Pros +

  • The location is exceptional. The breakfast variety and quality is amazing
  • Nice room, very comfortable bed.
  • Staff was very nice and welcoming. The property was large and diverse, the monkey trail (with no monkeys) was a nice hike that led to the beach and village nearby.

Cons -

  • I noticed that the staff required training is specific aspects related to this level of hotel and the company should invest in training their staff on all aspects. The staff is super friendly and helpful but lack knowledge on specific aspects.
  • Late check in at 3 pm, so boat services to hotel is limited so I understand only one boat for coming and going. Breakfast was not included on my stay. $1000 baht cash out of pocket.
  • If you are in Thailand for the first time, you would probably be fine with it, but for us it was a bit overpriced while the facilities felt worn down and a bit dirty. There wasnt garbage on the floor or anything, but it felt unclean. Like, some surfaces hasnt been cleaned for a while. Thai restaurant in hotel was pricy, but average. I recommend to take a monkey trail for beach restaurants there. In overall, it was a disappointment, but we travel a lot and explore many places in different price range, so its all part of the adventure.

The view is breathtaking – truly one of the world's most beautiful beaches. Plus, the breakfast was delicious and very generous

be aware of a few significant drawbacks. Firstly, the food and beverage prices are shockingly high, significantly more expensive than what you would typically find in Thailand. Be prepared to pay a premium for every meal and drink.Secondly, while the shuttle boat does its job in transporting guests, it quickly becomes a hassle if you plan on exploring beyond the resort. If you're considering a stay longer than 3-4 nights, you might feel somewhat trapped due to the reliance on this ferry. Finally, the hotel appears to be showing its age, and there's a noticeable lack of effort in maintaining or renovating the property. While not dilapidated, it's certainly not as fresh and modern as it likely once was.

Pool was nice, breakfast was good, restaurant was good but expensive

Well to start… getting to the property by a long tail boat sucked!!We were soaking wet and our luggage was wet too when we arrived!!No access for cars, taxi, etc.Upon check-in we arrived at 3pm… we waited nearly 90 minutes to get checked in!!After getting soaked on longtail boat from pier to hotel, they made us wait to check in, the room was not air conditioned we had to wait in and was about 95F inside the waiting area (it was cooler outside)And didn’t even offer us something cold to drink while we waited!!Then after 90 minutes our room was ready but no golf cart was available to bring us too our room so we walked up the stairs and uphill mountain walkway instead of waiting more!!Then it took them an additional hour to bring our luggage to our room!!At this point all we wanted was to shower and change clothes but we couldn’t!!Very bad first impression and mis-managed property!!Also take a look at the view they advertise for a premium king and look at my pic of actual view!!

-staff lovely but extremely understaffed

-this is I’d say a 3 star hotel not like the photos, we checked into our room and I asked they move us to a better room as it looked nothing like the photos- the best room view was much nicer but still not anything like I thought I was booking. -no hot water for a few of our days -they lost our bags for hours and after many calls we finally got them -location meant you had to get a boat into ao nang and back it was so poorly run that you would book it and then be told you were unable to get on.

The staff were incredibly friendly. Buffet was great. Amazing wildlife. Great views.

Building materials and pipes etc.. could be seen when you looked off the paths and it was a bit rough around the edges beyond the polished surface. Rubbish from rooms left outside the bedrooms too much in big bin bags.

Old, dirty, and overpriced resort, I wish we had stayed literally anywhere else.

Uncomfortable, old and dirty rooms.

7TrevorPosted on: 4-16-2025

The location was great.

No golf channel or Netflix movie channel on the small tv. We didn't like the transparent door on the toilet, no privacy. We feel the price's of the food and wine were too expensive. THB 80 for water to drink with dinner is too much.

Poor

Staff was meanThey charged us twice the amountDid not refund as promised

2MarkPosted on: 4-11-2025

very tired resort - if you are closing for complete refurbishment then you know how bad it is and you should not be charging the prices that you are - Also - why no free boat service to Ao Nang beach ?????? I could not climb the monkey trail and I had to bet a boat to the pier and then a taxi all the way back to a beach that is just around the corner - and then a taxi back and then a long boat ride back - absolutely ridiculous

felt like a prisoner

The view and surroundings 10/10,

Room cleanliness poor, didn’t noticed any cleaning in the room apart of the clean towels, bed covers and bin emptied. Once we checked in the room, room floor wasn’t clean, can’t walk with bear foot, this remain all our stay. Wc in the room very poor, needs replacement at least of the toilet seat.

The scenery and nature was very beautiful. The breakfast was ok, but nothing more comparing with the other hotels we visited.

