    Pros +

    • Walking distant to shopping streets and restaurants. The onsen was also relaxing.
    • Everything was exceptional!
    • Great location, clean, kind staff. Onsen faculty and reasonably affordable

    Cons -

    • Some facilities were closed due to the New Year
    • The breakfast was a little more American. Might be a plus if you prefer.
    • The rooms were too small especially if you have more than one luggage bag. We had to wait a couples hours for a free laundry machine and would recommend this hotel adding more.

The hotel is a mix between the more American well kept accommodations I've come to expect in the US mixed with the really wonderful culture and politeness of Japan. Plus the Miko was amazing!

The breakfast was a little more American. Might be a plus if you prefer.

This hotel set the expectations early as we arrived. The lobby already gave premium and cultural feel as soon as we walked in and they were able to check us in early because our room was ready even though we arrived nearly 2 hours before scheduled check-in time. The room appeared much more spacious than described, making good use of of the space, and the added elements of more traditional ryokan-esque features made the room even better (tatami mat flooring, sliding door to separate room and entrance walkway/bathroom, window screens, etc.). Loved a lot of things about this hotel and would certainly welcome a stay again.

They couldn't help us with luggage forwarding because our next place of stay wasn't a manned hotel/homestay location, which is understandable. Only one convenience store nearby which limits some options for things at odd hours.

Rooms were comfortable and liked that they had onsite laundry services. Very centrally located. Loved the nightly shows/experiences.

they could have provided daily room cleaning without additional charges. Hotel restaurant seemed overpriced.

Great location. Rooms are well laid out.

Our neighbors were noisy at times, and I don't think "soundproofing" means what the hotel's ownership thinks it means. WiFi access was terrible, and this made it difficult to finalize arrangements. My tablet could not connect to the network (it did fine everywhere else) so we had to rely on a phone. We had to pass through a den of cigarette smokers every time we went in or out of the guest area of the hotel.

    Private bath was great!

Smelled like smoke on main floor and in our room. Breakfast was average.

First time In a hotel like this. The rooms were so clean & very comfortable. I didn’t want to wake up with how cozy everything was. Staff was so attentive. When I had questions regarding my stay & even their luggage forwarding process, they were able to answer my questions with ease. Onsen was clean & amazing. They offer patches for tattoos & im so grateful because I’d be turned away at other onsens due to them.

Everything was great! Excellent location, beds were really comfortable, room was clean. They even gave you pyjamas. The staff were really welcoming and the geisha show and access to the onsen were a great plus! I would definitely stay here again.

Great location - few steps from underground mall and train station. Well equipped (although tiny) rooms with all you need.

The Onsen was excellent after all day winter walking but there is only one bath - it was not very crowded but more space would be great.

It’s a good hotel around 10 min walking to the train station, convenience store 1 min walk, very close to the market

    7HanaePosted on: 12-28-2025

    Jazz modern and Japanese style

The TV starts on its own when you enter your room

    4DanielPosted on: 12-25-2025

Glamorous veneer and good proximity to public transportation. The bed was soft and spacious, two thick body towels were given. Lighting of the room was great.

The room was unexpectedly cramped. Upon entering it is very dark until you place your card in, usually there’s at least a hallway light. The tv is forced turned on at the same volume to music every time you come in. The room was connected to the center atrium so noise from the lobby leaked in. Overall minor inconveniences. But the worst one was upon leaving an Asian couple left in front of me and the staff deeply bowed. I followed after and received a nod…I understand the strife of Kyoto and its tourists, but I had grown tired of the micro aggressions and was happy to have finally left the city with that last pitiful ojigi.

    10christinePosted on: 12-25-2025

Location is excellent! They also had laundry rooms. 2 floors with 2 machines each. There was a queue though. Lobby was nice and cozy. They offered free yoga classes in some mornings. Our basic room was very roomy. Also provided us with pajamas and slippers.

Would be nice to have laundry rooms per floor:)

Conveniently located, clean, available and friendly staff.

    Would have preferred daily housekeeping

This hotel was promoted at a special rate by Booking.com so I tried it. It's ideally located near Nijo-ji castle and the Imperial Palace. It's also situated smack in the middle of 2 major subway stations (Karasuma Line and the Tozzi line). There's many convenience stores and an underground shopping center at the Metro station. The hotel has a small onsen an amenities at the reception. The exterior decoration is pleasant. A Maiko comes for hotel guests on weekdays. The performance is for guests only, and lasts 20 mn.

I waited several days before giving this review to be fair. Despite the wonderful location an room decor, I wasn't satisfied with daily, small details which in the long run were not worth my money:1. The hotel rooms and areas are dusty. Ok-someone reading may think it's going too far, however all the lacquered wood in the bedroom had fine coats of dust. The latticework in the chairs were filled dust. The tatami floor had long, black hair on it. This wasn't cleaned when my room was cleaned. 2. The onsen clothing in the drawers smells like sweat! They hadn't been washed from guests before me. 3. The practice of cleaning the room every other day is fine with me, however they promise to provide fresh bottles of water and clean the garbage cans. We were told to put our trash outside the door, and every single day I had to ask reception for a bottle of water. 4. Sending your suitcase by Takkyubin should be easy, however this hotel has "very strict" policies which make it an inconvenience for you. (I had no problems in Tokyo).
