    Pros +

    • The service - the hotel staff will go out of their way to help and ensure that guests are completely satisfied.
    • Everything was truly exceptional, from the hotel's amenities and the spacious, comfortable room to the delightful staff. We felt incredibly welcomed. I would also like to express particular appreciation for a male staff member, who wore glasses, and who assisted us in the morning with our check-out and continued to help us until we were in our Uber. His service and amiable demeanor were truly outstanding.
    • overall property was a vintage charm, with rich history. paid Dinner was top notch + included breakfast spread was delicious. Overall high customer service in quaint, cool space.

    Cons -

    • I didn?t love our room - it was tough to walk up to the 3rd floor after a long day of walking. The room was dark and the windows were frosted and you can hear everything happening up and down the street.
    • Excelled in every way, it was the highlight of our trip.

Beautiful and spacious room, wonderful friendly staff, very nice amenities.

Food was delicious! The common areas you can enjoy are hushed, comfortable, warm. Coffee bar was excellent, and the complimentary snacks and beverages throughout the day were so thoughtful, we really enjoyed the hospitality. Those miso mini loaf slices! The flan! The wine on tap! The simplicity of the room, the unique history, the guided welcome tour, the fact that staff remembered your faces and knew your room number, and the genuine warmth staff showed toward our one-year old. We will be returning. Sigh, it was a dream!

Excelled in every way, it was the highlight of our trip.

A truly gorgeous house-it feels like a family home. The staff are amazing, and the atmosphere is calm and comforting. I didn’t even feel like walking around the city, I just wanted to sit in the lobby with a cup of tea, a slice of miso cake, and soft jazz playing in the background. It’s our second stay, and this place has definitely become our regular spot in Kyoto.

the hotel was beautiful and just what i wanted to surprise my ultra nerdy husband with on our honeymoon!! such a lush, comfortable stay with very accommodating staff and the library was to die for. would absolutely love to stay again!!

Marufukuro is by far the best accommodation experience we've ever had. Absolutely the highlight of our time in Japan. Whether it's the history surrounding the building, the beautiful and convenient location, the amazing amenities, or the extraordinary staff, there is so much to love and appreciate about this place.I stayed here with my now fiancée and prior to my stay I worked with the staff to plan my proposal at this hotel. To say they went above and beyond is an understatement. Thanks to them, absolutely everything about our stay and the proposal was simply perfect. I can not even begin to thank all the staff at Marufukuro enough for everything they did to make our stay truly special. We will definitely be staying here again in the future!

The staff were outstanding and extremely attentive. Always pleased to serve to the best of their ability in typical Japanese style. Language was not a barrier for Brits because all understood but not necessarily fluent. Japanese and Western breakfast options available, with the Western a little limited because it is a relatively small hotel. All have access to what could be considered a Club Lounge with free drinks (beer, wine and softies) and snacks during the day plus a make your own cocktails bar in the evening. There were also 5 or 6 whiskey options to choose from. Very enjoyable for 4 night stay.

    all different lounges are awesome

night snack menu and breakfast menu(japanese) need to be changed daily. same menu and meals while staying. …

We stayed here for one night as a special treat, but wish we could have stayed longer. This hotel is in a former Nintendo office and warehouse and there are subtle nods to Nintendo throughout the building. The staff are very happy to help. The rooms are immaculate and roomy and the vibe is phenomenal. Wholly recommend!

A wonderful relaxing stay with class and elegance and lovely surprises along the way. A beautiful historical building with a ton of charm and the opportunity to stay in the residence of the Nintendo founder and second CEO.

    10BrycePosted on: 2-20-2025

Very friendly staff! The hotel itself is absolutely gorgeous and the rooms were very clean! The free bar and library are an amazing extra also.

The receptionist was really professional. When he found out I’m a big Nintendo fan, he recommended a room with lots of Nintendo touches. He also took the time to share some history about the building and details about the room. On top of that, his effortless charm made him a true gentleman. It was a fantastic place.

Classy. Cozy. Great ambience with good design. Good outlook. Excellent food and beverage (no matter the paid breakfast or the complimentary 24-hour bar with great snacks like ham and sorbet). Offering a good mood and atmosphere related to Nintendo (as a former office).

I expected more elements of Nintendo (e.g. historic pictures, decade-ago working documents regarding game design, introduction/history sharing through more decorations or a page on TV menu) than only a library. Also, I would expect more connections with other Nintendo spots (for example, this is a Nintendo trip for me, which I headed to Nintendo Museum and USJ after checking out from this hotel. That would be great if there could be a shuttle bus or at least a general map or suggested routes provided by the hotel but there's not. That would be even greater if the hotel would consider having partnership promotion with other Nintendo spots and provide combo options.)

Everything was superb, great service with high attention to detail, comfortable room with high quality amenities, the generous stocking of free flow mini bar of specially curated local offerings was amazing. It’s great for a quiet getaway and close enough to a commute on foot/train/bus to where you want to have more interactions with different aspects of what Kyoto has to offer.

Beautiful location by the Kamo river, makes you feel like you’re living the zen Kyoto life. The staff is excellent and goes above and beyond to ensure a comfortable stay (shout out to Cho-san for his kindness and ever present smile). The complimentary in room amenities are very generous. And of course, being Nintendo we loved winding down in the Library Bar after the days exploring was done.

There were construction noises during the day as there are works happening right opposite the hotel.

Marufukuro is a beautifully appointed hotel in a quiet neighbourhood of Kyoto. It is close to buses and subway stations and is about 20 mins walk from Kyoto main station so it is a very convenient location. The hotel is decorated with classic mid century modern furniture and has retained much of the original features of the Nintendo offices. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here, the guest only lounge is a relaxing space to spend an evening and the bed was the most comfortable of our entire trip. The rooms are very spacious compared to average Japanese hotel rooms. It is at a higher price point than we are usually comfortable with but as it was a special occasion for us we splashed out. Everything is luxurious and well considered, so the pricing does reflect the offering. There are snacks and beverages offered at no extra cost and various amenities available including complimentary access to a local onsen. Staff were a delight to deal with and were very helpful.

Easy walk from Kyoto station (10mins), quiet area but still has everything you need close by. Staff were amazing and friendly. The room was massive and so was the bed. The things included with your room, amazing!

The pillows would probably be the only complaint, but still managed to sleep. Just not the style I prefer.
