Hotel Gion Ichirin

I loved this hotel. My only complaint was not being able to stay longer.

The steam room took time to reach a proper steam level, which I think is because of an air gap that released steam into the rest of the room.The dry sauna was different because it was not stated it was going to be an infrared sauna or a far infrared sauna. I was expecting more of a traditional dry sauna, but I was excited to see the steam.

Honestly nothing. If I was being picky I would say the entrance - you take an elevator to get to the front desk and another to your room. No view, and no hot breakfast, but these were not important to me for this trip.

This hotel greatly exceeded our expectations. Our room was super nice and seemed recently renovated, especially the bathroom was so nice. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The hotel is close to a main street which was convenient, but still felt quiet and peaceful. Great location close to many restaurants. Only a few yards away there was a family-owned breakfast place that we loved and went almost every day. Our room was relatively large for being in Kyoto were everything is small. And the beds were so comfortable that we felt like sleeping the whole time. And most important than anything (to me), the cleanliness was top notch. Next time I return to Kyoto I will always stay here.

Beautiful, elegant hotel with a perfect mix of traditional Japanese and western qualities. Located in a great, quiet neighborhood close to nice restaurants and quaint streets. The staff were all so kind and helpful. Breakfast was a traditional Japanese style breakfast. Lovely.

Great location. Luxurious accommodations. Bathroom and room amenities (drinks, robe) were unexpected and wonderful. Quite a nice respite from the heat and humidity of the day. The entry lounge and interior architectural design features were impressive.

Room was large with a sitting area. Bathroom was fantastic. Great high quality amenities. Lobby tea area was lovely. Staff was very helpful and accommodating with our very late check in. Great location on a quiet street in Gion’s busy district. Would go back!

Not a deal breaker at all but there the windows don’t look out to anything. Lighting in the room made up for if.

Spent for 2 nights in the spa suite on rainy days in Gion. We had a relaxing time. We'll book again in the future.

Spacious rooms, luxury amenities, kind staff. The beds were so comfortable and the skin and hair care included were excellent. The shower/bath situation was absolutely incredible. The location is close to many major attractions!

The hotel is gorgeous and is in the beautiful Gion district. Haru on reception was particularly friendly and helpful. Rooms were a good size and had lots of amenities. Loved the open top private onsen experience! Our bed was the comfiest and biggest bed out of all the places we had stayed on our trip to Japan.

We checked in on November 5 and immediately fell in love with this beautiful hotel in the heart of the Gion district. The location alone is stunning—centrally located near Gion-Shijo Station, tons of restaurants, and great shopping—making it incredibly convenient for exploring Kyoto.Junko at the front desk was absolutely delightful. She went above and beyond to ensure our luggage was safely transported to our Tokyo hotel in time for our November 10 arrival—such a huge help and a stress-reliever during our trip.Our room was immaculately clean, peaceful, and thoughtfully designed. But the best part? The bathroom. The shower head was incredible—one of the most refreshing and luxurious showers we experienced in Japan.Another huge bonus: the free washing machine on the 4th floor. We arrived in Japan on November 1, so being able to wash our clothes before heading to Tokyo was incredibly convenient and perfectly timed.Highly recommend Hotel Gion Ichirin for anyone visiting Kyoto. Beautiful stay, amazing location, and even better hospitality.

The place was absolutely stunning! Staff was amazing and very kind. The room includes drinks and there’s a coffee station in lobby available to use throughout the day which was nice. Our room had a sauna, massage chair and outdoor hot tub. We will definitely be back!

The pictures in social media don’t do justice for this hotel. This is an amazing boutique hotel. Everything the seating, space and room amenities are all well thought of. It is a beautiful hotel. Beds were very comfortable and very close to main attraction around Gion area. It worked out for us perfectly staying here as first timer visiting Kyoto.

We absolutely loved this hotel. We were blown away by the set up and beauty of our room! We loved the decorative wall, spacious room, comfortable bed, massage chair. All around we absolutely loved our stay and will stay here again when back in Kyoto.

The Gion Ichirin staff were especially welcoming, attentive and helpful. The room was well appointed, beautiful, and comfortable, making for a relaxing and restful stay after a full day of sightseeing. The location provides easy access from the train station and the many wonderful sights of the Gion area of Kyoto.

Bathroom was wonderful with a soaking tub and the free drinks and snacks were plentiful

Beautiful rooms! Bathroom is huge, beds are comfy, tons of space for luggage and items.

Gion is maybe a little too far from the fun if I were to do it again.

This is a relatively small, quiet, and beautifully designed and maintained property in the heart of the old city, Gion in Kyoto. The room had lovely tatami mats on the floor, wonderful bed, and every convenience and thoughtful item. We rate the location low because it has become so full of tourists of all varieties, but the location is good for walking and for renting kimonos and such. The staff are very responsive. they do not speak much English, but have their translation device at the ready to be helpful. There is a free washing machine and dryer that can be reserved for guest use.

For us, not being able to speak Japanese a few more staff who speak some English would be nice.
