    Pros +

    • The hotel exceeded our expectations, it was clean, modern and stylish. The front desk went above and beyond helping us with dinner reservations.
    • These facilities offered a lot of space in a big city and gave us the opportunity to be able to rest from lots of traveling around. The shower/tub combo was very spa like and made it especially easy to relax after a long day. Additionally appreciated how close this place was to the metro.
    • we loved the peaceful boutique style, and the friendly, helpful staff. electric bicycle hire was an added bonus.

    Cons -

    • not enough light in the room
    • The vent in the shower could use some cleaning but that’s just me nitpicking.
    • The room is not very clean; it's not dirty by any means but you can see water stains in the bathroom. Also the room is dark, and the lighting is too dim. Hard to see even during the day.A lot of articles mentioned they use Aesop products but our room was not. I thought they switched out Aesop but saw Aesop bottles on the cleaning crew's cart the morning we checked out. Not sure if it's because we booked the cheaper room, but feel like false advertisement or different treatments.

It was very modern and quiet. Felt very peaceful and was in a good location. Staff was incredibly nice and the welcome drink was a nice surprise.Pajamas provided were also super comfortable!!

The vent in the shower could use some cleaning but that’s just me nitpicking.

Friendly staff, has welcome drinks, has partnered with luggage service that will pick up your luggage and bring them to your next hotel or to the airport. Bed is comfortable and the room is dark.

My wife and I had a wonderful time staying at Hotel Canata Kyoto. Ben was amazing, very kind, funny, and friendly service. I manage 130 condos in Panama City Beach, Florida, and would love to hire a staff member like Ben. Give that man a raise, and keep him as long as you can!

Love the modern design! So many thoughtful elements have been put into this space, the walnut bar and table tops in the lounge/breakfast room are beautiful examples. Guest rooms are well laid out, linens are excellent and lush and amenities are upscale.

The view, peaceful neighbourhood, exceptional quality of the room, its facilities and attentive staff make this a perfect romantic stay.

There is honestly nothing to dislike about this place. You should definitely stay here, you'll never forget it!

A little away from the main tourist area, but that's not a bad thing and it's only 20 mins walk to get there. Really comfortable room and incredibly helpful and friendly staff.

Amazing location, right across from Nijo castle. The bar in the lounge is fantastic. Greta place to sit with a drink and people watch. Staff were incredible.

    Nothing to write here.

    Nothing actually

The room, bed, view, jacuzzi/bath was all amazing and the staff speaking English was a bonus.

The staff are so lovely and kind, truly feels like home (but abroad!). Special thanks to Ben, his welcoming British personality really helped set the tone for an incredible Kyoto stay

Good size, comfortable room, contemporary design with nice bathroom.

Staff were not overly helpful or friendly. The room lighting was very dim. Needed to use my phone torch to see what I was doing.

Great bathroom, good size room with comfortable bed. Room layout was very good.

The lighting in the room was way too dim. Would be good to have hooks for towels in the bathroom or on the walls in the oom.Would like to have a buffet/ breakfast option.Staff were not particularly friendly

Absolutely majestic view of the Nijo-jo castle and amazing connectivity to rest of Kyoto. Best to stay here and enjoy the zen vibe rather than staying in mad-rush central Kyoto!

The property is new, small and very clean. The bar was nice at night but very boring. The hotel is close to the train station. Which is the only good thing.

We had a room at the back which was very dark and no view. There is no breakfast service and the area is quite dead and boring. The staff were nice but gave us little to no help finding restaurants for dinner or breakfast. Although one day we saw a Japanese family having breakfast and were upset to find this is only an option if you book in advance. This hotel could be so great but I could recommend it to anyone unless they want to be in a lovely isolated and boring hotel and location. You can buy food next door at the ANA Crowne Plaze hotel and also the super expensive Mistsui Luxury Hotel but be prepared to take out a second mortgage to pay for it.

I love the location since it's near the subway station and pretty close to the shopping district and some famous sights. Although it's in a convenient area, I also liked that it was still quiet and peaceful during the mornings and evenings. The staff were very friendly and professional as well!

The lighting of the hotel room was a little too dark for my preference.

Good bed and nice bathtub.Initially, I have chosen this hotel for two main reasons. First, it had a good ranking and many positive reviews. Second, I was searching for a quiet room which was provided and it’s the reason why I don’t put 0 for this hotel. Unfortunately , my experience was not pleasant. For me it’s the case when generally positive reviews don’t reflect the reality.

The hotel invested money in bath tubs and good bed, but lacked such a basic amenity as a wardrobe closet . I was a single traveler, and I had to spread out my clothes all over the room because they had only one rack and zero drawers. I can’t imagine how this room could accommodate two travelers. After visiting 52 countries and hundreds of cities all over the world I have never seen a hotel of three or four stars without a wardrobe closet or drawers. Even the basic rooms of Citizen M in the US and Europe manage to fit in wardrobe closets in 20 square metres. What was the first suggestion of the front desk? In their opinion, I should have looked at the photos of the room in advance . I wonder how come anybody could see the absence of a wardrobe on the photos. The closets are normally hidden on photos. I found this remark totally unhelpful.Another offer of the hotel was to leave it and search for another hotel without cancellation fees. In high season in November! I was supposed to waste my time to search for another hotel, check out, move out , move in, check in again. I refused.Another front desk idea was to upgrade the room but with extra charge which I found outrageous taking into account the whole story. My offer to have a discount for the room was rejected by the hotel.Other issues in the room:1. Ladies , if you need to do make up , there is no normal mirror . I had to say to the front desk that I cannot run between a sink and a mirror in the restroom to shave my face. Ridiculous.2. No international channels on the tv. Basically , there are only several Japanese tv channels . Even in less touristy Tokyo I had the hotel with international channels. The tv is mostly a decoration for international travelers in this Kyoto hotel .3. The manager of the hotel doesn’t speak a word in English. Useless to communicate.4. The hotel is very small. So, don’t expect any laundry service.5. The safe is miniature. I could not fit in my laptop there.6.
