    Pros +

    • Location, staff and proximity to temples was amazing.
    • Great location and spacious room.
    • Located in a great area. All the temples are within walking distance. The room was spacious and comfortable. Hotel was located in the historic GION district. Really beautiful.

    Cons -

    • Nothing!
    • We were staying in rooms 402 and 401. Our kids were in 401 and they had comfortable beds and pillows. My husband and I were in 402 and our mattress should be replaced. There was a sag in the middle and it was quite hard. They had added a small pad on top to help but really, a new mattress was needed. Also, our pillows were quite hard. The other thing is that the curtain on our window kept out very little light. Updating the curtains would help too!
    • Everything was excellent.

Loved this hotel in Kyoto- clean comfortable rooms- nice breakfast and close to everything.

    Nothing!

The location was fantastic. We liked being close to busses and trains.

Breakfast had some nice variety and was a good way to start the day. The location was very quiet and further away from the bustle, but felt safe and not super touristy, while also providing easy access to the main street and more of Gion. Really great to have a large bottle of water provided every day as well.

Breakfast was excellent--traditional Japanese cooking, different and delicious every day.Soaking bath in the bathroom was very nice--like a personal hot tub. Also had a shower.Location couldn't be better: a block off of the main street in Gion. Walking distance to everything: restaurants, nightclubs, temples, kabuki theatre, etc.

Wonderful hotel, large room, comfortable and very close to all the exciting things in Gion area.

    Everything was excellent.

I loved almost everything about this place. Ultra central, walkable distance from important cultural places, markets, everything. Very clean and comfortable.

    Breakfast is poor.

Fabulous location! Convenient to Gion area and public transport. Great combination of Western style (beds, amenities) and Japanese style (yukata in room, Japanese breakfast).

Minor issue … Difficult to control room temperature. I woke up and it was pretty warm in my room in the middle of the night.

    10JaninePosted on: 4-7-2025

The location was amazing, so close to transport, food options and exploring on foot and the staff were super friendly and helpful. We had two rooms, which were very spacious and comfortable. We loved the traditional buildings of the area we stayed in, much nicer than the newer Kyoto.

    Nothing- loved it all!

Good hotel, clean, Japanese breakfast was very good. Great location at the very traditional Gion area. I was happy, no complaints. I would book it again next time.

Staff at reception was not visible almost at any time. Sometime I wanted to make some quaestions. Not big deal, did not affect my trip at all, since I am a quite independent seasoned traveller. But I think that could be improved.

The room was spacious and comfortable. The bath is huge! The location is amazing! Close to attractions and amenities. Staff were 10/10 thank you so much!

Very kind and available staff, great position near the center but in a peaceful back alley, large room and large bathroom.

Only traditional breakfast available (no western or "sweet based" options available), the bed was not very comfortable (a bit hollow in the center).

We had a very large room with a huge bathroom. We could easily put our stuff away and still have room to comfortable move around. The bathroom came with a large bath. The location of the hotel is also a big bonus, you can easily walk around Gion at night when the tourists are away and take beautiful pictures. The hotel had a 50's-60's vibe in it's design what was something different but nice from all our other hotels.

A lot of noise could be heard from outside when we went to bed from machines. This was not plesant but it wasn't to much that we couldn't sleep because of it. If you are someone who can't sleep with noise, I would not recommend this hotel. Also the breakfast was Japanese (what we knew in advance), but it wasn't buffet style where you could chose from a variety of Japanese dishes.

Located just a short 5 minute walk from Gion Shijo station in the historic Gion district, a 15 minute walk to Yasaka Jinja shrine. Most other attractions in Gion are within a short bus or train ride away. The Room was super large for a hotel in Japan which generally have smaller rooms with nice pastel colours, high ceiling, retro fittings, cute cat wallpaper in the toilet. There was a 2 seater settee and a coffee table, a table across the opposite wall with a TV, kettle & a 2L water bottle. A bar fridge, 2 yukatas and slippers were under the table, other amenities could be picked up from a table near reception. Mr Ariyoshi was quite helpful with information and directions.

The shower nozzle was quite small but had decent water pressure, the height of the sink was quite low around the waist area and the bath/hand towels were quite thin compared to normal hotel towels, however they would replace them daily if left by the front door the next morning. The worst part was the large bed with a hard and uncomfortable mattress that appeared to be over the frame of a "water bed" that had been converted to a bed base. Breakfast was a Japanese menu with miso soup, rice, tiny bit of fish, veg? and some juices. Very basic and not catered for Westerners so unfortunately we gave it a miss on the second & third day.

Nice location in a quiet area of Gion.

The rooms were very dated and the beds and pillows were very uncomfortable.

    5PaulPosted on: 11-7-2024

The size of the rooms are very spacious, the room facilities were excellent, staff were very friendly. The location is excellent close to old and new.

The breakfast was very traditional Japanese, so some might not like it.

Position, dimensions of the room and staff very good

We stayed on the 4th floor, room number 411 if I'm not wrong, the mattresses were very old with springs wich made me feel extremely uncomfortable for the three nights...felt pain on the back, very bed sleep quality wich ruined the stay unfortunately

I loved that "oldie" flair of the hotel. Everything was clean and comfy, breakfast was typical japanese food and I liked it a lot, staf was super kind. It all just added to my beautiful experience of wonderful Kyoto.

Can't think of anything bad. Luck of view from the window, maybe?
