Pros +
- I love the convenience of the location of the hotel. It is about 12 minutes from the train station. It a short walk to most of things to see in the town. There is a city bus stop on the same block. The staff is great and friendly. The hotel is very quite, never heard noises. The room is more than I expected and the beds were awesome.
- We like the guest hall where its warm and there is a charming kitchen well equipped with pantry and long table for a family to gather and have a quiet and comfortable meal together. The charming red bridge of Takayama and Takayama old town is just a 5 min walk away from the hotel. All very very close nearby.
- The name of the place is written in very small letters; if one comes at night, it won't be easy to recognize it.
Cons -
- Room can be a bit small and compact. But we do like the way the layout is designed and minimalistic and modern.
- We were on the 3rd floor and there was no elevator
- The room design was claustrophobic with low windows to knee height and then walled to the ceiling. Our neighbour left their outdoor light on all night and it shined directly into our eyes as the beds were low/aligned with the windows. We had all of our luggage stacked up to block out the light. Maybe the outdoor lights could be put on a timer?

Cup of Tea is a lovely, interesting little inn. We stayed in a 4 bed room, which was well laid out, comfortable and surprisingly spacious. The warm wood tones and paper screens were a nice detail. Fun common spaces, good for meeting fellow travelers.
The beds were designed to use the space well. Great location within walking distance to everything Takayama has to offer. The staff were great and loved a chat!

The location is in a very good central area, just minutes away from the morning market and the town area. It will be ideal if you are traveling outside the whole day and only returning for a good rest at the hotel.
Since the shops at takayama closes quite early, we have to hang out in the hotel room which has a major space constraint, and we ended up not having a good rest. There is no extra space to sit around so we have to sit up on the lower deck of the “bunk beds”. My husband had to slouch his back as he is quite tall, he ended up just lying down the whole time. The windows (part of their aesthetic) also do not come with a curtain, so it was really bright at 630am onwards, as the window is right in front of the bed. Definitely not for people who want to sleep in.There is also no luggage space to open up 2 luggages at one go though the room accommodates 4. Not for travelers who is traveling with heavy baggage, as there is no lift as well, thankful we are at the second level. The kettle and microwave in the common area is also not well maintained. So we ended up not having hot water for coffee/teaThere were a lot of dust in the room as well, when we had to open our luggages on the floor we discover bouts of hair under the bed that was left perhaps by the previous guests.
This is a great place - a super-stylish hotel, but with hostel-type facilities - a beautiful shared lounge with cooking facilities. The rooms are small but full of light and well thought-out and the futons are incredibly comfortable. Great location and they even provide baskets of toiletries to take to the nearby sento.
Strange architecture (windows at feet level - not possible to watch outside). Spartiate bathroom. No staff on site.
Spacious and comfortable room. Lovely interior design throughout. Great communal space. Good for families.
Great location. Spacious sitting area and kitchen where we can prepare some light food.
A bigger room would be better.
Not recommended and so expensive for a rate. Not a hotel its more like AIRBNB
Aircon Heater cant fill the whole room. The bed below was so cold we didnt slept well. No toothbrush and toothpaste. Even the towel no face towel nor feet towel on the comfort room. The hallway stairs was so dark. Dangerous to walk the stairs. The wifi is not good also. Its good for 2 not for 4, we cant move because it was so small. I thought it is hotel but it is not. 1 thing we like is just so near the tourist spots and restaurants
It was a modern well maintained hotel. Great beds with good duvets. Location was fantastic close to a lovely bakery.
It was very unpersonal. We would have like to do the check-in in person and get some information about the city but everything is online.
The location was excellent. So close to the old town and the markets. Communication of the hosts was great. The beds were very comfortable for us. The toilet and bathroom were more than adequate.
No elevator but that is common in Japan. There were no shelves or even small tables to put our things on. Just hangers and beds. I understand that this place had a minimalist concept and I appreciate it but we would have appreciated more functional furniture. Even just bare and minimalist ones. We basically had to put our things either on the beds or the floor. A tiny coffee table and chair would have been nice and a stool to help when putting on our shoes. I would still recommend this place.
Location was very good, easy walking distance to both the rail station and the sights. Charming accomodation, spotless, contemporary. The town was delightful
The beds location on a platform were not easy to access for older guests
Small space but well arranged plus the large common living space
No lift for the luggage and one of the room was above a noisy machine
It had a wonderful clean minimalist style. The interior designer definitely was talented. Perfect for small groups/family. The very big lounge in the entrance was also very nice and had a fully functional kitchen. Later I was told that they have some "nomikai" or Movie nights there as well! (highly recommended)The owner was extremely friendly and could speak English. We also had 4 big and heavy suitcases which perfectly fit underneath the sleeping area!
There is not much to complain. The "floor" in the room itself was rather narrow, but this is not really a problem. The hotel is about 15min walking distance to the train station. (Or 5 min with a taxi!)No Elevator so bringing our heavy suitcases up and down was a bit difficult, but I still would choose this hotel again!
Really cute hotel. Common area was nice and having a place to cook was great! Walking distance to historical street. Overall great hotel!
Shower was a bit tiny. Staff was not really on the premise- they just left the keys for check in
great location, great staff, beautiful decoration, comfy
It was the most comfortable bed so far out of my whole trip in japan. The staff were so lovely and the feel for the place is just so cosy and inviting. Everything we wanted to see (and eat) was all within in walking distance. There is also a cute little cafe right next door!
You can hear the people in the room next door walking around. And if you want an early night but the next room has the balcony light on there is no way to block it out
A nice basic place to stay in Takayama. Good minimalistic design
