The Bivou Lijiang Hotel

We were right in the heart of Shu He old village, but yet, the rooms were very quiet. Staff were warm

- Brilliant location! (because the car is not allowed in the Shuhe Ancient Town, the hotel is no more than 2 minutes away by foot from the town gate)- Sufficient choices of breakfast- Most staff are friendly and very helpful- The hotel's lunch/dinner menus are delicious too!- Great value for the price- Detailed and helpful response to all questions

- A few staff cannot communicate in English well but that's quite normal for China- Found a tiny cockroach in the wardrobe but considering the hotel atmosphere which is in the garden and farm, we barely found insects in our room

The property was very clean and well managed. Love the cozy and well curated aesthetics. The service staff is kind and friendly and very helpful in finding my way through the old town. A perfect stay for anyone who likes to escape the bustling city into a quiet retreat.Kudos to Mei for being so friendly and hospitable. Will definitely return for their food.

I think the breakfast is quite plain with limited variety of dishes.

The staff is very personable, and most of them speak English reasonably well. The owner/manager is Singaporean and speaks excellent English, naturally. Location is down an alley with views of the vegetable garden. The pet goat comes in occasionally for peanuts.

The ambience and the rustic environment is such a big draw. We were pleasantly surprised that the hotel had upgraded us to a suite which was located on the second floor of the property. The room was lovely! The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is also very convenient located within Shuhe ancient city. They have their own farm and even a lovely resident cat. ? love this place.

Attentive and warm service before, during and after our stay. Property was beautiful, tranquil and clean. Our stay was made even better by the lovely staff who made us feel at home. We were regulars at the restaurant and enjoyed the pastas a lot. Very happy we made new friends, highly recommended!

A perfect place for a 3 Nights stay. The accommodation is inside Shuhe Ancient City. Another plus point to stay here. The owner Ms. Hwee Ling, her staff, Ms. May, Mrs. May, Ms. Layla and a few others are very friendly. The staff spoke English though not fluent but it's great! Communication via wechat is so convenient. They also arranged for us to be picked up from the train station. The place is surrounded with greeneries and self planted herbs etc. They had a farm too. The room is superb, equipped with a working air-conditioner and a full set of  toiletries. Tea, coffee and bottled water are provided daily. The bed is so comfortable especially after you had a full walking day trip. Both indoor and outdoor slippers are provided too. Any issues we had were rectified immediately! They also assist us to arrange for a car (w driver) to get us to the places that we want to visit. They also suggested that we take a car to Shangri-La (dropping by Tiger leaping Gorge & Little Zhongdian) instead of taking a train from Lijiang. It's very helpful because we didn't know. They even packed us breakfast on our departure since we checked out very early. The only thing I would like to suggest is to install a bidet for the toilet. Everything else is great and wonderful!!! Would I come again? It's a definite YES! Thank you for the memorable experience!

Not really sure where to start. One of the nicest B&B style hotels I’ve stayed anywhere in the world. Staff go above and beyond everyday and the ambience of the place is so relaxing it’s hard to stay standing. It’s just off the Main Street in the quieter of the “old towns” Shuhe, but it’s so quiet you wouldn’t even know it’s there. Beautiful surrounds and convenient to literally everywhere. Literally, just stay here: way more personal than any of the bigger hotels in the area I’m sure.

Breakfast was great, a buffet daily with a daily hot item made to order.

Property was well appointed, an oasis conveniently located in the busy Shuhe old town. Our travel itinerary was also curated by the hotel and we had a seamless experience. The quick laundry service was also a plus. Kudos to all staff who were also very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

We just really loved the Bivou. I read very good reviews, but still the place exceeded my expecations. If I am ever going to write my memoires, I will do it here:) This place just breaths tranquility. We loved the little vegetable gardens in front of the hotel, the staff was extremely helpful and the area around the hotel is really lovely. I travelled the whole world and Le Bivou definitely makes it to my worldwide top 5.

The place was hospitable from the start. Their original walking map of Lijiang Old Town was fantastic. It took me through wonderful spots, many away from the thronging tourist crowd. The floor heating and bed heating were unexpected. These would serve very well during the cold seasons. And, if you are into wines and local produce, they serve some delicious local wines, cheeses and ham. Went as a solo traveler, but never felt alone there.

Cosy, welcoming ambience. Great food. Friendly, helpful staff. Delightful owner who took the time and trouble to meet up with us and even packed up a couple of packets of delicious peanuts to take with us on our train journey to Kunming. Loved the location - it was near the ancient town of Shuhe and a pretty park area where we spent a great couple of hours.

The hospitality and care for the wellness of their guests go beyond expectations and anything I have ever experienced in a hotel. From the first moment of walking through the doors and being greeted by May and HeiMi (the cat), I felt the warmness of stepping foot into Bivou-instantly, I was at a place that felt like home. Right when we stepped through the threshold, we were offered homemade bread (that I could still taste even now) and some delicious apple tea. The ayis (aunties) helped move our heavy luggage into the beautiful room, and spent time introducing the activities in the hotel, activities we could do around Lijiang, and different hikes that we could go on. Our room was so COMFORTABLE - high ceilings, spacious bathroom with a rain shower, clean and woodsy interior, and firm beds with warming mats. The welcome package included lotion, lip balm, and the most comprehensive maps of Lijiang, as well as a binder filled with activities to do. The activities weren't your typical "tourist" activities but they were incredibly curated, local gems like biking to Baishi village and going to see the Naxi orchestra (Nomi helped booked for us! Thank you!). The owner of Bivou is so fun and helpful - she gave us a map for Tiger Leaping Gorge and even helped us arrange a hotel on the trail! For a lot of my stay in Lijiang, I was sick (some food poisoning), but the ayis, especially May, kept me alive - not even exaggerating. They went out of their way to cook porridge for me, recommended and brewed red tea for my stomach ache, delivered homemade soup and dumplings up to the room, and changed the bed sheets at midnight for us. The Bivou cafe was the ONLY place I trusted to eat at because I wasn't feeling well. The food is so healthy, fresh, homecooked with love, and absolutely healing. Bivou is not your typical boutique hotel, not the Banyan, nor the Four Seasons.
