Pros +
- Comfortable bed, very clean rooms and great location close to attractions
- The buffet breakfast was quite typical for business hotels. The refresh frequency was sufficiently often. The wifi in the common areas the guest rooms were sufficiently fast for most uses. The hotels location was also good in that it was near the Sakura Machi mall where there are fast foods. We also frequented the pedestrian zone eateries that were a short walk from the hotel.
- Location is good as it is near a shopping district and near the trams and buses.
Cons -
- Though the coin laundry provided at the first floor was sufficient, a lot of guests were actually using it and it probably wouldn't hurt if additional machines were provided
- The washer and dryer. It would not dry very well with my laundry load.
- Parking: Off-site only. They just hand you a 100-yen discount coupon for a nearby plaza, which doesn’t really solve the inconvenience.Room: Misleading. It looked nothing like the photos — essentially a windowless box. With the hotel’s “dark theme,” the room was extremely dim even with every light switched on.Design flaw: The motion sensor in the corridor inside the room is awful. If more than one person is staying, the light keeps switching on for several minutes and disturbs sleep with no way to turn it off.

Nothing to highlight

Decent and clean. Location is good for starting to shop and station.
Air conditioner is not quite workable. Sometimes are too load.
The hotel is new and well situated near the bus station. It is also near two art museums so it is possible to walk to them.
The front desk staff were poor quality with rude behavior. Having traveled widely all over Japan during nine previous trips I am experienced when it comes to travel and hotels in Japan. The front desk staff at the Grids Hotel were not efficient or polite. There are many young people in Japan looking for jobs and the Grids Hotel would have no problem finding better staff for the front desk. Considering the high prices charged for the rooms, the front desk staff should be better quality. The hotel owner and manager should deal with this problem immediately.
The price for the quality of the room was amazing. Also the amenities and service were very good
The size of the room felt a little cramped but for the low price room we got it was very well worth it
Very modern and clean. The room was very compact but comfortable
Parking is far away which was a bit of a problem because it was raining really hard.
It’s really nice property in very convenient location.
The hall lights are operated by the motion sensor. It’s not convenient when one goes to the toilet in night and the second wakes up due to lights
Breakfast was one of the nicer ones I experienced on my trip with a mix of Japanese and a few Western options. There were a couple of tasty juices/beverages but I have no idea what they were--labeling of the food (at least in Japanese so I could translate it) would have been helpful. The lobby and laundry area were nice and the staff friendly/helpful. Lovely shower with good pressure.
So this is perhaps my fault for not paying closer attention when booking, but... There are at least 3 different room types in this hotel--maybe more. I was traveling with my adult daughter and booked a twin bed room and chose the least expensive of this type. This was the smallest room in our 2 week trip to Japan (10 bookings). I expected Japanese hotel rooms to be smaller than in the US, but this was almost impossible. There is no where to walk. We travel light with only carry-ons, but there was no surface to set anything or open your case. The room had a tiny window that had frosted glass. Looking at the hotel map on the inside of the door, it appears that there are only a few rooms such as ours that have no view and are that small, so just make sure you are aware of this when you book. If I was traveling alone, I wouldn't have minded, but then wouldn't have needed a twin room either.
We arrived at the hotel slight after midnight due to schedule of the train, the 24-hour front desk is helpful for us.
Very modern & clean. Rooms bigger than average for Japan. Nice lobby & helpful staff.
Maybe a bar - though not really important.
The hotel was clean and modern — my family and I really liked it!
During our trip, we happened to run into a large tour group from Taiwan. When waiting for the elevator, it took quite a while. It might be a good idea for tour groups to use just one elevator if possible, as it felt a bit chaotic when we first arrived.
The breakfast buffet was the best we have had during our trip in Japan. Many options, from Asian to Western. The room and bathroom were also quite big and modern. The location was also good, a 20-minute walk to Kumamoto castle and there is a nearby bus station where a direct bus departures to the Aso Volcano. Also only a few minutes walking distance from the shopping street with many bars and restaurants.

The location is great and the room was big enough for 3 persons
We couldn't park our car at the hotel parking lot.
Location. Clean and comfortable room. Free coffee.
I could listen to all the noise from the toilet.
I left my backpack on a train before arriving. Not only did they better my and JR's efforts to track it down but the staff were so genuinely excited when it turned up that I was deeply moved by their kindness and engagement. Kumomoto is also a great base for touring the western side of Kyushu.
This is a relatively comfortable hotel in a good location, although the room we stayed in was a bit small.
The hotel is located on a busy main thoroughfare, with no place to unload or load bags. We arrived by car during the late afternoon rush hour and had to unload our bags while blocking one lane, stopped in a bus zone. Similarly, when bringing our car to the hotel to load our bags after checking out, the lane in front of the hotel was taken by two tour buses waiting for dozens of guests. I realize this isn't the hotel's fault, but it is inconvenient.
Very clean, good breakfast and modern.
The room was quite small and not being able to open the window made it a bit claustrophobic.
This Hotel has a very good price for the area it is situated in. The personal speaks very good english and the overall experience was good.If you arrive by car, the hotel has contracts with two nearby parking garages. There you pay 1200¥ for one night. You can get a breakfast buffet, but it was a bit expensive overall. The only flaw we experienced, was that the rain shower was a bit calcified, so it did not feel optimal. There is a second normal shower though so it was no problem.
