The General Kyoto Bukkoji Shinmachi

Small hotel, well designed rooms. The bathroom and the king size bed were really comfortable, the pajamas provided were also very nice. The bed was made every day, towels were changed and they provided a good amount of towels for various purposes. They provided free drinks and snacks in the lounge area which was a nice touch.

The room didn't really get much light and the only laundry machine in the hotel broke while we stayed there. They said it was repaired after a day but it wasn't, it remained out of order our whole stay. Unfortunately as a couple traveling from overseas for a long period of time and relying on hotel facilities, this made our life quite difficult.I had also called before our stay to ask if they could help me make a reservation in Kyoto (as it can be very difficult without speaking japanese) but was told that we had to check in first for them to help. I would have expected a more attentive customer service.

We were very pleased with our stay at THE GENERAL KYOTO Bukkouji Shinmachi!The interior was beautifully designed, the breakfast was very tasty with fresh ingredients, the hotel provides drinks in the lounge between 4-10pm for free, the location is great close to restaurants, shops, and metro station.We would definitely go back! Highly recommend!Thank you!

Loved the lounge area where you could get free alcoholic/other beverages and snacks during the late afternoon/evening. Also loved the elaborate hot breakfasts including daily changing meat and egg items in addition to as many cappuccinos/coffees as one would like. And for Japan, loved the relatively large size of the room and noise isolation leading to complete silence in the room. Loved the very high tech lighting system (dimmers on a lot of the lights). Beautiful and large bathroom area. Washing machine was very useful as well! And finally, staff was very friendly and helpful.

This hotel is perfect!Great location just few min walk from the metro station and main attractions. The rooms design is so beautiful and comfortable and the bathroom septets are perfect. The complementary lounge is great addition and provides a quiet space for drink and light snacks. The staff is very friendly and welcoming and so attentive to all guests requests.

The room had a smell that would not go away, was very worn for a few building, the bathroom was dirty even after cleaning, and we don’t think the things we like about the hotel constitute the high prices (value for money)

The hotel staff was friendly. They have washer machine. Quiet neighborhood with lots of places to eat around.

Room was the perfect size. Everything was set up to be very convenient - the number of outlets, shelving, toilet and shower set-up. It was so useful too that they provide water refills and drinks at the lounge. Reception was very helpful and informative, made shipping luggage to our next hotel very easy. Location was accessible to bus and train, but was very quiet. Overall, this hotel ruined us for our next hotels as everything was just exactly right.

The property was near to many eateries and stores. It is nestled in a quiet side street. The property is quaint and clean, staff is super friendly and helpful. They provided a map to the shopping mall close by. They have a lounge with coffee, tea, snacks! The room is sized just right, and we appreciated the king bed, as my husband is 6’2”. Most other hotels only have full or double beds. The amenities are great, we booked this on a whim with nothing brought with us…they provided toothbrushes and toothpaste, hair brushes and hair ties, and the usual shampoo, conditioner, body wash, washcloth, lotion, facial cleanser and more! Forgot to take pictures of the bed. Would definitely recommend! 10/10!

Excellent breakfast. Choice of two main plates, which varied each day. Plus bakery items (toast bread, small croissants, etc.), cereals, coffee, tea, juices etc.

Absolutely beautiful room, elegant, simple, with everything you need and thoughtfully designed. The shower was perfectly spacious, elegant with great water pressure. The lounge is quiet and pleasant and breakfast was delicious. The people there are so welcoming. I would highly recommend The General Kyoto!

Not too far from the bus or subway stations, but on a quiet street. The breakfast was prepared according to your choice from the menu. Drinks and snacks were available in the afternoon until 10 pm. A self-service laundry machine was located in the building.

Great location with comfortable accommodations including laundry machines. Especially liked the guest lounge with free snacks and beverages.

The property was clean, modern, and the staff was very gracious.

The rooms were very tiny with no place to put away a weeks worth of clothing for a couple. The table and two chairs in the room were very low to the ground and sized for a young child. The property does not have a restaurant nor bar.

The hotel was pretty ideally located being close to the subway station and an easy walk to shopping and the Nishiki area. There are a lot of small restaurants very near the hotel. The hotel is very nice with a comfortable lounge with drinks and snacks. The rooms are a bit small. There is little room for suitcases larger than carryon size. The bed was comfortable. The hotel was very quite. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We would stay there again.

Our room was a little small. There was insufficient space to unpack or to keep suitcases open.

Good central location. Modern hotel rooms. Adequate size. Nice lounge area for full breakfast and afternoon tea, coffee, sodas and snacks. The staff was especially helpful from check in to check out. Helping with luggage, directions for food and sights and calling taxis. Four nights in the hotel. I would go back.
