Cons -
- Like many NZ Motels, this one getting a little tired and needing investment, which I understand may be uneconomical, but the price reflected this.
- the building has obviously been changed around and renovated- but not well, so room configuration was weird. bathroom was small and water pressure not great.
- Tiny space for washbasin and loo.

Nice property, not too far from town centre.
Tiny space for washbasin and loo.
The lady On reception Greeted me with a lovely smile and said welcome. The Anchor Motel was well situated and easy to find , parking was easy checkin was easy and my apartment was quite spacious and immaculately clean . I only stayed 1 night and my bed was so comfortable I slept like a log . The Anchor Motel was nice and quiet and Great value for money, when your welcomed and Greeted with a smile I think it makes so much difference. There was a nice restaurant just along the road and a delicious bakery just opposite the Motel for my breakfast pastry. Many thanks.
I only stayed 1 night .
It was a well priced motel on the main road within easy reach of the airport, so it served its purpose for me (an overnight stay before a morning flight) and what I expected for the money. It was clean, with a comfortable bed, a welcoming reception and other furnishings / kitchen equipment.
There was a bit of noise, both from the road and other people and the decoration etc was rather 'tired'. Personally, I would not have wanted to spend a holiday there, but it would probably be ok for someone on a tight budget and was within easy reach of the sea, the penguins, etc
Easy to find, spacious, comfortable. Grocery and restaurants within walking distance. Free parking on the property.
The was a little street noise (traffic).
Value for money, clean and comfortable.
On main Rd so lots of traffic noise. The smoking area was outside the windows so the smell came through the cabin and people lingering outside, coming and going throughout the night making it noisy.
It was well priced and in a good location and had parking. The lady running the place was lovely and helpful
The room we had was underneath at the back. It was a bit dark and gloomy. The room was a bit musty and smelt a bit mouldy. I'm sure the other rooms are a lot lighter and nicer.
Very friendly welcoming staff. Nice big spacious room with separate bedroom and bathroom. Parking directly outside of the room. Private outside seating area. Location was fine with just a short walk to the seafront with bars and restaurants not much further.
Can't think of anything.
It’s location and pet friendly. Was quite in the little back unit which was good because we were on busy main road . Very friendly owners.
It’s an old block of motels so the bathroom toilet area was added on back very tight area for my biggish husband.
Not happy try to.make a...
We were there 5 days our room was serviced once Bin emptied onceHad keep asking for change of towelsLighting badNo sky TV like advertised Front window had big Crack inVent in toilet bathroom never worked it kept streaming the wall and mirrorSmall step to shower turn then a small step to toilet was a trip hazardThe wall in room had broken gib like someone smashed itThe fan was so small the size of a cdOn stwitch turned on all the lights including shower and toilet to go to toilet early morning you turn on all the lights to use toilet The front door had been blackened out when turn of lights and there is light coming in thru the edgesDo people come and inspect these room before they are allowed to rent outI have stayed in alot of motel hotels because of my job and unit 10 is up there a the worst I stayed in
Close to town the pool and the beach, staff were very helpful
The welcome was very warm, and the facilities were as expected. The beds were reasonably comfortable and the place was very clean and well-presented. Yes, the decor is a little dated, but we didn't come here for a fashion display. The location was excellent, and given the proximity to SH1 and heavy traffic, the room was reasonably quiet - the double glazing, while not pretty, is very effective. If you are fond of cats, then you will also love Honey, the resident affectionate feline, who is extremely well cared for, and tells lies about how recently she has been fed. We'd definitely come back here!
The quality of the WiFi was poor. Internet speeds were way too slow and the TV feed quality made it unwatchable. Otherwise, we have no complaints about this accommodation.
It offered many useful things. Very cheap.
If the bathroom would be bigger. I couldn’t find a place for all the hygiene stuff.
the bed was very comfortable. very compact set up for the space we slept in. it could accomodate 2 adults and 3 kids! it was very conveniently located , short drive to Caroline bay to the carnival penguin nesting area.
unfortunately toilet was a little messy with toilet paper shreds when we first entered. sink needed a quick wipe . all easy fix but could be better if it was cleaned prior to arrival.the interior was old and quite damp smelling. it was a nice summer day so we opened the windows and it was fine . Parking was confusing and frustrating, we were told to part in allocated space but when we returned at night the park was occupied and office was closed so we had to randomly park at the only lot available and knock on the door to inform the occupants in that room that we had to use the parking space (they also acknowledged that they parked in someone else's spot)
Location was great. Staff friendly.
Run down inside. Lightbulb missing in main bedroom and curtain faulty. Shower was difficult for my 74 year old mother to get out off as had a big step in and out. No fan in bathroom. Tap in bathroom sink was very noisy maybe the plumbing. Could not access tvnz on demand or Netflix so nothing to watch on tv. No welcome booklet on table to describe the property or about the unit. Only had a carnival brochure on the table.
My unit was inexpensive compact and cosy. My bed was comfortable and a heater kept the unit toasty warm. The unit was equipped with crockery and cutlery, a kettle, toaster and microwave oven. I also had Honey, the motel's gorgeous kitty spend some time with me
Nothing in particular. I had a late morning flight from Timaru and I never like to tempt fate by driving 80km on the morning I'm booked to fly out. The Anchor motel was in a good location and was inexpensive.
Just a short walk from the centre of Timaru. The room was a standalone unit that was more than comfortable for a solo traveller. Friendly staff too!
Loved the staff and the practicality
Sadly the hot water didn’t work in my room & found the bedding made me so uncomfortable