The rooms where more than big enough, but the cleaning lacked, especially the windows from the bathroom and Toilet, the corners where not really clean, the shower drains could also use an extra clean. And the cupboards are outdated and don't fully close.Due to the fact that the hotel is isolated, the Hotel takes advantage with their pricing, as a client you are feeling being ripped off. The taxi boats are like the boats where you transport garbage, it is really not a 5* Hotel worthy. On top they drop you at several km from the AO Nang promenade( so you always need a taxi to go to there). The hotel is exactly just behind the monkey trail ( 600 m) and it should be normal that the taxi boat drops their clients 600 m ( so they could do a trip every 15 min.) instead of 10km far away. The WORST is that all the sewage of AONANG flows in the sea just at the monkey trail. The sea water at the hotel beach is so polluted that swimming in the Aonang poop is really unhealthy and dangerous. The sea water really smells ( STINKS) and the water is green-brown. The hotel rating 5* is really exaggerated for a outdated , not so clean hotel with a beach that is a danger for your health.

We enjoyed the pool and beach. The beach in front of the hotel is beautiful.

Considering the high cost of this hotel, we expected a higher level of service and better maintained facilities. The room assigned to us was unacceptable with a broken door lock and non-functioning telephone. However, the 2nd room assigned to us was much better and we had a comfortable stay. The breakfast was ok, but not up to par compared to the many other hotels we’ve visited in Thailand. We did not like having to walk the monkey trail after dinner each night. The hotel’s complementary boat shuttle only runs every 1.5 hours and has to be prebooked, which was not very convenient.

Pros: - Beautiful facilities- Tasty food- Plenty of options for things to do on and around the resort- Very kind staff, available always- Helpful app for all resort activities and communicationCons: (typically I would not be bothered by much of this, but given the price, I expected better)- Transportation was a bit challenging to figure out, particularly for early morning flights — hotel airport shuttle was very expensive, and no other options given, so we ended up booking a taxi in town, meaning we had to take the monkey trail over before sunrise. - Resort was quite buggy (mosquitoes and cockroaches in room and throughout resort)- Hot tub over 30 minutes to fill up & the cold water knob was broken so only very small stream came out

It was definitely not worth the price we paid. The hotel was very outdated and wasn’t well taken care of at all. There was no proper management at the location and staff was seasonal. Not many of them know what they’re doing. I’ll give sample bad points here.- you need to access the resort by speed boat shuttle that runs every 2 hrs and basically full all the time. You’re stuck in the hotel with no flexibility - staff at check-in didn’t inform us of how far the room was from the reception and failed to ask if we wanted a buggy to the room- we found somebody’s else’s top in our wardrobe at check-in. Basically the room wasn’t cleaned properly - the phone in the room wasn’t working. We informed them and they said they sent someone and it wasn’t working until the last day. We had to use ‘Speaker’ function if we wanted to call them but no one answered the phone anyway, despite dialing emergency number- spa staff messed up our booking timing and therapist- pool was filthy- sun bed was extremely run down- lack of staff at the restaurants and literally not competent. They told me staff was mostly ‘seasonal’ so they’re there just for a bit they’re not actually working there. So they have no idea what’s going on. They don’t even clean glasses or plates the same day. They only do it the next morning. You can imagine how bad it was, food and drinks were left overnight outside while there are monkeys, rats, squirrels running around- we asked the reception if they do any tours (which they do) and they just looked at us ‘blank face’ with no reply- honestly, I could go on and on about our bad experience with this report. It’s a shame. It’s a beautiful place with beautiful scenery but wasn’t taken care of properly and lack of trained staff. Really not worth the money

Staff

1. Breakfast was repetitive.2. Partner had severe food poisoning that required me to ferry in doctors since they didnt have one. Nobody from Management showed up or even checked on us...

Amazing location

It was a little run down and the shuttle can be difficult

I've dreamed about coming to stay here since my last visit to Ao Nang in 2008. It was amazing staying at Grand Centara. The staff were amazing and so helpful. The breakfast buffet was incredible and the choice of food was brilliant. The views, the location, the whole setting with the backdrop of the amazing cliffs was like something out of a movie. The views from the room were just sublime and everything I have dreamed of. The monkeys!!!! omg They were incredible!! Amazing family of Lemur monkeys were adorable. Provided hours of entertainment!!

The decor in the room wasn't that great... the style was beautiful, but repair work had been carried out and the plaster and paint was sprayed and splashed all over the walls of shower area. The outside of the bath was particularly dirty and grimy. There were Several parts of the room which were in need of repair. Throughout the resort, there were areas needing fixed or redecorated.. but we heard that Centara Grand is closing in a few weeks to have a makeover - so this is good to hear! But... despite the repairs - the staff and views and food made up for it!!
