacious room we booked in our entire 1 month trip here in Japan and it’s very reasonably priced. If you book the Kiku room you also get access to the rooftop terrace, which you can get a great view of Mt. Fuji from without the crowds. Great views, spacious room, rooftop terrace, breakfast downstairs, centrally located, not much more you could ask for!

Staff are amazing. The rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated. The breakfast was so fantastic I regretted not getting breakfast again as we were leaving early on the second morning. The bedding are very comfortable too. Bathrooms even the shared ones are sparkly clean. I really liked the toiletries too and decided to purchase some before we left. So all in all, fantastic.
- I was in the tatami room, I think it smelt a tad weird like something is a bit damp.- it’s not a problem for me, but the door can be tricky for the tatami room (very short), so you kind of need to bow down to get in- also not a problem for me but it can get quick bright early in the tatami room
The location of the property is great and we absolutely loved our stay. Our room and the facilities were exceptionally clean, the staff was very friendly and so helpful and we had a very comfortable stay. I would definitely recommend to anyone and would stay again!
There was nothing we didn’t like!
Unique hostel style. Clean. Good location.
I really love the designs and vibe of the stay. It's very cozy and has everything you need.
I didn't like that there is no parking available, however there is a paid parking nearby which is just not far away.
We had a double room, and it was perfect. Two large beds, seating area, plenty of space. The hostel has a charming little kitchen with all the utensils; they offer free coffee and choices of excellent herbal teas you can brew yourself. And being able to use the bikes was just an additional treat, for 500 yen per day per person. We rented the bikes and did a tour around Lake Kawaguchi and the bikes were in surprisingly good shape. Location is great - some 10 min from Shimoyoshida station - which is convenient for trains within the region but also for the buses to Tokyo (which are behind/near the station).Just from outside the hostel, is the famous crossing with the view of Mt Fuji, where everyone takes pictures. This makes it a great location because in the morning, you can just peak out the window to see how the sun is shining on Mt Fuji and hop outside to take pictures. It is also close to the Pagoda platform of Mt Fuji 15-20 minutes - basically up the mountain behind the station. And that covers pretty much the major sightseeing spots.
The only thing is that you have to walk a bit to find a convenience store. That;s not a fault of the hostel of course - just a statement. So if you run into one, just buy your stuff and bring it as there is none just next door. The rooms in the main building (above the reception) are up some narrow stairs - if you have heavy luggage, or issues walking up stairs, be aware of that. Also because the toilets are down the stairs next to the kitchen.
Located at one of the most scenic place near Fuji. My experience there was amazing. Staff were very accommodating and friendly to help out. The rooms were huge and comfortable. The only thing to take note of is that there are quite a bit of steps. But overall, it’s been amazing. :)
Fantastic location on Honcho Street and only a short walk to Chureito pagoda. The staff were super friendly. Room was cosy and comfortable.
The location couldn't be better just in Honcho street and close to Chureito Pagoda, the staff was very kind and the hostel is very cozy
We loved our stay at Saruya! The location was great right in the buzz of a main street. The decor was very thoughtfully done and the room huge - it felt as if real care was taken with the design. Very comfortable beds. We had breakfast at the cafe as well which was lovely.
The private room was larger than most rooms we’ve had in Japan, super clean and the decor was fantastic. The cafe downstairs was also great.
Private room in the main building was homely. Provided a heater as it was low temperatures. The hostel has a connecting cafe a few doors down, excellent coffee before the day adventures start. Central for Instagram photos and popular land marks.
The location was great for views of Mount Fuji on Honcho street. The room was very clean as were the communal areas. The bed was extremely comfortable and although I was told the room may be cold the heater made it a very comfortable temperature
Due to the nature of the building and room type it was quite loud at night but earplugs were provided.
wonderful staff, interior, authentic but very modern.warm welcome by staff and great breakfast, feeling the sunshine through big window in the cafe.
