- This hotel was in a super charming older neighborhood that was very peaceful and made you almost feel like you lived there. The room was spacious and amazingly decorated. The owner put a lot of thought and intention into the design of the rooms and it shows. The neighbor hood this hotel in was amazing, it was probably our favorite neighborhood we stayed in all of our trip to Japan. The owner is super friendly and his dog is very cute. He was also very attentive and checked in with us on Whatsapp and gave us recommendations. When we needed to forward luggage, he also helped accommodate that. Just be aware, that you will need to have cash to pay for the takyubin service here, we just left it in our room for him to collect.
- Lovely ryokan in a perfect spot of Kyoto. Very close to bus and train routes. The staff were so kind!
- Very quiet street in a kyoto neighborhood and house design is lovely, was away from the crowds and felt very authentic. Room is very spacious and floor heating is lovely.
Cons -
- I don't like to put this as a negative, but to be transparent, it is a bit of a walk to kyoto station. Approximately 15-20 minutes. There is a subway station nearby thats about a 6-7 minute walk that will take you to the station as well, but for us by the time you wait for the train and everything you weren't really saving any time. We just made the walk every morning to Kyoto station which was fine for us.
- The place is unstaffed at times so check-out had to be done ourselves, would of been nice to have someone there to help with booking taxi's. Dim lighting so can be hard to see at times but this is noted in the description. Does feel more like a B&B so if you have large heavy luggage it will be difficult to get it up the stairs.
- The owner was nice but at the same time somewhat fake and rude, and the location isn't that accessible for public transport

Beautiful hotel - this was a highlight of our trip. The owner is very kind and accommodating. The room was amazing and very spacious. The beds and AC made our stay very comfortable - we loved it here! Great area as well, quite nice neighborhood by the river but close to everything.
Experienced the feel of an old authentic Japanese dwelling, but yet very comfortable and spacious. Perfect location to visit Kyoto, in an old neighborhood with characteristic charm, yet away from crowds. Staff was very accommodating, making sure everything went smoothly, and that we were comfortable. Great value.
The tatami beds were so comfortable and very easy to fall asleep on, i did not have any problem. I liked that it was very traditional so we got to experience staying in a historic traditional japanese room. My favorite thing about the property was the host. He was very communicative and friendly. He went out of his way to help one of us communicate with the police and embassy about a lost passport which led to us being able to retrieve our lost passport. I would stay here again and recommend anyone staying in kyoto to experience Hazuki Kyoto. He also has a cute sweet dog named Shin who was friendly with guest. (: We really enjoyed our stay.
We really liked the traditional stay. the room was very big, comfortable and overall clean, although there were some spider webs on the very high ceilings and dust
The owner was nice but at the same time somewhat fake and rude, and the location isn't that accessible for public transport
My boyfriend and I stayed for 6 nights. The host/hotel manager is absolutely phenomenal. We loved his presence and were very easy to contact via WhatsApp and ask about or tell anything. There were a washing machine for free use and he was taking very good care of his guest. No noise between neighbors or any other annoying sounds from the streets. Very calming and felt at home after just 3 nights. Sleeping on the futons on the floor was amazing for my back, had to get used to it the first 2 nights else it's been absolutely amazing. 10/10 would recommend everyone to go here and would gladly go again if I come to Japan again!
Very few things I didn't like.. It was only things that had nothing to do with the stay or the hotel - like the mosquitos when you went outside for a walk in the evening (that's the hit weather in Japan in September) or when it rained one day when we had to do laundry. Again this has NOTHING to do with the hotel or the stay, just life hahaha
A beautiful stay. We were very comfortable. The sheets were changed everyday and we got fresh towels. The water pressure in our shower was surprisingly good. You must be quiet to respect the other guests, but it contributes to a very peaceful and relaxing vibe. We’d happily recommend this property to anyone.
I thought the location was excellent. It was a less than 10 minute walk to the subway station with close proximity to great restaurants and museums. The neighborhood was very quiet and peaceful. Guesthouse host was very accommodating and gave me recommendations on restaurants and sightseeing.
Nothing. It was a fantastic experience!
Perfect location if you want a scenic stay near the river that’s walking distance to sights while avoiding the crowds. Great private soaking tub and spacious rooms. The owner was very gracious when we foolishly locked ourselves out of our room late at night.
It may be better suited for adults and couples than families as I think the owner is aiming for a meditative stay. There are a lot of rules regarding bringing food in the room and leaving by a certain time every afternoon for cleaning- all reasonable but challenging if traveling with a kid or teen who needs down time.
Staying in a traditional building and sleeping on futons, loved the bath. Keihan railway was close by, train station also walkable. Lovely staff
The hospitality was great, we were welcomed with warmth and the gentle host explained everything in detail. We enjoyed the traditional bath and the futons were very comfortable. We appreciated it very much when we came back in the evening after a very hot day outside and found our room fresh and cool. Thank you for everything!
Air conditioning was better than you would expect. The beds were comfortable, and the host was super nice and helpful.
The room needs to be dusted, and there needs to be a place in the shower to hang clothes so they dont get wet.
Clean. Very well taken care of home. The owner is very courteous and knowledgeable about the area. Always felt at home here
Great host and very comfortable place to stay for family of 3. The location is ideal and very quiet neighborhood. House was very clean and spacious. Host is awesome and makes us feel like home.
The location was absolutely beautiful and the owner of the Ryokan was incredibly friendly. He showed care about our stay 24/7 and even gave us a ride to the train station. He takes a lot of pride in the Ryokan and it shows with the cleanliness and beautiful atmosphere. Thank you and would recommend 100% to anyone. The owner also has a beautiful Akita named Shin and he is very sweet and will greet you coming in.
The location of the property was amazing! It’s in a really quiet spot too.The property is lovely and has a great tub, which comes in handy after all the steps you do around Kyoto
There wasn’t any amenities in the room i.e fridge and kettle. So had to go down stairs to get things if needed
The room for three people was great. A good amount of space, nice bathroom, super comfortable beds. Loved the bath!!! The owners were so kind; they spoke English well and one even offered a ride to the Shinkansen station. Please stay here!
Top location, very friendly owner, cosy atmosphere
