Northpark Motel

The location is ok not far from the main road.

During our stay there was a lorry parked opposite our room and when we open the windows the smell of the lorry carrying animals invade our room. We taught the lorry park there for a while but it parked overnight. So we don't have a choice and close the window and don't get to enjoy the fresh air during our stay.

The location was excellent, as we were attending an all day event hosted quite nearby. The motel being well set back from the main highway is a bonus - removed from the noise of heavy traffic. The windows being double glazed is excellent too, for cutting down external noise, and retaining the warmth in the room overnight. No condensation to deal with next morning!

It is just unfortunate that one has to run the hot tap for several minutes to draw the hot water through the pipes. Once it does arrive, all is well. It just seems to be a significant waste of valuable water. We did talk with the manager of the motel about this issue, and they have apparently had it investigated more than once. They even showed us where the large hot water cylinders are located.

An excellent place to stay. Staff was incredibly friendly and supportive. We had everything we needed to have a comfortable stay. The room and the bathroom were very clean and tidy. Great location. Will definitely book this place again.

It was quite a long way from central Timaru, much too far to walk. Fortunately there was a restaurant directly under the hotel and a convenience shop onsite as well so easy access to food. I really liked the bathroom, it was modern and clean,the beds were comfortable but the room didn't ventilate well so it was a bit stuffy. The lift was a bit unusual. It was accessed via a what looked like a cupboard so was hard to find initially. It was unlike most lifts in that it was essentially not a separate compartment but a platform that rose up and down when the buttons were pushed. I'm sure it was quite safe but I was a little disconcerted. The parking area was also used by the pub onsite so didn't feel that secure.

The premises felt like they needed a little more cleaning and maintenance. Also ate at the restaurant, would definitely not recommend. Were handed the dirtiest dog eared menus which didn’t bode well for a start. Ordered a hamburger that was the soggiest I have ever seen, not quite inedible - perhaps when adding coleslaw make sure it isn’t 80% liquid. Staff at restaurant very nice and meal sizes were generous, if not particularly enjoyable. Not the best value for money.

Basic, but suited my needs - couldn't get either bed lamp to work. This seems to be a typical failing that everything is not necessarily checked between guests

Loved everything about it

The people in the room next door to us on the phone all night shouting and having music playing. I had to get up and tell them to keep it down due to them keeping my son awake.

This motel has exceeded my expectations. The room was big, clean and had a comfortable bed. There was an assortment of teas, hot chocolate and coffee and the kitchenette had enough utensils and plates. The bathroom had travel size toiletries and was quite spacious. Overall very satisfied with this double room considering the price.

The wall lingings in the bathroom could with being refreshed. Air con would be a bonus rather than a ceiling fan, a bigger tv and a smart tv would be good and a couch rather than a tub chair would have been good

Felt like our room was next to emergency housing. We left the next morning. Could hear music all through the night from next door and kids playing in the corridor in the early hours of the morning. So difficult trying to sleep. And didn’t have a park close to room for vehicle so long way to move bags upstairs.

Nice and clean, staff your great as we weren’t getting there until they had closed for the night but that wasn’t a bother, key in room, curtains closed and heater on for us.

Didnt rate the Ascot Eastery. Obviously run by different management and their service and ability to serve food within a 2 hour window was appalling. No reflection on accommodation however just a shame.
