Old charm Japan. Very clean room. Very comfortable bed.Staff were always smiling and and welcoming breakfast was available for an extra charge, western or Japanese, of course we chose Japanese( excellent decision). Easy walking distance to the shingyogoku
Not at all quaint location
The staff were incredible, the location was convenient and quiet. Just a lovely experience!
The room in beautiful, clean, and feels new
Nice location, beautiful rooms, friendly and helpful staff
We had a wonderful stay. The room was large and comfortable, the staff was warm and welcoming, the location was quiet, and the room had our favorite toilet in Japan, which is saying something! Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. A clothes drying rack was provided, which was helpful when trying to pack light.
The room was exactly as described and the staff were all wonderful. Most spoke English and they were very accommodating with anything we needed. The breakfast was interesting (just not a standard Western style breakfast) but delicious and timely each morning. They also were able to hold our luggage for us on our last day so we didn't have to tote it around the city. Highly recommend!
The staffs were very friendly and patient with our broken Japanese. The location was also perfect, walking distance to the Kyoto JR line but also to nearby shrines and Gion.
Breakfast was delicious and certainly worth the additional cost. The location was great, it was so nice to stroll through the quiet streets and enjoy the beautiful scenery. There were great restaurants and bars nearby. Would highly recommend this for a peaceful beautiful stay.
The location was good the staff were nice
The beds and bedding were awful and so uncomfortable
The staff were more than welcoming. The room was quaint with authentic vibes. The tub was a nice addition. It was close to desirable local restaurants and venues. S
Maybe have a variety of house shoe sizes?
We had a wonderful stay here for three nights. The staff are incredibly kind and welcoming. Thankfully everyone spoke English which I appreciated as Japanese is difficult for me. There are shoe lockers at the entrance and you are provided slippers to wear to your room. There is a beverage vending machine in the lobby if you get thirsty. The rooms are spacious and decorated in traditional Japanese style. The bathrooms feature cedar flooring, walls, and bathtub which I’ve never encountered before but was a pleasant experience. The bed was a bit firm for my taste but still good for a night’s rest. The hotel is on a very quiet road with a nice creek that runs down the middle. There is an underground station about five minutes away that is a good launch point for just about anywhere you want to go in Kyoto and beyond. This location is a very good base for sightseeing all the major highlights of Kyoto. On our checkout day the staff helpfully held our luggage while we did some last sightseeing before moving to our next city. If we found ourselves in Kyoto again we would definitely stay here again!
The staff was incredibly kind and helpful. The rooms were spacious and comfortable.
There were some rowdy guests on our floor, as we were in a pretty touristy area.
Everything about this hotel is so thoughtful from the keyless entry to the matcha cookies left in your room. It had a unit for brewing coffee and tea. The bathroom is amazing with an authentic cedar tub and steam room set up for relaxing after walking all over Kyoto. It had cool robes to hangs out in. Best of all the staff is wonderful. I asked the woman at the front desk the best way to get to a shrine and she pulls out a sheet of paper with a map, correct train options, walking time, etc. They had these prepared for all the cool destinations in town. Once you get your bearings you realize that the hotel has a great location. It’s on a canal parallel to the river. Walking distance to the train station—if you have rolling luggage you could splurge for an $8 cab ride. I never write super long reviews but this property deserves it. You will be as impressed as I was.
Great location, clean facilities, charming decor/room and warm staff.
This inn is very special. We appreciated the personal welcome and familiar faces at the door, the tatami mats and soaking tub, the extremely comfortable beds and lovely views of the canal, the convenience of the location and proximity to the central train station and most of all, perhaps, the setting on the quiet charming canal.
Red chairs in the middle of the room are confusing. I noticed them in the photos … something of a head scratcher. Ignore them!!! This place is unique and fabulous.
If you’re seeking a stay in Kyoto that feels both timeless and modern, this is truly the place. This hotel beautifully embodies the heart, culture, and hospitality of Japan. From the moment we arrived, we felt completely at home during our three-night stay. The rooms were spacious, impeccably clean, private, and thoughtfully updated while still honoring traditional design. Each morning, we enjoyed a traditional Japanese breakfast delivered to our room—every meal was beautifully presented, delicious, and uniquely memorable. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay exceptional, anticipating our needs and ensuring every detail was seamless. They even arranged for our luggage to be shipped from Kyoto to Tokyo flawlessly, making our travel completely worry-free.We cannot express enough gratitude for the incredible hospitality and care we experienced here. This stay was truly unforgettable.
The perfect blend of a traditional ryoken with modern amenities… breakfast was phenomenal, room large and comfortable with our own zen garden, wooden cedar bath clean and soothing, and the hosts were so kind and gave little gifts! Just 3-4 minute walk to the station, and restaurants nearby. LOVED this place!
