    • Super nice hotel, very cosy atmosphere where you can brew your coffee by yourself in the Coffee corner. The room is spacious with a nice balcony overlooking a nice Park. Hotel location is great and very easy to reach. The Onsen is so relaxing and spacious too. Staff are super friendly and cheerful. I highly recommend staying there and i will definitely come back.
    • This is the most beautiful hotel we have ever stayed at. So many amenities including the comfortable pajamas and slippers provided, the snacks, drinks and wonderful shampoo and conditioner. We had the best sleep here too!
    • I am very glad I booked this hotel when we stayed in Kyoto. Our room is spacious with a balcony having nice view of garden and park. I would remember the nice garden view even after we left the city. Hotel staffs are very polite and friendly. The breakfast is the best among several hotels we stayed during our trip. We also enjoyed the free drinks and snacks provided by the hotel. Overall, we have spent wonderful time in Kyoto in this place.

    Cons -

    • not really
    • Limited laundry machine
    • Only wish we could have continued to use the shared amenities after we checked out in the morning.

The various public area is seldom seen. Bathing, table tennis, self hand-brew coffee, LP record audio room, reading room, all these make you fell like to stay in the hotel instead of going out. The hotel is located 1 station from Kyoto station and quite accessible.

    not really

The room was clean and comfortable. The service was nice and the breakfast buffet was delicious. The location was walking distance from train station and bus stop.

Clean. Well maintained. It has several offering, like the drinking area, roof top, coffee place.

    Limited laundry machine

The hotel itself is great, super cozy lobby and rooms, great value for money, amazing views of nature as it is connected to a park, amazing and very thoughtful facilities (music room, free coffee and drinks, reading room etc) - the location is a bit far from the center (20 - 30 min by bus) however its a cozy area with both Family Mart and 7/11 minutes away by walking

Gorgeous property with thoughtfully curated spaces and amenities, stunning rooftop view, dreamy sento, comfortable beds & clothing, and daily drinks.

Only wish we could have continued to use the shared amenities after we checked out in the morning.

We stayed at this hotel for seven days in early November. The hotel is truly excellent. The room (Wood Flat Twin Room, which actually has a window) was beautiful, and the hotel facilities were also very good. The staff are friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel is perfect. It’s pleasantly quiet by the park, yet only a three-minute walk from the metro, a supermarket and Starbucks. Major sights are within a ten-minute walking distance. We walked to Kyoto Station in about 15 minutes. There are many more advantages to mention, such as free drip coffee, complimentary drinks, a wonderful view from the rooftop terrace, but then the review would become a bit too long. For the seven nights we paid €1.122 without breakfast, booked through booking.com (Netherlands). The hotel is highly recommended.

A small downside is that the room didn’t really have a wardrobe. There was also no space to store your suitcases, so we placed them against the wall.

The breakfast offers a great variety, including authentic Japanese dishes, which is a wonderful touch. The room is comfortable and well-appointed, and love the complimentary drinks and snacks available daily from 3pm onwards. The public onsen is a good size and very relaxing. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful, and the location is convenient—just a short 5-minute walk to the train station, only one stop from Kyoto Station.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel offered lots of great amenities. Very short walk to the train station. The pajamas were great. Nice neighborhood that didn't feel like a tourist center.

    Everything was great

Next to park, good breakfast, strong shower water flow, well maintained, friendly staff

Should clean the room and change bed sheets every other day.

The location is great. (we dont like to stay in the center of city, it is too noisy) This hotel is one station away from Kyoto Station. This is the perfect distance. Besides the museum, there is a playground next to the hotel. My kids love it.

We travel together with family members; we spent a great time in the hotel. However, the room is too small for us; we are 2 adults and 2 kids. I know we are in Kyoto, so I should not ask for too much.

This is probably one of the best hotels i've ever stayed in. It had a lot of leisure areas to talk and relax, plus the all you can drink soft drink, alcohol, and (morning to midday) coffe was great. I also enjoyed the rooftop terrace and music room. Truly wish I could've stayed longer. The location is also fantastic, right next to a station and the aquarium.

First of all, I would like to thank all of the staff. They were all very friendly, helpful and patient. I would like to thank Fujita-San and Akanishi-San for their warm welcome and help throughout my stays. 10/10 staff! They helped me in keeping my luggage when I was checking in and checking out. I saw a lot of family in the hotel with small kids, so this is definitely a kids friendly hotel.Location: Very strategic, only 1 station away from the main Kyoto Station. 4-6 minutes walk from Umekoji-Kyotonishi station. There's an interesting train cafe just next to the hotel, a convenient store and coffee shops are around 10 minutes walk away.Room: VERY CLEAN AND BIG. This is the biggest room I've experienced in Japan. Not only that, it's very clean and the staff will clean it for you. They prepared pajamas that you can wear inside the hotel vicinity. Baskets to bring your stuff to the public bath and onsen. All the amenities needed include rubber slippers, toothbrushes, face wash, etc. Water is refillable. They will give you a water container which you can fill up at the water station on every floor.Hotel in general: Everything is very clean, and each floor has their theme. I stayed at 5th floor and it has MOKU theme where you can write your notes on the wall about your ideas or where to travel in Japan and share it with other guests. 4th floor was the music floor, they have vinyl player whith varieties of records. They also hold coffee and drink hours on this floor. They will have free snacks on those hours as well. 2nd floor is a game room, they have table tennis and kids entertainment spot. 3rd floor is the book floor where you can read books there for free. (I might be mistaken on the floor configuration, but they have those themes). They have a cafe in the vicinity and a fermentation center where you can try Kyoto traditional fermented drinks! They have a public bath in the basement with few kinds of bath.

Located in a quiet side street. Next to a park and aquarium but rooms are so well sound proofed you wouldn’t be able to tell. 6 min walk from train station and bus stop.

Beds were a little hard for my taste.

    10AngelaPosted on: 10-3-2025

Quiet, away from the hustle and bustle, but close to trains and busses. The view overlooking the park was wonderful and we enjoyed coffee on our private deck every morning. The room was comfortable and the hotel amenities were plentiful. Staff were welcoming and kind.

It’s a minor inconvenience, but there wasn’t really a great place to hang bath towels.

Everything in this hotel exceeded our expectations—the staff, the room, the onsen, the dinner and breakfast, the neighborhood, everything. We've been to Japan many times, but Umekoji Potel is number one on our list. Would love to stay again next time.

    10VeronicaPosted on: 7-5-2025

10/10 no notes. Excellent service, top tier facilities, breakfast had a ton of options, and it’s really close to a local train station.

It’s farther from a lot of the most popular Kyoto spots, just be aware.

    9ShaPosted on: 7-3-2025

The public spaces are amazing! Lots of activities to do, reading books at the library, brewing your own coffee, listening to music, etc.

However, lots of kids… too noisy during the day.
