The room was very musty and it seemed like it was not well ventilated. I tried to get some fresh air in the room by opening the door to the balcony but it didn’t help. This was during a rainy period in June which probably added to the problem.

Modern and clean, enough room for our suitcases, good amenities, bonus was the free cocktail! Good location.

A bit too narrow of a room for 3 people. Personally not a fan of dark lighting.

Excellent stay, I loved my stay here at Material, the hotel is incredibly beautiful and comfortable. The beds are amazing, loved the jacuzzi with very warm water, everything was just exceptional, would love to return to this hotel. Totally recommend if you want a stay in Kyoto.

I loved everything, just a suggestion on the main bathroom adding a bigger trashcan.

The setup of the floors were really spacious and accommodating to our group. Everything was clean and what we expected.

I wish staff was on site for more hours than just the 3-8 PM timeframe.

Excellent location, close to transit and stores. Staff was excellent! Nice onsen & appreciate the spices and olive oil in kitchen.

Sirens due to hospital nearby, but with windows closed, it was minimal.

The staff was very helpful and answered my questions online promptly without fuss. The facilities were great and the rooms were big.

It will be better if there could be staff stationed for a longer period of time physically everyday for easier communication. It was also quite a distance to walk from the nearest train station.

I really liked how the bathroom and toilet was separated. The bed was nice. It looked good, there was what we needed.We even recieved a coupon for a drink and a snack in the bar that's connected, unfortunately we didn't get to use it, but it was our plan and what a nice thing! ☺️ there was also a mini fridge with 2x bottled water. There was a kettle and 2 teabags and for 2 cups of coffee ??? we felt very welcomed !It was pretty close to Niko castle and not too far from the golden Temple.

I didn't like how heavy the doors to the bathroom and bath was, it looks sleek but were a little hard to like. The light wasn't great for doing ones makeup because it came from above you, but that is a very small thing ?

The staff was super nice and the room very quiet. The bar was really quaint and the barman was extremely nice.

Was disappointed that the bedsheets were not changed during our stay or our beds were not remade, also the room had literally nowhere to store our suitcases

The location is far from jr station and train station but near to bus stop which is the primary mode of transport in kyoto

Staff was lovely - we had some delays and could only make it to the hotel at 2030, whilst reception closes at 2000. The receptionist messaged me through booking.com to see where I was and stayed overtime to receive us. absolute 10/10 serviceCheck-in/out - Extremely easy. Simple check out process too. Location - probably the biggest disadvantage. Long walk ~600m from the nearest station Marutomachi (not JR) which is then another 10-15min to Kyoto station. ~1km-ish walk to the main shopping/fish market districtOther petty things:Sound insulation - we were on the 2nd floor facing the main road and there's a hospital nearby so could hear sirens & passing vehicles clearly throughout the night.Poor room lighting - dark interior is cool but needed to have far far better lighting. was incredibly difficult to check our outfits/check the room before checking out even during the day with all lights on. Also the big mirror in front of the desk/sink is way too short. At 181cm needed to constantly hunch over to see myself

We love the room layout for room 501. The lady at the front desk was so nice that she cleaned our room by herself! We’d come back!

We found lots of papers and trash from previous guests under the sofa. So we guess they don’t clean the room properly. I wish they can clean the room everyday.

This was the most comfortable place we stayed in Japan. Honestly, one of the most comfortable hotels ever. Beds were super comfy, staff were very nice. It was small, but you don’t need much because you’re barely there. There’s a lot of food places close by and multiple markets and convenience stores

The only thing I didn’t like was that it was much farther from everything than I thought, but there were multiple bus stops near by which made it easy to commute.

Staff were great, bar tender was knowledgeable and friendly. Accomodation was very comfortable and felt secure, really enjoyed our stay. We were approx. 20min on subway from Kyoto station, however the location was still in reasonable proximity to restaurants, shops and landmarks and transport was very accessible and easy to use.

cheap fix for one night 

The sheets on the bed look like they had not been changed, full of wrinkles.otherwise, the room was clean, but the hotel is not located in an interesting area, except that it’s close to the station for the metro. room was overall pretty clean.
