    Pros +

    • The number one thing I can commend about this hotel is the service. The staff were very accommodating and spoke great English. The additional amenities were also a great plus. The lounge area was interactive and fun, food was great, and overall a nice atmosphere. Although it wasn’t very close to the main attractions of Kyoto, I felt the walk to be scenic and enjoyable since this hotel is right next to the Kamo River.
    • The room and facilities!
    • Very large and comfortable rooms for Japan. Clean and good location. Great value as the price was very good for the quality of the hotel. We stayed 5 nights and left highly satisfied.

    Cons -

    • The location and a LOT of street noise with a balcony room.
    • Hard to pick things that we didn't like at HIYORI Stay Kyoto Kamogawa! The closest convenience store is a little bit of a walk. A lot of the attractions you'll have to get there by car/taxi. Other than that, the hotel is in a nice, safe, centralized location!
    • The bathroom (toilet closet) smelled bad; the toilet itself seemed clean but the floor wasn’t.

This is an excellent spot for our family of four. Spacious room and well equipped for the basic cooking we wanted to do during our week in Kyoto. While it is not as centrally located to restaurant options as we had hoped, it is within walking distance of Kiyomizu Temple and sites in Gion. We loved the rental bikes and took advantage of having the river in immediate proximity (definitely recommend this for anyone who likes to fold jogging into their vacation). The welcome drink and coffee access were a huge plus as we’d been missing decent morning coffee! Special thanks to Joe who moved our room to a high floor with a river view- staff were super helpful and friendly to us and our outgoing kids!

Staff was excellent and helped us book an experience in town, answered questions, and gave helpful suggestions.

We only had the breakfast option one day, it was fine for a hotel breakfast. We mostly had our food options picked out in other parts of the city. The hotel breakfast is just for if you need something quick and convenient.

Hard to pick things that we didn't like at HIYORI Stay Kyoto Kamogawa! The closest convenience store is a little bit of a walk. A lot of the attractions you'll have to get there by car/taxi. Other than that, the hotel is in a nice, safe, centralized location!

Everything was great, location super close to one of the most beautiful market/mall. The rooms big enough to accommodate us, bathroom with laundry room and a small kitchen. Great amenities like pajamas, shampoo , facial cleanser and lotion. The front receptionist always willing to help Jeff was amazing and also the lady ( I forgot her name ) Great people!!

They can improve the breakfast a little bit, every day is the same thing. Good food and great coffee but needs more variety.

We had a wonderful stay at Hiyori Stay Kyoto Kamogawa and found it very comfortable for a family. The hotel felt quite new, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed. The room was spacious enough for a family of four to five, with complete facilities that made our stay easy and relaxing. The kids especially loved the bunk bed, and we appreciated having two extra beds, as no one in our family actually slept on the bunk—our kids happily turned it into a small play area during our stay. There was a small living and dining area, which we really enjoyed, especially since the table and chairs were at regular height—a big plus compared to other hotels where dining meant sitting on the floor. It made family dinners much more comfortable. The lobby itself was quite small, but this was more than made up for by the excellent staff service. During our stay, it rained heavily, and even after we had already checked out, the staff kindly offered us towels to help us dry off and had umbrellas available, which we truly appreciated. They spoke English well, smiled all the time and were genuinely nice! The location was lovely and peaceful. The hotel is right across the river, with a beautiful walking path in front where you can enjoy the view and really appreciate the calm beauty of Kyoto. The area itself felt quiet and very family-friendly.Accessibility was excellent. The hotel is just a few steps away from the train station, making it an easy walk even for toddlers and senior companions. We also had no trouble booking DD or Uber, which made getting around very convenient.Overall, this is a great choice for families looking for space, comfort, warm service, and a peaceful Kyoto stay with beautiful surroundings.

The food was just okay overall. While breakfast was included, the selection was quite limited. That said, we did enjoy the DIY pancake station, the free drinks (coffee, soda, and juice), and the popsicles, which were a nice touch—especially for the kids.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and had a really nice time. The kids loved the bunk beds and were super happy. The staff were very kind and welcoming, which made the stay even better. Breakfast was really good, and it was a nice surprise to have local traditional New Year’s foods. The location is also great — not too far from Kyoto Station and close to Kiyomizu-dera Temple.

