    • Location cannot be beat for people interested in visiting historic Kyoto. Shuttle bus to/from the train station is a useful service. This hotel has class. The buffet breakfast is a little expensive for the what is offered.
    • The location was amazing, and the room was large for Japanese standards. Staff was very kind and welcoming.
    • Location was good to most activities but there’s only few options for affordable restaurants without walking a lot.

    Cons -

    • Breakfast buffet was a not as elaborate as it should have been for the price.
    • They made us book another room for a 7 year old child! We had to book 2 rooms! For 2 people and a child! This is outrageous. We couldn’t just add our kid to the room.
    • All so beautiful, the garden areas just call out to have live traditional music being played!

This hotel fits the cultured and pure artist character of Kyoto. Beautiful fine touches everywhere, the lobby jazz to the black bamboo to the full-bodied tea, to the amazing room design with moving walls to open or close spaces. Truly kind staff. bliss

All so beautiful, the garden areas just call out to have live traditional music being played!

    Location.

Not too accommodating, so I had to cut my stay short.....

Everything about this hotel is wonderful.

    9MinaPosted on: 1-30-2026

Great location and breakfast. There is minimal concierge service but the staff is very professional otherwise. Once we checked out, we were no longer gmfeing welcome in the lobby while waiting for train time.

No real concierge services. Breakfast room could use an update- looks shabby without a view or windows.

I liked the quiet location centrally located to great wonderful restaurants and walking distance to excellent shopping, geisha town, and kiyomizu-dera temple (probably the best temple around). Excellent restaurants are blocks away. Taking the bus around is easy as well. I loved the free drinks in the lounge from 4-6 everyday. What a great way to unwind after site seeing. The breakfast was also top rate. It was absolutely amazing. The staff was exceptional and the room was clean

I felt the thumping from people upstairs was something that distracted sleep early in the night. Also the walls were thin enough to hear the kid next door. The bed wasn’t as comfortable as the AC hotel in Tokyo but it wasn’t too hard.

Excellent location, close to temples as well as the inner city. Very tranquil. Rooms very well designed and comfortable. Breakfast is good - just make sure you time it well as it can get busy. Very good concierge to help out with restaurant recommendations.

Delicious breakfast, very comfortable room and spa area

    8ConniePosted on: 1-20-2026

On a bright note the front desk personnel were wonderful!

The restaurant food (breakfast)was very disappointing and the bar was like a dungeon-ugh!

    10VictorPosted on: 1-20-2026

Customer service was amazing and the onsen was beautiful.

I do wish there was a longer happy hour to meet other guests.

The breakfast is amazing, and we used the shuttle which was very convenient. Location is great.

The other guests at this hotel were frankly terrible. They all stormed the lounge at 4pm for the free drinks and posted up there until 6pm, consuming everything in sight and being loud and boisterous. My group of 6 all avoided the lounge at this time. At breakfast, there was little decorum - people cutting in line, reaching in front of you, all the the bad manners. If you wanted something quiet and refined to match the vibe of the city, this isn't it. The staff bungled a dinner reservation made specifically to celebrate an engagement that just happened in our party. It ended up being ok, but the lack of follow through and lack of apology wasn't great. I've stayed at other Michelin key properties and they were worlds away from this one in terms of hospitality - things like concierges that reach out proactively to help make reservations or arrangements, welcome notes in the room, greeting you by name, etc. None of that happened here.

Location is excellent on a quiet street but very close to major city attractions; Not a big building, so enjoyed the calm, homey atmosphere, staff very helpful and polite. Room sparkling clean (and maintained so every day), a little larger would have helped, no drawer for clothing. Breakfast very good and with great variety, staff there very helpful and prompt.

TV line-up containing very few international programs- CNN and BBC News - and not useful as dubbed in Japanese.

Beautiful room design and good value for what you pay. A short walk to the Gion district

    10EricPosted on: 1-19-2026

The Celestine Kyoto Gion is an outstanding hotel, with exceptional service, outstanding location, comfortable rooms, and a stylish inteior. It was the perfect place to explore all that Kyoto has to offer. The room was quiet and comfortable, and the staff went the extra mile to help us with things like arranging bike rental and dinner reservations.

We had dinner one night at the hotel. The dinner was fine -- but not the same excellent standard as the rest of the stay. I thought the food was decent, but not outstanding.

    10AshleyPosted on: 1-16-2026

Hotel Celestine provided a truly excellent stay with their focus on guest comfort and amenities. The location alone is a highlight as you're in the heart of Gion and located close to major tourist attractions, restaurants, bars, and bus stops. The room was spacious, with a beautiful bathroom, free amenities, and comfortable beds. We added on the breakfast which had a wonderful variety for people of different tastes. The hotel also has a free shuttle from the Kyoto train station which made traveling convenient. However note, that the shuttles stop pretty early (approximately 6 PM) so keep this in mind in case you're arriving late.

The price is a little higher but I believe the location, convenience, and attention to detail make up for this.

The location is amazing walking distance to so many activities, restaurants, temples shopping Very peaceful hotel accommodations lovely staff rooms are great. Onsen was so relaxing. Was there for the New Year’s celebration? They had a beautiful concert. They also have a small bar that had great cocktails, and Little bites.
