Pros +
- Didn't. Very noisy, no power,
- I love its authentic Lamu feel. Place was clean and basic. Its great if all you want is a bed.
- The pool was great and clean. The staff refilled it every day. The staff was also incredible: helpful with everything we needed and we had a lot of requests because of a few injured and sick members of our party. The breakfast and the location were also great.
Cons -
- Food wasn't nice. Poor facilities.
- Breakfasts were unremarkable and service was poor
- The property was a lot more dilapidated than we could have imagined. Paint peeling off the walls and falling onto beds and luggage; chipped walls; windows that didn’t close and that didn’t block out any of the dust blowing in with the strong winds or the sounds from the neighborhood; old bathrooms with no shower curtains; old lumpy pillows; really dusty. The hotel needs a huge upgrade.

Caroline, the manager, is the key to the continued success of Jannat House. She is accommodating and organizes everything exceptionally well. The pool and the pool side bar are realy great.
It would be great to figure out some ways to make it cooler - especially for the hot months - like December/January - make sure all windows can open and that fans are blowing appropriately.
Kind and attentive staff in a traditional Swahili house.
The mattress and pillows were very worn out and uncomfortable.
Staff was amazing, welcoming, supportive, and friendly from the first until the last day. From the pick at the airport to the amazing breakfast, this accommodation is worth the money
Roof including fan low positioned
Great value for money, amazing scenery from the roof terraces and the pool was perfect for cooling down in the heat. The staff were very friendly and helpful with everything we required.
Our room was a little small.
Much (!) better than the hotels in Shela, this small hotel has everything you need for a relaxed and authentic Swahili-Arabic Lamu experience. Personal tip: Try the cafes in the bustle of Lamu town and do a Dow tour in the evening!
This is a very nice hotel in the Old Town set in a lovely 300 year old building comprising three houses. It's very pretty with lots of different stairways and areas where you can chill. It has a good pool and lovely staff. It's a five minute walk to the harbor. It is excellent value and breakfast was included.
It doesn't have air conditioning but it does have fans which are a little noisy but everything works.
It’s an oasis in the chaos of Lamu Town. Very friendly and helpful staff. The pool is a luxury in the heat. Great menu
Jannat House is a stylish historic house located in the heart of the old town, with amazing atmosphere, very friendly staff including Caroline who helps with the most important issues, very tasty breakfast. Highly recommended
They had generous serving for all meals, fresh vegetables and fruits. The staff were very friendly and helpful.Organised for some tours through proxies.Pick-up and drop-off arranged by the manager.
The pool was too exposed and tiny and did not meet our expectations. The room service requires some improvement. Was not offered regularly, had to request for clean towels and tissue papers each time. The beds were very uncomfortable, mattress and pillows too hard/worn out. Bed linen and towels were worn out and discoloured. They offered tiny pieces of bar soaps in each bathroom which did not lather, and supply of toilet paper was irregular. We had to purchase our own supply of shower gels instead. Ooh, one of the boys had a bat visiting his room overnight. He wrestled and covered the mammal in a towel overnight. Those wide windows require some mesh! And the hungry cats were everywhere too during mealtimes.
One of the most interesting buildings I've ever stayed in - with a maze of narrow stairways leading to secluded terraces . A delight in it's own right but the pool was a lovely addition. The staff too were charming.
It was an exceptional experience being the first time in Lamu. It's very unadulterated and I trust this stays that way. When Carol told me someone would meet us I was very happy ? the shocker that turned into this amazing experience was realizing that our vehicle to the hotel would be a boat ?️. When I realized that was the way life was there and no exclusivity in terms of the hotel being set apart my partner and I absolutely loved it. We loved walking up and down the stairs to and from our room, great exercise ?.The staff were awesome Carol, Festus and team were extremely helpful and awesome. It was more family than staff and client relationship. When you book and go there ask for Mzee Ziwa his tours of the town and even having to convince me to go for an over an hour boat ride to some village was a great addition to the Jannat experience Looking forward to another stay in the near future.
The residence was quite okay and matches the photos provided. The staff were very friendly and helpful including activities to do around Lamu. Although small, the pool was a nice addition for the hot afternoons inside the premises.
The customer service is excellent... professional and in line with Lamu's life rhythm. Staff are extremely kind, helpful and always willing to go an extra mile. Loved that there were multiple balconies, sitting areas all around. Perfect for book readers and early birds who want to catch the sunrise.
I don't like that the place made me want to stay there forever.
I adored the architecture of Jannat and thatIt refuses exploit its five-star potential. The pool is lovely late at night.
The beds are a bit hard.
The hotel is so nice and cute and beautiful- very authentic Lamu! It’s perfectly placed in old town. Loved the architecture and staff! So friendly !
Nothing really - they fixed a dirty mosquito net on our second day.
I really loved Caro. For my type of personality someone who stays out of my space is a gem. Caro checked me in and did not bother me apart from the greetings. She was still available and very helpful when I needed anything. The staff are so warm and welcoming. I absolutely loved my suite it wad super spacious and the property was so serene. Breakfast was great with great fruits. The balcony joints are to die for. I liked this place. Ensure you book the sunset cruise this was absolutely lovely.
The pool needs regular cleaning. The strews for supper were rather too spiced even after request but the chapatis and vegez were amaizing.Ohh this has nothing to do with the house but if you are visiting Lamu just note the environment is not so clean due to the animals so carry a mask if you want to walk around and do the Lamu tour. Also lower your expectations as the old town has no beach and its typically the coastal culture so a lot of noise from the mosques as well as the donkeys.
Everything about Jannat House was awesome. The pool was so nice to cool off in the HOT Lamu climate. Honestly, I dont think we could have survived the heat without the pool. The service was amazing. We felt so welcomed. Like a home away from home. The chef provided an impromptu cooking class to show up how to cook the fish we caught. Carol provided good advice and has a reputation for being a good, honest, and caring manager. There are alot of areas to lounge in the shade. Its quiet but close to everything. When we come back to Lamu, this is the only place we will stay due to our warm, lovely experience. THANK YOU!!
Nothing. Everything was awesome and comfortable.
