Pros +
- The hotel is nice when compare with US same level hotels, quite and clean. very new. The staff are nice. However if judged by Japan service level or comparing with other hotels I lived in this Japan trip, it is just average.
- The hotel staff were super accommodating and held our bags at the front while we went out for the day. They brought our bags up and even set up what was meant to be a double room with a futon for our third traveler making what could have been a difficult travel day that much easier. The room was excellent and everything worked great. There was also a complimentary happy hour in the evening with local drinks that was very appreciated.
- Staff was extremely professional and friendly. Very good location, next to monuments and the subway, but without being too crowded.
Cons -
- You have to pay on when you check in, it is very confusing no other Japan hotel did this, or, actually I never lived in a hotel asking customer pay in advance. So weird. And clean the room ever other day. This is like a US economy hotel.
- The breakfast was high quality but was lacking options.
- Our room was facing main street, you can't open the windows in the rooms.

The breakfast was high quality but was lacking options.
Great location next to the metro station, very close to main attractions- 20 min walk to Gion. Tasty breakfast, moderate selection of dishes, we missed bread a bit. A pleasant surprise was the free evening refreshment with a large selection of local alcohols.
Our room was facing main street, you can't open the windows in the rooms.
The location is perfect, very quiet and a Station close by. Rooms a very nice and clean. Staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was really good, local products.
Loved the service , quality of the room and the evening drinks
Table Corner in the first floor
Window view
The hotel is new and beautiful. The room is quite spacious, clean, and well designed. It also comes with nice view of the Shirakawa Canal. The bathtub was a plus, particularly after a day-long walk in cool weather. Great location where close to an underground station and within 10 mins walk to Gion. Staffs are helpful and courteous in overall. I shall come back again.
I wasn't able to connect my phone with the bluetooth soundbar at room, it would be great if there are some kind of "instruction" available. The bed if a bit too hard for me but comfy enough I would say.
Nice, spacious and modern room with an amazing rain head shower and perfect location. Very helpful and friendly staff. I would be more than happy to stay here again!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Tassle Hotel and will definitely be back! The hotel itself is fairly new and in a great location being a 10 min walk from the main shopping streets and public transport. The rooms are spacious (for Japan) and have all the modern cons you could need. Staff were extremely friendly and would offer to help with anything needed. This is my top pick for hotels in Kyoto.
The location is great. Very close to the temples and tourist sites. The hotel lobby is very nice. The bathroom is very spacious and the bath tub huge. Bed was big. Note for families, you can go to Bamboo restaurant not too far as options for kids friendly restaurant nearby are bad.
Some of the staff weren't the nicest. No laundry service. No microwave oven to heat up a simple thing. The room could do with some space for luggages, the bathroom was unnecessarily big. The room was quite stuffy with no way to crack open the window for some ventilation except from the aircon.
Excellent location. Walking distance to the market, bars, and restaurants. Great view of the river! Would stay again!
Staff , location , interior design.
Great interior design. The bathroom is extremely well designed and comfortable with a big bath tube and high pressure shower. The hotel is very clean with style. They also have all you can drink cocktail in the lobby from 6-10pm. I love this place and will definitely come back
The size of the room is pretty small
The room was large, the bed and pillows were very comfortable. I liked the seperate toilet to the bathroom also. Facilities and location were great and the staff were so lovely.
Free night time drinks and snacks. The shower was spacious and water pressure good. The bed was comfy. The room was clean.
Space was a bit tight with two large suitcases and carry-on bags. However, we still had a lot room in the living space.
Everything. The location was really pretty, the hotel was beautiful. Room was great with everything you need and more. Friendly staff and completely drink in the evening
Great location. Clean rooms. Lovely lobby area with free drinks in the evening!
The Tassel Hotel Sanjo Shirakawa has the perfect location in Kyoto. It is right next to the subway entrance/exit which makes it a delight when wanting to get around in the area or if you are arriving/leaving with your luggage. Even if you aren’t using the subway system, the hotel is just about a 10-15 minute walk away from most of the hotspots in the area. It has a great atmosphere to wind down for the night or to recharge before you go out for the day. It has a beautiful canal stream that runs along the side of the hotel for a beautiful and peaceful view when leaving in the morning and coming back at night. The hotel was clean and comfortable, rooms were the perfect size! They even had a free tasting of local drinks to try from 18:00-22:00! I loved this free tasting because you got to try the beverages made in the area and they even had other countries/regions included. But this is just the start of how amazing this hotel is… The staff at the Tassel Hotel made our time in Kyoto even better than we could’ve imagined. One of the employees made the biggest impression on my wife and I for our entire time in Japan. They were the kindest and most thoughtful person we had the pleasure of meeting. They took the time to talk with us about what we wanted to do in Kyoto, recommended the best store locations, hot spots in the city, took the time to plot out a map and the best way to get to places we were interested in, and let us know about what their personal favorite drinks to try while we stayed in Kyoto/Japan. We are eternally grateful for the wonderful staff at this hotel for everything they did for my wife and I on our Honeymoon. Huge shoutout to Mariko!!! My wife and I agree, next time we visit Japan, we will be booking this hotel again as it honestly was one of the top highlights of our trip. The hotel: BEAUTIFUL, the rooms: DREAMY, the location: PERFECT, the area: STUNNING, the staff: OUTSTANDING.
Pillows were comfortable, and cleanliness was good.
It started even before I arrived, I was coming by car, so I asked about parking. To which they only said they didn't have it and didn't offer a list of good parking around (in Kyoto it's important when you're looking for a long-term parking). When we arrived we were given the room, which had nothing to do with photos on booking or with what i paid for. I pointed that out and was told that we were given the leftover room basically. Because "some people booked the room you wanted a month or even 3 months in advance and they have a priority over people who booked last minute to see red leaves". Fun fact. I booked 3 months in advance. The view from my room was a wall. The room was super cold. The location of the room itself was by the elevator, so I was woken up constantly. Noise isolation was nonexistent. The expected complimentary items (e.g. shoe buff) not only wasn't provided to start with, but also not in stock when asked for. Every little detail of the stay was below expectation. You'll get a better room and service at an average 3 star hotel in Japan for a better price.
