    • Location was pretty good. It's close to the beach.
    • The room was large, clean and the bed was supremely comfortable. The pool was sparkling and was a perfect temperature. Everyone was very friendly.
    • Great location between Liberia & Fortuna. Beautiful grounds with abundant wildlife. Spacious rooms w/private patios. Delicious food. Friendly & helpful staff!

    Cons -

    • First room was filthy and they had to move us because apparently the maids never came. The second room had a broken air conditioner. It was 100 degrees outside. Terrible stay.
    • We ate there a couple of times with mixed results. The Aztec soup was delicious, the hamburger was atrocious.

My third time there. Very comfortable rooms. Spotlessly clean, love the tame animals who live freely at the property. Deer and agoutis wander about with no fear.. This is not a zoo, just a safe place. Restaurant is quite good. Some reviewers say overpriced but we did not think so. Huge menu. I didn't arrange trips though management this time but have in the past and was very happy. I'll be back again.

Not the Hacienda's fault, but road is getting busier. In the 100 habitaciones, there is some road noise. None elsewhere.

Very nice staff, great breakfast and beautiful hotel on the way to La Fortuna from LIR when we didn’t want to drive in the dark.

This hotel is a surprising find right off the main north/south highway in Costa Rica. The grounds are vast and well-manicured. There is a beautiful pool and the rooms are very comfortable and large. Patios adjoining the rooms have rocking chairs with a view of the grounds. The evening meal and breakfast were great. Next door, within walking distance, is a private wildlife rescue center, where, for a reasonable ticket price, you can wander around large cages containing monkeys, tropical birds, pumas, turtles and other animals. Each animal and bird has been given a name and there is a brief description about under what circumstances it was rescued.

The location, friendly staff, and restaurant on property were all very good. If you’re visiting Palo Verde it’s the perfect location to stay.

    8SusanPosted on: 9-15-2025

Loved loved loved that it was hidden among dense trees, offering a cool reprieve for us humans and many animals from usual Guanacaste heat. True Costa Rica setting. Wildlife was prevalent. Also such history at this lodge. Ah-Fabulous pool too! Would make a perfect stay for those arriving at Liberia Airport, prior to heading to Palo Verde, Monteverde, or La Fortuna.

For us the location was perfect. But it isn’t in a location most people seek as a destination. ( Excellent for a Palo Verde visit or any stay “away” from the barren airport area. )

It was a quick stop. Seeing deers was pretty cool. The restaurant was good and the staff was nice.

great place to land for a night before heading up into the mountains after landing in Liberia.

without a car, our casita was a long walk from the main lodge with restaurant, which is a long ways in a downpour. Glad to borrow big umbrellas from the lobby.

Older, very well maintained converted private facility that was probably better off before the 4 lane highway went in. Very nice open air restaurant that was uncomfortable during high humidity days. Air conditioned part of the restaurant was reserved for a private party during our stay.

interior roads could have been better maintained , lighted and signed for directions. Highway noise was unfortunate.

The location was perfect as we flew into Liberia late in the afternoon and we didn't want to drive in the dark to our destination of La Fortuna. The setting was remarkably beautiful and a great introduction to the jungles of Costa Rica! The food at the restaurant was excellent as well!

The location could be considered remote but with a car that is not a problem and indeed suited us best as it was very peaceful. The Cabin was ideal, the food was good, the staff very pleasant and they have a lovely pool

    I cant really fault anything

The best thing about this property was the ability to see a lot of animals while walking the grounds. The on-site restaurant was also very convenient since this hotel is off the main freeway, and not really close to anything else.

The location was right off the main freeway, and although it put us in a good position to drive to the airport the next morning, I don’t know that I would stay here again because of that fact.

    7ChenierPosted on: 3-23-2025

    It was lovely

The staff was a bit arrogant and expected a big tip on top of their included 10 percent already perceived on the bill - they gave a lousy service if not given more

Beautiful property, nice and big rooms, private, great food at the restaurant. A/C in the rooms worked well. Twin beds were comfortable.

No shampoo, big gaps in doors and windows. Surprisingly not many bugs in rooms though. The king bed was hard as a rock we opted to sleep in the 2 twin beds instead.

    8JaysonPosted on: 2-23-2025

It was a great place a short drive from the Liberia airport. It was quiet, had wildlife in the property, room was unique and comfortable. Restaurant was excellent.

    8MeaghanPosted on: 2-17-2025

The immersion in nature was beautiful. Everything was very clean and the animals were an added bonus and surprise.

The room deodorizer was too strong.

We liked our large suite, but our traveling companions didn't think their room was super nice. We loved the birding opportunities right on the property. We loved the food at the restaurant. I swam in the pool and it was nice.

The noise from the highway was loud. The ladies at the reception were very nice and kind, but we came to CR for birding and they didn't know too much about bird-watching. It's such a popular and growing past time, it would. be good if the hotel had a list of guides or activities about birding.Show this to the gentleman from Florida on the staff. Here is a short list of SEO terms: bird, birding, bird-watching, costa rica, costarica, costa rico, quetzal, trogon, flycatcher, is Costa Rica safe, tour, guide, birding trip, sanctuary, nature, wildlife, parking, free, national park, nature park, birding hotspot

    10RandallPosted on: 1-9-2025

The meals were great. The staff was helpful with answering questions about local animals and attractions.

The road noise was noticeable. The rooms away from the road may have been quieter.
