    Cons -

    • Staff wasn?t very friendly, but i don?t really care about that if the room is as nice as it was.
    • Check out time was 10AM, a little bit earlier than normal. Hotel also wouldn't hold our bags day of checkout, unlike other hotels I had in Japan.
    • The breakfast has limited options. It has to be preordered.

It is only a short distance from train station , restaurants, shops and convenience store only a walking distance.

Nice location beside the JR and bus station . There is big super market near it you can walk to.

I didn’t like the staff to be honest , they send me message to register online and to have QR for fast check in and when I arrive to the hotel I tried to tell one of the staff that I have the QR and even showed him my phone so he would understand but NO , he ignored me and tell me to scan my passport. If you not going to take the online registration than why would you waste my time writing and scanning my passports . The staff need to listen to the customer.

Stylish room with panoramic mountain and city views, a beautiful and calming space.

No onsen and limited breakfast options. Small lobby. Luggage storage did not feel secure. For a four star hotel they should have more amenities.

    Good location

Bad smell someone smoking , all floor have bad smell and come inside the room

    6SIRIKWANPosted on: 11-9-2025

Cozy, clean , comfortable , the room is quite big, just 5 mins walk to the city center

Check in areas and morning staff in the cafe is impolite , bad attitude, not friendly at all , treat customers as they came to the hotel for free but we weren’t. They need to be improve their behaviors.

Very nice location, balcony and city view

One of the bedsheets had visible bloodstains. Tatami mats were stinking bad by someone’s feet. Other than that, room was clean. We booked this hotel because of the small kitchen. We like to cook our wagyu so we used our kitchenette. Pan was heavily scratched and dangerous for use. So I went to the reception to kindly ask for a new one. Was told that they don’t change them. When receptionist saw my heavily confused and unhappy face while I left the pan with him and was about to leave without a word to buy one in the shop, he decided to actually help and brought a new one. Solved in a minute but it was uncomfy. What I felt like a bigger issue was that they don’t deal with TA-Q-BIN. During our three weeks in Japan and 8 different hotels, this was the only one which refused to forward our luggage to the next destination via Kuro Neko Yamato. While it was a National Holiday we had to take a taxi to the Yamato office a few km away to send our luggage to Fukuoka ourselves. Killed over one and half hour of our time. Considering the room was over ¥40 000/night, which I do consider a fairly mid level, I did expect a different service.

Bed was very very comfortable and the room was extremely spacious

Despite being at the top floor, we could hear the road and the train (for the first time in Japan!)We didn't get any courtesy water and for a hotel of these standards it was quite strange. The overall vibe was very hipster and it could have been everywhere in the world, e.g London, NY and had nothing to do with Japan Also the automatic light in the toilet is very inconvenient if you use the toilet at night

The hotel’s family room was very well designed.

    1. The male front desk clerk was not personable. 2. Check out time of 10am is too early, practically unheard of in the hotel industry. And when we asked if we could leave our bags at the front desk, we were told we could leave them at our own risk which made us feel uncomfortable and unsafe in your hotel.

    Good location and very clean.

Beds are not comfortable, not enough pillows

Good location just by the train station.

I'm sorry to have to write this: Dirty room (The carpet and sofa showed stains) with poor ventilation and a musty smell. Check-in was very complicated and stressful. Breakfast wasn't worth it. An hotel for one night if you're passing through and have no other options.

    Location in town.

Hotel was very dirty and smelled like mold. Even the sofa was visibly dirty.

    8belitPosted on: 10-7-2025

Very close to the station and all the sights

I was told we can add breakfast at check in and no need to make reservations in advance, but when we checked in the staff said they only have breakfast available for those who booked room with breakfast

The location was close to the bus and train depot. It was also a 5 minute walk from the “old streets”. Overall - it was a comfortable space to come back to and the staff were very helpful.

We had a Japanese style room that offers a balcony. Don’t choose this type if you don’t like sleeping on a futon on the ground or making your own bed. Also, the cross walk sensor starts beeping at about 5am which explains why the hotel offers earplugs.

Great value very close to public transportation / train and bus stations and the Family Mart to buy. This was a great home base for visiting the sites in the area. Safe area and spacious rooms with plenty of beds plus kitchen and living area with couches, chairs and coffee table. Staff was welcoming and helpful.

My stay at FAV LUX Hida Takayama was truly delightful. The location is a major highlight—being so close to both Takayama Train Station and the Nohi Bus Center made it incredibly convenient to explore the area, whether by walking or taking the bus. There’s even a minimart just a 1-minute walk in front of the hotel, which was perfect for grabbing quick essentials. The room itself was a haven of comfort. The bed was comfortable enough for a restful sleep, and despite the proximity to the train station, the room was surprisingly quiet, allowing for peaceful nights. The scenery from the window was absolutely breathtaking, offering stunning views that made every morning special. Another bonus was the easy access to the charming Old Street, which was just a short walk away, letting us soak in the historic beauty of Takayama at our leisure.Overall, I highly recommend FAV LUX Hida Takayama for its unbeatable location, comfortable accommodations, and beautiful surroundings. It’s a fantastic choice for anyone visiting Takayama, and I would definitely stay here again!

While the staff were helpful and kind in their actions, I did notice they could be a bit reserved and less smiley, which might come across as less friendly at first. However, this did not detract from their willingness to assist, and I believe a warmer demeanor could make the experience even more exceptional.

Good location, very near the station and tourist areas, quiet

This was the only time we've been disappointed by a hotel in Japan. While there were no really serious flaws, there were a lot of little annoyances that you don't expect in a country with such superb service standards:The people cleaning the room repeatedly took the plastic bags out of the trashcans and then just left them sitting on the floor inside the room rather than taking the bags with them. There were large stains on the couch in our room and on the carpet in the main hallway. There was trash and debris at the main entrance to the hotel. The sink drain had no cover. Annoying for contact lens wearers. The light switches did not indicate which of six different lights each switch controlled and there was a long delay between when you pushed the switch and the lights turned on or off, so it was a chore figuring out how to match the switches with the lights. The light in the toilet area came on automatically and very brightly, and couldn't be shut off under any circumstances. So any trip to the toilet after lights out nearly blinded the person doing their business and could also awaken anyone else trying to sleep, because that bright light also shined into the entire room before the door can be shut. The front desk staff, unlike any other we've seen in Japan, had their heads buried in their cel phones and generally ignored people walking through the lobby, waiting in line, etc., unless you made a concerted effort to catch their attention. In short, this would be an average hotel in North American, Western Europe, etc., but was well below Japanese standards. Especially given that the rates were still much higher than comparable hotels in Tokyo, despite being in shoulder season.
