    Pros +

    • The building was secure. There was a nice restaurant around the corner from the hotel. There is an archery place in front of the hotel.
    • Room was so big for a Japanese hotel and the bed was not super firm like most beds in Japan!
    • Kizashi The Suite was absolutely amazing! The room was perfect with comfortable beds, a gorgeous zen garden, a large wooden soaking tub, and tastefully decorated in tradtional Japanese decor with modern amenities. The location was also perfect in the Gion district within walking distance to many restaurants, Yasaka Shrine, and Kiyomizu Temple. We will definitely stay there again and will book our next trip around our stay at Kizashi!

    Cons -

    • The carpets in the room had stains of many different colors and shapes. The hot tub did not work. There was no “western” breakfast option. We were served a plant based breakfast suitable for Buddhist monks.
    • The hallway smelled of smoke
    • Staff - barely speaks English, most are unprofessional. In general it is ok, Executive Suite is very big, few rooms, jacuzzi, etc. It is outdated though. Nice traditional breakfast, fully vegetarian

    Size, location, clean, staff, bath.

No windows, we didn't like the breakfast. Breakfast is late and in the appointment. We were 4th floor, the elevator always stops at 3th.only one bath and one toilets.

A beautiful suite and lovely boutique feel. The location couldn’t be better in Gion district. The bathroom was awesome and bed excellent. Unexpectedly there was a separate room to meditate and an outdoor rock garden just for the room. I used this location as a base and did daily trips to Nara and Hiroshima.

I didn’t like not having a choice for a western breakfast. I tried the Japanese one the first day but not to my test. It’s such an upscale place it’s surprising I couldn’t get a couple of eggs. I ended eating at Tullys for a small egg sandwich

Breakfast was fantastic. Traditional Japanese vegetarian. Served like in a Ryokan. 99% of the staff were incredible.

The lighting was mood lighting. We prefer more light.

Location was perfect to see the Gion. Breakfast was so interesting , beautiful & delicious. Keiko , staff member made the visit worthwhile.

Place was probably very nice years ago but was quite rundown. Entrance was very unnerving down a dark hall to elevators. Carpets were stained. Wood was banged up. Did not look like the pictures on booking. Com. Other staff members were blasé and couldn’t be bothered.

    Poor

The location is great, but the property has definitely seen better days. Don’t be misled by the Michelin Red Pavilions being awarded nearly 10 years ago (according to the description) - it seems like the place hasn’t been updated since. At best, it gives off the feel of a cheap motel. The rooms were dusty and dirty, no proper windows, crowded with lamps, and the breakfast kaiseki meal was inedible (and there was a hair in it).

Reading all the reviews, I was wondering but I could tell from the pictures that the ambience was very lovely and it didn't disappoint. We loved our private hot bath. The breakfast was delicious and so Japanese - how can you complain about it- it was everything that Japan is about. We loved eating it in our tatami room. Also, the size of the room was very generous compare to all the places we stayed in! This was the biggest room. So what it had a few stains on the carpet. Also the location was excellent - right next to Gion and buz but the hotel was quiet. So overall we stayed in many places in Japan, and we loved this one the most.

Nothing, it was overall a great Japanese experience.

Person in adjacent room smoking and it did come into our room on occasions

Wonderful location, lovely room, pleasant staff and a great Japanese breakfast delivered to the room. Very enjoyable.

Greatly located in the Gion area nearby shopping, restaurants and some many tourist attractions.Apartment was very spacious and traditional. They even bring you a very traditional breakfast to the run.

    All great at this stay.

Loved the suite, large apartment with great wooden bath. Fab location.

Smoking area on 2nd floor internal staircase was not nice as smoke smelt outside your suite.

We initially were hesitant to book due to the mixed reviews but are SO happy we did! The location could not be better, you are literally on the Main Street in Gion with so much on your door step. The room was massive, the bed was so comfy, the tower and tub were great. There are lots of toiletries included in the room and a complimentary fridge full of drinks. I agree that some features were a little outdated and yes, there are some stains on the carpet in the room but this is minimal compared to everything else it offers. If you are a traveler who is used to luxury and relying on concierge to make a lot of your reservations and making recommendations you might struggle a bit. For the price we paid I thought this hotel was amazing value and are so happy we stayedf!

The location was amazing! We had ample space in our 100sqm room with a mix of traditional and western bedding for our family with teenage children. We had a room with a wooden Japanese bath and after a huge walking day, nothing was better than getting into the wooden bath to soak.

If I had to pick one thing, it would be access to English speaking TV i.e a news channel.

Our suite was extremely comfortable, loved our stay

No laundry facilities and closest laundry mat wasn’t within walking distance, huge let down

    5ThomasPosted on: 11-14-2024

    Location

Room smelt of vinegar, stale air. Carpet was stained all over the place making it feel dingy.

    9LeannPosted on: 11-13-2024

The hotel was a great location. Staff was very helpful with everything we needed, including finding cars to bring us to the train station w/our luggage. The breakfast was brought to our room and was a wonderful example of a Japanese breakfast. It was quiet and comfortable.

There is not anything that I would change. As I stated the staff was very kind and friendly. Communication was easy. The room was comfortable, the hotel was quiet and the location was good.

    10MartinPosted on: 8-14-2024

Very comfortable beds and beautiful Japanese interior design.

While the carpet had a few bleach stains as did the bedroom lounge chairs this in no way detracted from our overall enjoyment of our room.