The only small downsides for me were that I personally prefer carpeted floors rather than wooden floors, and there weren’t any amenities specifically for kids. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this hotel, especially for families

Clean and comfortable, right next to the Kamo river. Also enjoyed bread and fluffy eggs for the breakfast.

I was a solo traveler, however I booked a twin room, because of my packing issue. It was really fine to use the kitchen and washing machine, also the drying system in the bathroom. The location is just in front of Kamo river and it is nearby the subway, very convenient place to stay in Kyoto.

There were not so much choise to have for breakfast, also the place for breakfast is rather small. Some guests took something like toast and drink there to bring their room because there were not so much to sit down when it was busy.

    - Nice hotel with good location. It's very close to Shichijo station a bit far from Kyoto station but still in walking distance.- Staffs were really nice to us all smiles and greetings every time.we requested more blanket and towel and they provided us easily. Everything was good and it was such a pleasure staying there.

    everything was fine

We (family of four) stayed in a very comfortable, spacious, and clean room looking out towards the river. The in-room washing machine was fantastic, and although we didn’t cook, it was nice to have the full fridge and freezer. One must hang clothes in the bathroom, close the door, and press the “heated air” button to dry one’s clothes. This took longer than a regular dryer, but worked well enough for us. Plenty of outlets for charging phones, devices, etc.Breakfast (included in the price) was sufficient and the coffee/soft drinks available beyond breakfast hours was quite nice, as were the popsicles for the kids. Easy walk (4-5 minutes) to the nearest subway station, and you could even walk to the hotel from Kyoto Station. We did, but on the way back we had the front desk summon a taxi for us. The staff members here were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend this place to others.

Everything was wonderful. No complaints at all.

We loved how nice the staff are. They go above and beyond to help in every way. Our family room was huge to Japanese standards, with an amazing bath/shower area. Nice little balcony. Breakfast was satisfying and a very nice lady working there is so sweet and helpful. We truly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Will definitely come back here and recommend it to all my friends.

Location was a a little bit away from the nearest convenience store. Not too far by no means but closest 7-eleven and family Mart is about 0.2 miles away and Lawson is 0.4. Again, close enough, just not a few feet away.

Free breakfast was included which was a plus. Tasted great although it's the same breakfast food daily. We got the large family suite with two beds and two bunk beds. It was a fairly large space for Kyoto. There was a little kitchen which we didn't use but it was nice to have. Washing machine was a definite big plus, it's great we can wash our clothes and dry it in the bathroom/wet room. There was even a "dry function" built into the bathroom panel. Clothes dried overnight. We did a lot of laundry for our long stay. We had a balcony but we didn't go out in it; it was a small space. I'm glad there was no carpet but nice squares of tatami mat-like material which is easier to keep clean. Price was great because we booked very early. Housekeeping came every 3-4 days, and daily clean towels were also very nice. Room was clean and I think the walls kept sound out (at least our apt). Staff was friendly and helpful. Hotel was in the middle of metro two stations, both were 6-7 mins walk to the station. 20-25 min walk to JR Kyoto Station. Taxi was a 10min ride to JR Kyoto Station, avg. 1200-1500 yen.

We had the family suite/room with beds and bunk beds. I had hit my head on the bunk bed above me at least 6 times throughout my stay but that is my own fault/problem. Otherwise, everything was very good.

This stay offers excellent value for money. The location is unbeatable, situated near the train station, making travel incredibly convenient. The room was impressive—spotlessly clean and well-maintained. The breakfast is good. To top it off, the staff was wonderful and very accommodating. Highly recommended!

Strategic location, very near to the metro station. Very cute neighborhood extremely close to Gion, the geisha district. We have actually spotted geishas nearby. Our room was spacious full with amenities, including an air humidifier. The beds were very comfortable. The room had a good style. It made us feel home. The staff was very kind.

The breakfast was very plain, there was no fresh fruits available at all, there was no variety, and the room was unpleasant because it was too small and crowded. The air conditioner didn’t work right.

    9ErikaPosted on: 11-20-2025

great breakfast, helpful front desk staff, good location, comfy beds

the washing machine in our room smelled awful when we opened it up after a wash cycle

    9AllisonPosted on: 11-18-2025

The location was great and the staff was so helpful. 5 minute walk to a metro station. The breakfast was adequate. We enjoyed the use of the bikes. Pajamas and toothbrushes, slippers, razors and hair bands were all provided. The included washing machine was so convenient and the bathroom acts like a dryer to dry all of your clothes. We spent 5 nights.
