    Pros +

    • The view from our room was spectacular just watching the waves crash on the beach across the road was so calming. The bed was really comfortable and it was hydraulic adjustable, fantastic. Spa was nice and you can watch tv from there too
    • The Hotel is right on the main street directly across from the beach with IGA either side and walking distance to everything in the lovely township of Penguin. The complimentary glass of Port was an added bonus. The room was huge, and the bed was soooo comfortable and the added bonus was adjustable which was perfect for us.
    • Very convenient location on the waterfront in Penguin and next to shops and restaurants. Excellent reception stuff.

    Cons -

    • There are 3 narrow steps leading up to the bathroom. While they look amazing, I was sure I would fall down them. There’s not enough exhaust fan action in the toilet/ shower room.
    • Nothing to think of. Maybe a freezer in the fridge?
    • The room was a little small and it had only one bed and we were two friends traveling together so not ideal. Hardly any room to open or store our suitcases.

My wife and I stayed three nights in the Madsen accommodation which is in the centre of town opposite the water. The room was on the ground floor and had a spa bath. Other rooms have water views. Depending on whether you like upstairs or down it's best to phone the manager to ensure which you would like. Shopping is a breeze with two IGA super markets very close. Across the road is the Penguin brewing company with delicious beers. I recommend the "Emperor" brew. There's a deck with heaters outside to enjoy the view on a cold night.A short walk up the road is the Grand Neptune hotel with reasonably priced pub meals. There's also a very interesting op shop with, yes water views and plenty of comfortable couches for the men to wait while their wives spend time looking through all the clothes. Considering the accommodation is on the main street there was not a hustle and bustle of traffic.Parking is easy across the road and street parking overnight is very safe where we parked. If security parking is required then ask the manager Bruce who can arrange for vehicles and small camper trailers to be left overnight a few houses along. Bruce is the ultimate in hospitality together with the cleaning staff I can assure you of a wonderful stay.

Great location right across the road from the water. Good reception on arrival. Lovely room (although a little cramped with furniture). Lots of thoughtful touches to make you feel welcomed.

Happy with everything, though would have been an issue if we had mobility issues due to steep staircase.

Great location and penthouse room was roomy with a great balcony overlooking the beach.

Brilliant view and location, right on the water front. The owner/manager was a real champion.

Not much I can suggest here.

Central position of the hotel. Kind staff.

Wi-fi didn’t work. You have to park on the street. Not properly cleaned. Tight room.

Amazing service yet again ? second visit n took a big puppy again. Beautiful spot

    Location opposite the beach -great

needs separate table and chairs for eating rather than desk doubling as a prep and eating area

A nice ambience about the place. Modest room space is countered by the downstairs lobby area which is functional and comfortable. A really nice touch to have complimentary port or sherry. The host, Phillipe, was particularly pleasant and amiable.

Love the welcoming from Bruce the manager. He was so informative. We had the premium room which had the best views of Penguin.

The bathroom linen wasn't professionally cleaned which was a disappointment for me. The fitted sheet was too small & didn't go over the corners properly of the super king bed & kept coming off.

Room was good and clean and there was ease of access to the hotel.

The stairs to the room were steep. Fortunately for us we can our bags but if your bags are heavy, it would hard.

Beautiful historic house, magnificent seaside views, perfect location, wished we had stayed longer

    7SeddonPosted on: 3-24-2025

    Central location. Quiet. Willing host.

Pleasant enough, but did not live up to 'luxury' tag

The location is perfect, right in the centre of Penguin. The room was very quiet which was great for sleeping.

The room was very tired and basic. Power cords everywhere, mismatched fittings, the curtains hung off the rail and had what looked like paint on them. The coffee machine leaked. Bathroom has a nice sink and cupboard however the bath/shower screen was dirty. The face towel looked more grey than white.

Not much. I cannot recommend this hotel to anybody. It is located on the road alongside the beach but you have to park on the main road, and while cafes and the pub are nearby it is the accommodation that I was paying for.

We never saw anybody. We had to get in using the electronic code sent to us which enabled us to collect the key, and after a steep walk up the stairs with had to wait 15-20 seconds every time we wanted to enter our room while the electronic key did its stuff, not that we knew if it would work. We had booked room 1, which overlooked the sea and road, which was nice, but could not open windows which were not double glazed so suffered from road noise next morning from early on. The promotion for the property is totally misleading and shows one modern nice room but is that occupied ny the owners ?As an example of cleanliness the toilet brush was yuck.

This property is a beautiful example of boutique hotel! Greeted by Bruce who was very friendly and helpful. There is not much to do in Penguin but Bruce livened our stay with ideas for dinner, drink and activities (walking). The room was lovely, with a large window through which we had a 'side view' to the ocean. The town is quiet and comfortable. The lobby is well stocked with wine, snacks and very comfy sofas. Bruce is charming and has a ton of great stories!!!!

the stairs are not too bad if you don't have lots of heavy luggage ;)

It was extremely hot as there was no air conditioning. Also didn't realise we were in an upstairs room until arrived , which was difficult mobility wise for my mum. Broken blind in bathroom , bathroom could of been cleaner.

Incredibly hot upstairs , quite unbearable.
