    Pros +

    • Beautiful hotel but was surprised by how urban the surrounding area was. Window view from my sixth floor room looked out onto the roof of an apartment complex with clothes hanging out on the balconies to dry. Not the most appealing view but with the shades drawn I could pretend it wasn’t a big deal. Customer service was superb and the rooftop was great first thing in the morning as I had it all to myself on a crisp cool morning. There were no seats the first time I ventured up there. Was able to wash all my laundry in the basement and hang dry everything in my room. Complimentary coffee drinks on the ninth floor were nice too. I’d stay here again and would rate even higher if I had a nicer view.
    • Seating area, comfortable beds. Spacious bathroom and tub. The rooftop terrace was spectacular and a complimentary beverage was appreciated.
    • One of the best hotels that I've ever stayed at, hands down. Our room was lovely, well appointed and incredibly comfortable. All of the little touches, from the snacks to the toiletries to the in room tea and coffee service were spot on. The rooftop terrace was such an incredible bonus, especially the foot bath and free happy hour drink. The onsen was just perfect in every way. I don't think the location could be any better - it was right in the heart of everything. I would absolutely stay here again!

    Cons -

    • Very small entry. Tight quarters around bed area. Amenities in bathroom should include a creamy body lotion, not the watery "lotion" that was available.
    • The view from our room was not anything to write home about, but a small detail in an otherwise perfect experience. Everything else was exceptional.
    • The smallest thing- the shower head could not be moved so sprayed directly out, hard to not get your hair wet.

In a beautiful area. Hotel is modern and comfortable. Loved the thoughtfulness of everything in the room. The room was small but I think that’s normal for this area. Read the pamphlet handed out at check in and it gives you little tips like how you can store your suitcase under the bed (there is a special cut out area) to save space. Given complementary drinks to use during our stay that is served on the rooftop bar. It was extremely cold when we were there but they have blankets and jackets you can use. Note, that there is no inside area on the rooftop top bar. Another thing to keep in mind are when using the onsens, you cannot wear togs (or anything). You cannot check in before 3 but they will happily store your bags for you and even take them up to your room.

The smallest thing- the shower head could not be moved so sprayed directly out, hard to not get your hair wet.

Wonderful hotel! Located perfectly between new and old Kyoto, beautiful rooms and all property, Nice roof top bar. with free welcome drink. The best of the best - ONSENS! they have 3 different onsen. One is white bubble jacuzzi style and 2 more are open air - one has the garden and second has panoramic view of Kyoto. Great relax in deep , worm , super clean water! I was there every day of my trip. Rooms have special yukata and of course tabi and socks and slipper and pajama.. everything you need. All crew is super nice. I could write much longer, but better come and see! it worth it.

Nice location in Gion along the river and subway, right across from Takashimaya department store. Plenty of shops/restaurants. Small, but beautifully appointed rooms with deep Japanese tub. Lounge provided drinks and frozen sweets. Staff helpful and prompt. Onsen was nice and large, especially the indoor/outdoor one with a relaxing bubble pool and deeper areas.

Storage and space in room was at a premium, again typical for Japan.

Everything was amazing! We stayed in a corner suite with private Onsen and view of the mountains. The staff was so helpful, kind and professional. The location was perfect, nestled close to a sweet stream and the river just one block away. Plenty of restaurants nearby. Near the subway! I would stay here again for sure and recommend to my friends and family who are looking for a perfect Kyoto experience.

Like the location, the staff, the freeflow mini bar with lots of varieties in the lobby.

The lift took so long. The cleaner forgot to change the plastic in the bin. Small room but with compact facilities (they left it open)

Amazing hotel and service!.The onsen is clean and very relaxing. The rooms are beautifully made up. Lots of attention to detail from the self service coffee station, drink station, and ice cream refrigerator to the terrace bar area and foot onsen. Our stay was magical! I didn't want to leave. The location of the hotel in Kyoto is also close to the major shopping area, Nishiki Market, and a short walk to Gion. This will be our stay of choice anytime we are back in Kyoto.

Stunning views of the city from the rooftop bar, great onsen, clean, friendly staff

The room was larger than I anticipated. The bed and shower were fantastic. The location was excellent. Staff was great.

Great location, easy access to trasport, food, shopping and sites. Amazing roof top bar with views and foot onsen. Was an added bonus after long days of walking. Apprecaited the free drink at the roof top to soak up the waters and view.

There can be a little street noise with loud cars driving by but stops later in the evening so wasn't a problem in the end.

    10ShanaiaPosted on: 11-19-2025

Super warm and cozy vibes here, and suuuper nice onsens to enjoy. The rooftop patio had the best view of kyoto! Very nice touches with the free popsicles, drink machine, and coats available on the terrace.

As a first time solo traveler to Japan I had the most amazing and relaxing experience staying at Sora Niwa Terrace Kyoto. From the friendly staff to the rooftop bar and onsen looking over Kyoto’s beautiful landscape I found myself not wanting to leave and will definitely go back. The room I had was perfect with every amenity I needed and more than I could even imagine or was aware of having. One of my favorite things was the yukata robes provided in the room that you could wear around the hotel and even outside. The room is also decorated beautifully and everything from the bed to the shower was luxurious and comfortable, I am 6 foot 4 inches tall (193 cm) and not issues with the size of the room or bathroom in fact it was larger than I expected from my other hotels in my trip. Having the hotel onsen open early in morning to later in the evening did wonders for my body after walking up 25,000 steps each day I would start and end my day in a warm soothing onsen. The facilities were top notch and the staff were very accommodating and it made for the most harmonious and pleasant stay.

    I wish I stayed longer.

The layout of the room was amazing, the staff were incredibly kind, and the hotel was in the perfect location for sight seeing.

There was nothing I didn’t like.

Very well maintained. Nice amenities in the lobby with snacks and drinks. Beautiful terrace with great view of the river and city all while resting your feet in a warm mineral bath. A free drink was also included.

The room was a bit small.

Perfect location. Pretty nice facilities. Best service. Love their onsen and kimonos.

The room is quite small so we had to navigate creatively with our luggages. But eventually it worked.
