Mogana was both clean and beautiful. It had the most comfortable bed, most spacious room, and the most luxurious shower area. The staff was also very nice. Would 100% stay here again, plus it was in great location!

This is a total gem of a hotel! Nice size rooms are artfully appointed; easy walking to many amenities and sites. Quiet street. Amazing breakfasts that were beautiful and delicious - we were sorry not to be able to eat it all! We would return 100%.

    Nothing!

Quiet, decor was very modern which I appreciated. Area was remote, so we saw an everyday stores and restaurants.

Clean. Gorgeous interior design. Good location. Room was big. Quiet and relaxing.

A bit expensive. Besides that, no complaints.

Good location in Kyoto, very spacious bed and comfortable facilities. The washroom was also beautiful. The provided pyjamas were quite small however. The stay was wonderful.

Not sure there's anything that we didn't like to be honest.

The room size at Mogana is spacious unlike other hotels in Kyoto, enjoyed the roomier en suite bathroom, especially the shower and bath tub , bery generous space

There are no facilities in this hotel, this is more like an inn, located in the residential area

    10JAMESPosted on: 11-9-2025

Awesome room. The size was unlike any Japanese Hotel. The regular rooms are about the size of a suite at any other Japanese Hotel. The rooms were clean, bed comfortable and showers were strong and clean

The location was excellent - near several bus lines and excellent restaurants. The room was spacious and clean- extremely modern with minimal color (all white with a small amount of red)

The bathtub was slate and giant. Took forever to fill and the water got cold really quickly.

The hotel is beautiful! Very intentional with the layout and the welcome drinks were a nice touch! The breakfast was great as well and they accommodated our bags!

There’s no TV in the room and yes I understand it’s for relaxation just a note, if you like to unwind with Tv. There’s also no restaurant so they do partner with other restaurants to bring you food! I also did not see a spa so that’s interesting if you claim to be a relaxation hotel

Best hotel in japan Great staffComfort rooms Great service.

The hotel room features modern design with minimalist decor and was very spacious. Each morning, a different kind of breakfast was delivered to our room at our chosen time, beautifully arranged like a piece of art. The staff were welcoming, offering excellent local dining recommendations and even making reservations on our behalf. Notably, all staff were elegantly dressed in clothing designed by the renowned Miyake Issey.

Room space was good for kyoto standard and transportation was easy

The hotel has an incredible design; the rooms are spacious and well-organized. However, it is not a five-star hotel, starting with the service, which leaves much to be desired—especially by Japanese standards and compared to other hotels we've stayed at in Japan. Only two staff members spoke English and were able to communicate with us. One staff member was consistently rude and unhelpful, making us feel unwelcome from the moment we arrived. His responses to any request were always negative.Additionally, there was a billing error at checkout, and we had to wait for it to be reviewed and corrected. We saw the same issue happen with another guest. As if the poor service wasn’t enough, the hotel charges 2,000 yen for any lost room key, something they never mentioned in advance. When we asked, they simply told us it was in the “hotel rules,” which we were expected to read. The cleanliness was unacceptable: for four days, dirty glasses were left in the room until we called to complain, the trash was not removed, and the drawers where we placed our clothes were full of dust—so our clothes ended up dusty too. The air conditioning works, but the vents blow directly onto the bed, making it impossible to use while sleeping. Also, the bathroom has no curtain, and light comes through from there.Lastly, there is no restaurant in the hotel, room service only offers three options, and breakfast must be ordered two days in advance so the chef can prepare it.I usually don’t leave reviews, especially negative ones, but this was the worst experience we’ve had in Japan.

Incredible and attentive staff. They helped me with my Low Fodmap diet: gluten and dairy free and any other requirements I needed. They also were super kind and helpful. The hotel is incredibly clean, with great decor and ambience. Made our honeymoon super special!

The property/building is beautiful. The design of the building is fantastic, gorgeous Bonsai. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Super super clean, which is very important so would give the hotel a good review overall.

However, the breakfast, not great. You have two choices - Japanese or Western. We tried both and we hardly ate either. Don't misunderstand, there was a lot of effort put into the breakfast, all handmade, lots of variety, but food not to our liking and I would consider us to not be fussy eaters. Lots of vegetables and soup for the Western which is not quite what we prefer. They come to your room to set it all up, but as there are so many dishes, it is all cold by the time they leave, including the coffee, which was a downer for all the effort put in tot make all the food. Plus, the room design also beautiful, but no so functional. The binds don't cover the cracks in the windows, so the sun shines right into the room and because there is no door on the washroom, the sun shines right in there also. I guess we should get up with the sun to enjoy all Kyoto has to offer (!), but.... we needed to sleep a bit longer so this was a disadvantage, I wouldn't;t stay here again as the breakfast and room comfort is paramount, but other than that - and no gym for. a 5*, but if that's not so important for you, then a beautiful looking hotel to stay in.

Great location, very stylish yet comfortable, super quiet and serving an excellent breakfast!

    No complaints at all.
