Pros +
- This resort is secluded and has its own charm. It becomes a cozy comfortable home away from everything else. It is mainly connected from the sea - guests check in and out from the sea! The common area is wonderful and gives a community feeling all through the day where you get to see all other guests in close proximity. Most common facilities are there - restaurant, bar, free coffee and tea facilities (24 hrs.), toilets, deck, access to the beach, sea sports desk and the reception. Everything's there. Besides the common area are only rooms not more than 50 meters away. So, overall the close world charm of this resort cut off from the rest of the world gave us a unique experience. Then the Tioman sea water - turquoise green and clear, beach calm and the water inviting. Sun beds and a swing on the beach which is covered by this huge tree which gives it ample shade. A volley ball court. The staff are very friendly and courteous. They add to the charm of the resort. They are always around, always smiling and always ready to serve. When you arrive at the hotel in the resort's boat (they pick you up from the nearest jetty which is Genting), the staff is there to welcome you at the beach. When you check out, they are waving you goodbye till you can no longer see them! This enables you to have a special bonding with the staff there even if you stay for just 2 nights. They offer sea sports activities like kayaking, island hopping, snorkeling, etc. which we did not avail. We drove down from KL. Takes 5 hours to reach Tanjung Gemok jetty. Then we wait for 1 hour at the jetty to take the ferry takes 2 hours to reach Tioman. At Tioman there are various stops and you have to get down at Genting jetty, where you board yet another boat provided by the resort to finally reach the resort. Total time - approximately 8.5 hours! Same thing while going back. But, Tioman Island is worth it because of the quality of the beaches and the lovely sea water. It is quite heavenly.
- The staff were all really friendly and attentive! I missed out the message on having a ferry service for Genting to the resort but they called and checked in with me. Location is secluded and good for anyone wanting to disconnect.
- The beach was nice, easy to snorkel right out the front. The staff was friendly and helpful, but we had to manage our own Scuba booking. This resort had a higher price point and I would have expected an easy way to directly contact and interact with Dive Operators at Genting. We ended up talking to a grocery store owner to find a Scuba operator. The Beach Bungalow was nice, bathroom was good, bed was comfortable and AC worked well.
Cons -
- We were in room named Macaque. It had a queen bed and 2 bunk beds, good enough for our family of 4. But this room doesn't face the sea! We noticed there are other rooms which face the sea and can have a lovely view. So, please ensure that you check with the hotel if you want a sea facing room. The bathroom heater was not very efficient, so hot water wasn't adequate. No handwash provided at the basin. There were no chairs provided on the balcony. The housekeeping was very basic. They just clean the bathroom and mop the room. We saw soiled glasses were not cleared. Towels were left as it is. Beds were not cleaned - we were hoping that the little bit of sand which comes along on the bed would be brushed off by them. Food available at the restaurant is very average. Right from the breakfast, the choice is so limited. Breakfast looks the same everyday. Looking at the menu you just wonder what to have for the next meal. Since the price of food is costly and limited choice, one would have hoped that it would be tasty. So, the weak point of this resort = food. WiFi only available at common area. In the room, cellular signal and the WiFi signal is weak. So, very scratchy internet available in the room. For one of the lunches, we walked through the back lane (through the hills and forests) to Genting village and had a meal at a place called Mamma's Food House - a must try. Very nice food. It is a 25 minutes walk from the resort to this lovely small restaurant.
- The food was overpriced, and you are getting store bought quality pizza. You could get better pizza for lesser price in paya. Air con was working sporadically until we were able to figure out how to get it to work, and I was woken up by another group when they were stomping on the wooden planks. Wifi was spotty at best and wasn't working half the time.
- I have no problems with the remote aspect of the location, bungalow and no issues with wildlife and insect life. I grew up spending my summers in a cabin in the woods with lots of ants, bats, wasps and other bugs, but the food options were poor. I understand it was the end of the season but if you aren't going to restock goods for the kitchen then close up shop earlier in the season, lower your pricing or ensure you have enough goods to supply meals that are on the menu. The nearest restaurants are a hike so it makes it difficult to food shop. I would also have liked to know ahead of time that the water taxi landing was a wet one. I could have properly ensured I had water shoes (not leather) sandals on arrival.

Small and cozy place nestled away in nature.
Limited food options
Private Beach . Away from the crowds
The room which there are a lots of ants ? and no bath tub.
The position
Unfortunately, a very unpleasant and unexpected situation occurred at this location. In spite of the fact that we had postponed our booking to the following week via booking.com, within the terms of the policy, the resort on our arrival denied having received any notification from booking.com of the cancellation of the first booking. For this reason, even before evidence provided immediately, the resort refused to cooperate, unjustifiably charging us the cost of both the previous booking and the new booking. What was most surprising was the absence of any cooperation on the part of the resort towards its customers. In addition, the accommodation appeared unclean. While we were having dinner, a cat came out of the kitchen with a mouse in its mouth. The room had many insects and spiders in it. The property is poorly connected and in the evenings it is virtually impossible to move around, so guests are obliged to stay for dinner at the hotel, where prices are completely unreasonable compared to the rest of Malaysia. About 30 metres from the hotel, on the beach and among the trees on the beach there is basically an open-air dump, where the resort throws away its waste. I have seldom left negative reviews about a resort, but in this case I hope it will help prevent other customers from paying certain prices for a service that is not up to standard.
