Pros +
- The hotel is very close to the station (about 3 mins walk). Their indoor onsen is nice. I got to the hotel around 19.30 hr from the afternoon bus from Shinjuku, so I was the only one using the onsen that night and it was peaceful. You also get a free ticket to use the outdoor bath at Hirayu no Mori which is a few minutes walk away and this ticket has no expiration date, so you can keep it if you plan to visit Hirayu onsen again in the future. There is a shop selling local souvenirs, food and drink across the street, and there are restaurants nearby. The hotel itself doesn't offer breakfast so you will need to bring your own food to eat at the lobby area or go eat at restaurants in the area.
- The onsen in the hotel was great. The staff was helpful. Our room was amazing, super spacious and with a great view
- Loved our rooms. Large, comfy single beds, en suite toilet. The shared bathroom was an onsen, so that was a plus. Also got free use of main hotel's fab onsen a few minutes down the road. Looked after our bags before we checked in and after we checked out. There was also a room with microwave. It was much much nicer than the photos suggested - which is why I said the photos weren't accurate. They under-promised and over-delivered. Which is the right way around.Really handy for bus station, walk to waterfall and local cafes and restaurants.
Cons -
- That we couldn't stay longer because they were booked out.
- If you have Chinese neighbors, or even worse.. with children... it will be a bit difficult stay if you are sensitive to noise, as the walls are thin, but if you ask the reception they will talk to this family and little by little they will realize that in Japan the rule is to be silent!
- Due to some unfortunately timed circumstances we weren’t able to use the hot springs during our trip. This property does have separate showers, but they’re coin operated (100¥ for 5 minutes). They don’t have any body wash, shampoo or conditioner so I suggest buying some across the street or packing your own if you won’t be able to use the hot spring. There was also a hole in the window screen of our room which let in a lot of cold air during the night. It wasn’t that much of an annoyance, but not ideal.

Room is huge and have a nice layout. Got complimentary ticket to beautiful onsen.
This is the perfect place. The room smells new, is spotlessly clean, and has amenities for your comfort, both in the room and at the reception. I stayed on days with very low temperatures, and the room was a warm and clean refuge. Like all traditional places in Japan, the bathroom is separate from the room area, which increases the feeling of cleanliness. Use the onsen at the hotel itself, and you also get vouchers to use the main Hirayuno Mori, for a price well below the main hotel. A fantastic experience!

The room was very spacious and comfortable. Even though it was snowing the entirety of our stay, the beds were very warm and kept us cozy during the night. The location was also amazing, with a general store across the road and a few fantastic restaurants within short walking distance. The staff were very friendly.

The onsen bath and the beds
Have to get to use to no private bathroom
Everything was great, location, clean, comfortable, and excellent staff, would love to return, bonus points for the washer and dryer in front of reception
Getting tickets to Hirayu no Mori onsen was amazing. The staff was very nice and kindly let us sit in the common area until check in. They also held luggage for us, which I appreciate very much. The onsen itself in the hotel was also very great. The rooms were spacious and comfortable.
Nothing, everything was great.
Great location near Kamikochi. Friendly staff and easy check-in. The room was really big although a bit chilly. The best was definitely the onsen experience: the best I've been, so far. There was one in the annex itself and in the main building.
Really large room for Japanese standards. Toilet and sink, no shower - you use the one at the onsen as per Japanese custom. Very comfortable bed and staff very helpful. You get free tickets to use the large outdoor onsen about 5 mins walk away - what an incredible experience.
Slightly dated but very clean and otherwise authentic.
It's near the station. The in-house hot bath is good n very clean. The public onsen is excellent , about 10 minutes walk from the hotel.. The tickets for the public onsen is a bonus. They allowed us to leave our luggage after check out
Nothing. Will be better if staff can speak English
1) location - very near the bus station heading for Kamikochi 2) staff service - friendly, approachable even though they do not speak English 3) clean
No shower facilities- we are aware of this when booking rooms Property a little worn out
Friendly staffsConveniently of location Clean and well maintained facilities The best is onsen in the hotel
room is very perfect.
no bathroom, only public bathroom. better have shower room for person used not all used to with public bath.
The room was big, and the stay included a ticket to the big onsen nearby. The facility also had an onsen of their own. Convenient location.
The walls of the room were a bit stained, and the lighting of the room was not that cozy, but nothing that would bother too much.
Comfy beds, and free ticket to enjoy the nearby onsen, which has a great outdoor bath.
Very few options as far as convinience stores go, and the ones in the bus station or the nearby ryokan don't seem to restock very often, so take it into account if you plan to get your meals that way.
Hotel is located 2 min walk from the bus stop to Kamikochi, it is very spacious, there are washing machines available, small onsen in the property, plus access to very big onsen 5 minutes away.
Not really a negative, but maybe good to know that the only way to shower is at the public baths (onsen), no shower in the bedroom (only toilet).
Close to station and Kamikochi. Clean and friendly staff
Bath downstairs, communal, not use to it lol
Room was big and the hotel is really close to the station. Plus they give you one free pass to the onsen.
It’s maybe older than other hotels.
