About
Located in the heart of Gisborne's shopping precinct, the Emerald Hotel features 50 spacious rooms, free wifi, a swimming pool, undercover carparking and a fitness center (currently being renovated). All rooms are air-conditioned, have tea/coffee making facilities, hair-dryers, ironing facilities and some have microwaves. Many rooms also feature private balconies. The two-bedroom apartment on the fourth floor has a full kitchen, a washing machine, a smart TV and a balcony with sweeping views of the city's waterways. An accommodations-only hotel, the Emerald is in walking distance of at least 30 cafes and restaurants offering delicacies to tempt all tastes. Guests can enjoy easy access to the waterfront walkway that leads to Tairawhiti's new Kiwa Pools complex. Just across the bridge is Titirangi (Kaiti Hill). Hundred of locals walk the path to the summit daily. It is worth the effort to enjoy the spectacular views of the city and bay across to Young Nick's Head. Couples particularly like the location of the Emerald Hotel. They rated it 8.7 for a two-person trip.

Cons -
- There was nothing we didn’t like - the staff, the room, it was spacious, clean and we had everything we needed
- Only little negative thing would be the birds
- However it was not well cleaned before I arrived. There was dirty like chocolate all over the tv remotes and air con remote. Also the bench that microwave was on was dirty and also the bathroom floor was dirty.

Room was huge with a bed in main area aswell as a separate bedroom with another bed. Location was excellent close to everything. Balcony was big and spacious overlooking the river.
No PowerPoint in the bathroom, broken hair dryer. Hotel needs modernising as it is a bit out dated.Pool needs renovating. No restaurant/food options which would make the stay better although lots of cafes close by.
Location and the pool
Outdated. Fans needed maintenance or get new ones.
As you walk in the room I liked the mirror sliding wardrobe you want to flash for your day so a nice peek in the mirror makes you feel good. I loved how there was a travel bag bench i havnt seen that at many motels/hotels.Condiments im a huge cup of tea person if I could drink tea all day I would.Comfortable bed, I loved the aircon it helped me sleep better.Loved the bath was very much wanted.I loved how big the room was.. and the openness of the hotel to accessibility to the front main entrance, the pool and in town as I had no car due to flight I had to walk everywhere close to the shops! and beautiful view of the river.
There was no shower i had plans so time was to be managed and if I needed to wash fast shower would've been better. No windows in the room I felt like I was suffocating. When I checked out which was very early 7.30am I didnt know where to put the 2 cards so I just put them on the front service desk.
Location centre town was good .Room reasonable size comfortable.Bathroom needs a touch up marked rough walls .
Car park shocking.. no room very tight .Reception on arrival no one there. People were waiting.
Location to the city. Secure car park. Very friendly staff.
The room was far too big. My voice echoed and hard to cool the room down. The bathroom was unclean with black marks all over the celling. The bed is 2 single beds pushed together and woke up between the two beds. No milk offered on arrival and long maze to find reception. Lighting very dim in the room
Hotel was in a great location, lots of places to eat within walking distance and nice outlook over the river. Complimentary car park was a bonus. Pool was dirty and under maintenance which I suppose is to be expected during the winter months. Pigeons were making a mess and not bothered at all by the owl deterrant.
Asked for a non smoking room and the room didn't smell but there were butts and an ashtray on the table on the deck.
Great location, big rooms, nice and tidy. Staff friendly and helpful - the drain in the bathroom sink leaked and it was fixed very quickly for us.
Very Spacious, Comfy Beds. Smelt very nice
There's no sink to wash dishes. The shower has a very strong pressure
The pool and car park access
No toaster in the room. Tired decore
The location was adequate.
Where do I start. I stayed at this property many years ago, and to say it has seen some hard times is an understatement. I saw one review say ‘if Temu had bought a hotel’. The air con was noisy. The bathroom fan had an incessant whirl which did not stop. There was only one pillow for each person, and those pillows were as this as card. There was an annoying blue light flashing every few seconds in the room. There was an odd odour to the place. The shelf in the fridge was broken. The ‘art’ was a4 printing from a printer.
The balcony and aircon and location
The room didn’t have a spa
Location was great and the rooms were a decent size
Upon arrival we had to request our bathroom be cleaned as unfortunately this hadn't been done. One of the beds out of the two was very hard.
the entire service from staf, room, my moko's loved the pool, staff were very friendly, attentive and respectful. I loved the fact you have rangatahi working for you and maori locals. They were helpful in recommending places to eat, coffee and local swimming holes. We felt like we were home.
Parking - we had one night christmas eve, day, where all the parking free parking spaces were full, and a couple of paid spaces were left. We parked there for a few hours, received a not friendly note from the paid owner. we knew that was a paid space, we thought we might be okay for a few hours checking until a free space was free. The only negative.
Good location, comfy bed and decent water pressure despite it being a nightmare climbing in and out of the large high sided bath to access the shower.
In need of a revamp and modernisation:1)no phone in the room to contact reception, 2)no bedside lights so had to use torch on phone to walk to the bed from turning the lights off, 3)only had sky sports and no movie channels which would have been nice as not everybody likes sports, 4)intermittent WiFi as kept disconnecting.
Great staff spacious rooms everything we needed at hand. Central to town, great view
There was some house keeping missed in the bathroom. Mud in the bath (r&v) visitors im guessing. Stains on bedding was also questionable. Fridge wasn't at correct temperature. It didn't chill at all.
Great place to stay overnight. Booked during RnV festival time and didn’t realise as I travelled for different reasons, there were no issues with noise & I found the staff very friendly and helpful.
The location. Our room was very spacious and quiet. The air-conditioning was also very good. I also liked looking out on the river.
The drapes and nets need to be repaired. I didn't like that there wasn't a table and chairs in our room. We only had 1 chair and an uncomfortabl sofa to sit on. The bed was very hard. The bathroom wasn't very clean. I It was Extremely expensive for the quality of room.