The location is perfect for relaxation. Completely secluded and basic comfortable huts surrounded by lush jungle.
Please do not use the blower to clear leaves. Better to just sweep for complete peacefulness
Rustic Kampung feel, great service and hospitality, private beach, decent off shore snorkelling.
Ants got into the room and was crawling on the bunk beds, making itt unusable. Chalets away from the beach not desirable. Get the seafacing ones.
Quiet and full of nature!
If they serve more vegetables for breakfast, their meals are very good.
Melina was a break away from reality. The chalet was basic but functional. The beach was on the doorstep and staff were friendly and welcoming. Lots of wildlife... Cheeky monkeys, lizards and the world's largest squirrel!Great to walk through the jungle to Paya and have a choice of restaurants and diving/snorkelling. We booked a trip for a full day with a company in Paya and saw sharks... Lots of small reef sharks and one very big reef shark! We saw swordfish, flying fish and a stingray not to mention the highlight of the trip was the turtle. Coral island was the best for snorkelling. Clear turquoise waters and white sand! The guide was so helpful and helped us to spot the turtle. This was 100 rm. We felt this was much better value than the hotels half day trip.
It was slightly difficult to get to the reef from the beach because of the rocks. The rocks are very slippery so beware and don't climb as my husband did and fell. I realise that can't be changed-it's nature. The food was good but repetitive after 5 nights. We'd have loved a chalet over looking the beach and perhaps that was our mistake when we booked.
The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming - always a kind word, a smile on the face, and professional through and through. The whole Melina team truly sees it as their task to ' take care of their guests' (from small daily tasks to helping a guest out that cut his foot badly on coral and needed to be brought to a doctor in the dark by boat and through the jungle). The location is excellent for those that want to experience nature, beach and stay away from the crowds. Our 2 children teamed up with the many other kids and played happily and independently in the hotels private bay and we loved seeing the monkeys, giant squirls and beautiful fish right out front.
Seeing the harsh reality of people working at the resort (shifts of 15 hours, 7 days a week, months in a row, on low salaries) - which will be the same at all other places, so no Melina-specific problem. They deserve nothing but praise and generous tips.Melina organizes nice snorkeling trips. If you want to go diving you have to go to Genting or Psya, which involve a 20-30 hike through the jungle (on a path) before or done kind of arrangement with a boat taxi to pick you up. Food at Melina is good, but pricey.
Beautiful spot. Amazing snorkelling. Friendly staff.
We loved everything, the room, the staff, the beach, the food. It's heaven on Earth.
The rooms were very clean and equipped. The service provided by the staff was five star! The went above and beyond at all times. Special mention to J who worked alongside the restaurant staff. This is the perfect "get away holiday" relax and recharge. Also perfect for family.
Nothing to say at all!
The food especially breakfast was nice and tasty. Staff very attentive and friendly.
I have to take another boat to reach Melina. I was travelling with elderly so iı was a bit inconvinient.
Beautiful location. Very comfortable rooms. Peaceful and relaxing resort. Good food. Friendly, helpful staff.
Same lunch and dinner menu.Poor lighting in rooms.
Great location, peaceful, green. Comfortable accommodation.Nice layout. Simple but effective common areas.Breakfast is nice, lunch ad dinner menu is the same, so after 3 days can get a bit limited, it would be nice if there was a lunch menu with some lighter meals on it, then a different menu for dinner.Nice private beach
Could you move all the rocks a couple of feet to the right? (Only joking!)Lunch and Dinner menu is the same - would be nice to have a lighter option for lunchNo Spa. Both Booking.com and the website both mention the spa. Turns out the spa shut down. Disappointing as I deliberately chose a spa resort for this trip. If I had known, I would have gone elsewhere. Sorry.
I like the quietness, comfort, privacy and excellent meals by Hakim. Jay and Rose is friendly and makes us feel at home with their excellent service.
My corner room is a little noisy but after 10 pm is quiet
Beach privacy quite view scene people . Its like live in a poster . Amazing place .
Far from everything. You are the only on this part if beach. The only way to access to the nearest shop or anytg is by taking a bike (dangerous route). Or walk 30mins
Secluded private beach, peace and quiet. Friendly resort staff and management. Freeflow hot water, tea and coffee. Nice sandy beach, shallow clear waters though a bit rocky. There are western and Malaysian menu options at the resort's only restaurant - a bit limited in option but for two night's stay it works for us.
