    Pros +

    • Kyoto Itoya Hotel was easily the highlight of our stay across Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo. The room was spacious even with luggage fully opened, the bathroom was clean and well sized, the bed was genuinely comfortable and four pillows felt like luxury. While the location required longer train rides and a bit of walking, the quiet streets and meticulous, thoughtful service made it more than worth it.
    • We loved this hotel, it was clean, nicely decorated with such a nice feel to it. Location was great, such a good little neighborhood with small cafes and shops all close by. The staff was so friendly and helpful. This was such a great choice for us.
    • The hotel staff went above and beyond to help us. We left some goods at the hotel and they were kind enough to send it via Yamato to our next hotel (at our expense of course).Cristian was particularly helpful. We were really glad with his help, care and dedication.

    Cons -

    • The only real drawbacks were its tucked away alley location and the fifteen minute walk from the station. The lift also stops only on even floors, so our odd floor room meant an extra flight of stairs, but beyond that, it was easily the best stay of our Japan trip.
    • Everything was great but our one recommendation would be to have more storage in the rooms for clothes and luggage.
    • Nothing, I would stay here again!

The location was great, very friendly staff, and cozy boutique hotel

Everything was great but our one recommendation would be to have more storage in the rooms for clothes and luggage.

I LOVED this property. We booked the "basement" though it never once felt like a basement. It had a beautiful little patio with a firepit and the bedroom was so spacious and comfortable. This is the perfect hotel if you are traveling in a group of four, as it was plenty of space for our suitcases and the two beds were quite large! I love that the shower and toilet are also separate so no one is left waiting to get ready or use the restroom while the other is in there. The customer service is also top notch! Everyone was super sweet and welcoming. They were extremely accomodating and even held out bags for the day we were leaving since we had some time to spend after check out! I highly highly recommend this place. It's not far to all the attractions in Kyoto and I loved how peaceful and quiet it was.

Nothing, I would stay here again!

Really stylish and elegant hotels, very spacious too. Staff was really helpful (they arranged the transfer of our suitcases to Tokyo and coordinated with our hotel there to receive and store our luggage). Walkable distance to most sights. Really interesting neughborhood which still has local vibe.

Room was very spacious and staff was friendly and helpful.

Hot water during shower was very inconsistent and sometimes took awhile. Some parts of the room just looked really tacky/unfurnished.

I highly highly recommend this hotel. Everything was perfect, the people at the reception spoke English, helpful, really nice… everything was perfect. The location was close to few buses less to the metro but after 4 days there we understood the buses are the way to go anyway.

Nothing, perfect. A little tip for the hotel maybe, add some hooks in the bathroom for the towels.

Nice boutique hotel, the room was well laid out and efficient, great shower. Nice to have umbrellas provided as it rained a bit while we were there. Breakfast quality was good, you don't really get a choice on what you get, but all things we had were well prepared and tasty. Nice location to the subway lines, only 10 minutes to get from the hotel to Kyoto station (walking and 1 stop 2 minute subway ride). Short walk to Nishiki market, and maybe 20 minutes to Gion area.

    Overall very nice.

    A little far from subway

There are a lot of design details for this hotel. We were surprised in a good way. Room was very clean and comfortable. We ordered breakfast for one day and they are well prepared and tasty. Can totally recommend this hotel.

Location is not in the center center. But still there are plenty of restaurants to go nearby.

    10NicolePosted on: 7-26-2025

Everything was so clean and premium! The location was perfect, walking distance to a couple of subway lines and bus lines. The staff was so nice and helpful. They made our stay in Kyoto incredible. We just kept saying how amazing our experience was. Highly recommend!

No laundry, but there’s a coin operated option down the road.

If you enjoy boutique hotels over corporate chains and appreciate a warm, homey atmosphere, this one comes highly recommended. It is uniquely designed, spacious, and exceptionally clean—just like in the photos. The beds were very comfortable, and we truly felt at home during our stay. We also really appreciated the excellent service and support from the hotel staff. It offers great value for money. While it's about a 10-minute walk to the nearest train station, if you're comfortable with walking, the location is perfect. The neighborhood is charming, with plenty of fantastic local restaurants nearby. We would absolutely recommend this place and would love to stay here again!

Very nice shower and bathroom and strong water pressure

We were checked into a 2nd fl room which is next to the smoking area. The front desk was able to honor my request to switch to a higher fl due to my health situation. Suggest to eliminate or move the smoking area to outside of the hotel

Great space that had everything we needed for a family of 4. Perfect location that was central to main city attractions. Staff was great and very helpful.

We loved this hotel! The staff was so friendly and helpful. Before arrival we had asked if they could accommodate a vegetarian meal and they were more than helpful to. -The breakfast was delicious every morning and I wish all of our hotels had this feature. It was so nice to not eat yogurt and edamame/fruit from the konbini and instead have a real, warm meal. Even though it was just the two of us, we splurged on a larger room. -A lot of hotels in Japan have really close twin beds and since I was traveling with my teenage kid, I wanted us to have more space. We loved having a dining table and couch. And it felt like we had an apartment for a few days, we loved it! Very close to subway and bus stops and lots of restaurants within walking distance. The room was very quiet and the natural light was great.

My only tiny complaint, and this could just be because I'm accident prone, is that there is a step up in the sink/shower area. -But it is a few feet in not at the door. It is easy to forget that it is there, so just be careful not to trip. Other than that and maybe a few extra places to hang towels, we loved this hotel and would definitely stay again!

My family had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The room was absolutely excellent—comfortable, beautifully designed and spotlessly clean. The front desk staff were extremely approachable and helpful, making check-in and any questions a breeze. They provided prompt responses to my inquiries months before our check-in date.Location- short walk to a bus stop and subway station
