Wayfarer Hotel Kyoto Shijo

The room was spacious and staff kind. The vending machine outside was slightly cheaper than others around town. The shampoos were nice, my hair felt soft afterwards.

There were not as many amenities offered. I missed the instant coffee downstairs the first 2 days but that’s my fault for not looking. Only tea was in room.

Convenient and affordable, staff were friendly, great balcony/view and plenty of space and room.

Not enough laundry machines.

Good location! Close to many stations -lots of restaurants! Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Scooter and bikes at the doorstep. Free toiletries and pyjamas. Coin operated washer on-site.

Tatami room was very comfortable, clean and felt luxurious. The mattresses and blankets were so cozy.

From the photos I expected more of a kitchenette with some plates and utensils. Also, it would be helpful for guests to be able to park bicycles in the courtyard. Could hear guests in other rooms. I'm glad my room was not near the elevator.

Good location. Easy to check in. Room were comfortable.Reception staff, Grace, Elle and Dio were friendly and helpful.

The location is reasonably peaceful, and the check-in process is easy and intuitive.The room is not the biggest, but big enough for 3 people and all of the luggage.Plenty of power sockets all around the room - no worry about running out of electrical sockets.The check-in process seemed a little suspicious, but was very efficient and allows you to collect your room key before you even reach the property!Room is clean, and so is the rest of the property.

The location is really a bit far from the nearest train station. Granted it's a level walk, but along narrow streets that are often crowded with cars, bicycles and other vehicles. Taking the bus isn't an option, and taxis are expensive.There is a weirdly high step to get into the toilet/shower, and that is oddly positioned in the middle of the room.Water heater has limited capacity - not enough for 3 people to shower in sequence without at least a 15-20 mins break in-between.

We have stayed at the Wayfarer before and as before enjoyed our stay here. Accommodations were clean and comfortable and the staff was very pleasant and helpful.

Very friendly staff, great location and comfortable facilities

The staff were all sweet, helpful, caring, professional. The room was wonderful.

The washing/drying machines. The washing and drying is all done by the same machine and includes detergent and fabric softener and took 2 hours. I did a load for $4. However the drying is of poor quality so I had to do an extra 30 minutes with half the load twice. Which was another $1.50. Cheap enough. But still my clothes were damp, and I wasn’t able to spend the time continuing with another few 30 minute drying periods. So I laid them out in my room on the floor, and some on hangers. They dried overnight, mostly. The quality of the wash was also pretty poor. I noticed that some stains still remained, and the clothes just didn’t appear to be properly laundered. I was grateful they had laundry facilities and that the cost was quite inexpensive, but the quality of the laundered clothes and their dampness was surprising to me given modern technology. I think the hotel is fantastic in every way, but in order to really rise to the occasion it would be a great idea to invest in better machines.

Clean room, friendly staff, comfortable futons, and good AC. Having actual drying machines for our clothes was nice as well (despite being coin operated). Close to lots of stuff, so walking is viable.

There was a weird smell, but I was the only one who noticed it out of our 3 person group. The windows are not super sound insulated, so you can hear what's happening outside more clearly than I expected (did not impede sleep).

The location is ok for bus access, but if you are looking for next to the subway.

It is actually an apartment. Good size, very clean. There is microwave and laundry available in the ground floor.It is possible to pre-check in using an App. Receptionist is not available 24x7 but this is not a problem, as the a password is provided to access the room.

The location is not very close to a subway station. it requires at least a 10 min walk. It does not accept ta-q-bin but there is an Yamato distribution center in the same street very close to the building.

The guy at the front desk was super helpful and kind. The rooms were amazingly comfortable! Perfect size and the atmosphere in them were super cozy.

The washing machines were a little finicky but just had to dry an extra time or two.

The room was clean and very basic. It was first time we satayed in a tatami room. However the room had everything we needed and the price was great. The bathroom was a bit small, but nothibg unmanageable. It was cery good value for the money.

There were no chairs...so you need to lay down when you rest. But itnwas a tataminroom so it was expected :). Nothing was wrong.

Helpful staff, clean and convenient in location

The front staff speaks English which is very helpful and they were very kind. We were grateful to have an early check in provided. This location is fantastic with a mini fridge in room and great laundry facilities. We did the Japanese style family room....4 futons on Tatami. Not going to lie, that first night was rough for me figuring out how to sleep on a futon on the floor.. After that though, my body adjusted and I loved it! One teen loved it--one less so. Overall, this was a great stay with no regrets. They go above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable and helped us make dinner reservations, etc.

Simply, one of the best places I've been. Very stylish, everything is new and works amazing. You get the full experience of sleeping on futons put on the tatami floor. The bathroom is so nice. There is excellent wifi and diverse toiletries. Well located as well, in the geographic center of Kyoto, buses and trains to everywhere.

They charge the touristic tax upon check in, regardless if you paid the full reservation through Booking.

It's very spacious in comparison to most Japanese hotels! The staff is also incredibly english friendly, and the facilities offer multiple amenities. The futon option is also really comfortable!

The shower was a bit difficult to use, with the temperature being inconsistent while it ran. And the room only had 3 available outlets on one side of the room. The neighborhood is a bit noisy too.
