Location, staff and accommodation

The location for transportation, food and places to go was great. The hotel was spotless and the staff helpful and friendly. It had a private bathroom.

No private shower/bath.

Very nice experience: the Japanese setting of the rooms, the sense of privacy at the hotel and the professional staff contributed to make our stay a memorable one.Great Location, just in front of Honnoji temple and walking distance to many shops and restaurants.

Beautiful hotel right in the centre of Kyoto and walking distance to everything central Kyoto has to offer. Train station is a few minutes walk and bus stop and taxi rank right around the corner offering easy access to all the sight seeing spots. The staff was super friendly and could communicate in English. The hotel room and all other facilities were very clean and well maintained. Traditional Japanese room was beautiful and fitted our family of four comfortably. The view from the room was great. The onsen on the top floor is a bonus and very relaxing with great views of Kyoto. Would highly recommend.

A wonderful stay at Hotel Honnoji! Excellent bathhouse facilities, a very clean and comfortable room, and very convenient location. Also, the meal experience was absolutely wonderful!

There was nothing that we did not like!

Lovely onsen, clean and well maintained. Nice top floor.

Some travelers don’t respect onsen rules and get in without showering or disrobing. It’s rude and gross.

Great service and convenient location. The staff are especially courteous. We also enjoyed the traditional set dinner and breakfast. The public bath on the 9th floor is spacious and clean, with exceptional views

Very central location. It mixes some traditional aspects with contemporary amenities. We stayed in the Japanese room and it was very quiet. Value and expectations were met. Was great for hosting a family of 4. Loved the baths - very clean. Looked like the photos.

Breakfast was really delicious. Love the included Yukata rentals. Service was very good, very attentive.

Live cockroach in the spa area for women’s. It was trying to get into the wet areas.

Modern, decor, the room was very spacious. Very peaceful tatami rooms. Onsen was lovely, my favorite was the open air one. Not crowded at all. We reserved one morning for breakfast and it was amazing, one of the highlights of our Kyoto trip. Convenience store downstairs was perfect and luggage services were great. Subway super close. My only regret was not going to the temple behind the hotel.

Different sizes of slippers for rooms! My feet are US 11 women's and when I went to the staff to ask for slippers they only have the one size for the tatami room so I had to just wear clean socks on the tatami. I would bet money on if there are foreigners; like men or women with larger feet than me and they tried to wear those slippers they would not have fit and some bare feet have been on tatami lol. I don't mind but I would assume others would.

Room was really big and we felt japanese culture. All staffs were helpful and happy

Loved everything about it, the style of the interior, rooms layout, rental yukatas for woman I wished we had chose to stay there longer. Location is pretty good slightly further away from the Kyoto station but since we only had backpacks we had no issues.

If it was slightly cheaper we would have booked that place for our whole stay in Kyoto

Oh my, what an amazing place! Huge room. Initially sceptical about the sleeping on the floor futon arrangement, but actually incredibly comfortable. Beds set up by staff. Indoor footwear provided. Breakfast just incredible - Japanese style, varied each morning, no need for a large lunch later! Handy tip - learn about onsen entiquette before you head in... Great location opposite city hall, handy for metro station. Brillant. Loved it.

Public bath, location, beautiful lobby

Unexpected nice find, rooms were large and comfortable. Would have been happier with more nights here versus other hotels we stayed at in Kyoto.

I loved the public bath, was using it every day and caught it when it was completely empty. Kaiseki traditional dinner was excellent, but may be too adventurous for some westerners. Traditional breakfast was so filling, we had to take a nap. Excellent location too, right in front of city hall, walking distance to many tourist attractions and restaurants.

Somewhat pricey, but you get what you paid for. Being in front of city hall there were daily peaceful protests you could hear, but that's the price of democracy, and everyone would disperse before bedtime.

Great location, and a modern, clean hotel with a great staff! Could not have been better.

This property is truly amazing. So impeccably clean. The public bath was great, I wish I used it more. This was the most affordable property I stayed at during my visit to Japan, and it was the most enjoyable by far.

Extremely helpful staff. Assisted in our luggage delivery to not our next hotel but the one after. Called the luggage HelpDesk to confirm and stepped us through the process.They staff were polite and used their English very well to answer all our questions.

Couldn't quite find a fault. I did have some issues with the laundry machine but was able to work it out on my own.

Close to Gion short walk and a lovely quiet onsen open til midnight, fantastic after a long day walking and exploring.
