    Pros +

    • Rooms are spacious, comfortable, and well furnished
    • We had the most wonderful time at the hotel! Staff were very professional and welcoming, breakfast was outstanding, the whole stay very relaxing! Onsent was incredible. The hotel is located by beautiful lake, great for walks and long runs!
    • We were expecting a fine hotel experience for our trip to Nikko but experienced so much more at the Ritz Carlton. Elevated, serene, beautiful facilities and accommodations along with one superlative food experience, made for one of our favorite stays anywhere, ever. Both of our rooms were wonderful, but the suite was just wonderful. All of the food was very good during our stay, but our omakase experience - our favorite sushi ever and one of our favorite meals ever. (For what it's worth, I have never used 'ever' so often in a review) Consistently friendly, helpful staff as well. This is a unique and special place and I fully expect that we'll retreat here again on future trips to Tokyo.

    Cons -

    • Food was significantly below expectations. The buffet style breakfast had poor choice, while box-style breakfast was not to everyone liking. The same situation with dinner, which was way overpriced. Additionally, the facilities of this caliber are expected to have a normal swimming pool that was absent.
    • The hotel is a very good distance from the train station and Nikko proper so be prepared for long and winding taxi rides to and from (to give you a sense of the distance, iirc I think they were around $40+ each way). That said, it's a very pretty drive and there's a reason the Nikko is where it is - in the mountains, abutting the lake, (very) proximate to waterfalls, with gorgeous vistas from our lakeside rooms.
    • The Japanese restaurant has zero atmosphere. A minimal dress code should be imposed to avoid shorts and gym wear. Loud and unpleasant.A carpet in the room would be more cozy

One of the best hotels we have ever stayed in from extremely friendly and responsive staff to facilities. Everything is perfect

Just small stuff, the gym doesn’t have enough weights, missing are 2kg, 4kg, 8kg, 12kg set of weights

Impressive architecture!Very beautiful interior design.Very clean everywhere. The staff was very kind and very keen to assist us.The location is perfect if you want to spend a short amount of time surrounded by nature.

The view is spectacular. The place could not be better located.

Could provide shuttle service to Nikko, and be clear on your website that the hotel is 18 km from world heritage sites. But this is minor.

    10AdamPosted on: 7-13-2023

The setting and rooms were very nice. Beautiful public areas too.

The costs for food and drink or 2 to 3 times normal expensive hotel rates. One expects expensive, but this was a little like highway robbery.

    10GillianPosted on: 5-3-2023

stunning location, helpful staff, immaculate amenities

    10SamuelPosted on: 12-13-2022

well-kept, modern with traditional touches, tastefully designed, clean and well-thought out.

My stay at Ritz Carlton Nikko was simply fantastic. Put a tremendously passionate, dedicated group of people through a world-class Ritz Carlton hospitality training program and you get service that's nothing short of perfection. The hotel grounds are absolutely beautiful, it's facilities (both spa and public onsen) were amazing, and food was thoughtful, delicious, and wholesome. My wife and I could not have asked for more and yearn to be back in the, hopefully, near future.

Good location. Amazing room, lobby. View of the lake.

    Dinner. Just 6menus for kaiseki.

    10IvanPosted on: 11-17-2022

Great location, great views of Chuzenji lake, food was excellent. Breakfast was beautifully prepared and scrumptious, dinner (kaiseki and sushi) were both really good.
