location was great for sightseeing- walking distance to Malick Ghat, Howrah bridge, and New Market, Ubers were always close. Room was clean, and amazingly quiet. Breakfast had 20+ dishes in beautiful setting. Service was prompt. Good value for price.

The continuity of the 5-star vision in every employee, every service and every aspect. With that being said, their treatment of us was ultimately above 5-star!

Other than the construction; which at this point is inevitable, there really was no complaint or reason for complaint. I have one suggestion and it regards the swimming pool, consider having it heated or temperature regulated.

The breakfast was comprehensive although there are different sections. The location is quite good and taxi's know the hotel. The beds were comfortable. We didn't use the pool but it looked nice.

The hotel is not up to 5 Star Standards. We booked a deluxe room and had to move 4 times for different reasons ( bad smell, smell of smoke, toilet seats are old and chipped) The hotel said they were fully booked. The next night were were able to be moved to a 'Heritage' room which was much better, higher standards and a lot better kept and cleaned. The hotel did try to accomodate. The male managers at the hotel and the porters are excellent, however the female front desk staff are not friendly, surly and give a very poor impression. They do not want to help but want to know what the issues are just to be curious. I think there are better hotels in Kolkata and if you really want 5 star best to find another. The doormen were welcoming and helpful. Foyer needs updating.

Weird noises in our room on a few occasions (sounded like rain drumming on the roof, but no rain), and one night maintenance men hammering something in the hall outside our room at midnight (went on for an hour, with loud chatter, until I finally came out and asked them to stop). Also, poor quality towels for such a high hotel.

Stayed in the Victorian tower suite. Room was great but the linen specially towels, old and worn out.

I liked everything about this hotel. Room service food was tasty and hygienic and certain special orders can be accommodated. Staff were professional and kind. Everything was comfortable.

This was my second stay at the hotel in 6 months, I was very happy with the room provided as it was much better than last time, and especially a comment of recognition for Ms. Adrija Kumar at the front desk who was excellent with the entire check in process. An asset to the company.

Check-in and check-out wasn't smooth. The reception staff doesn't know how to issue an itemized bill and all of them together got quite confused. The staff who delivered the meal inside the room brought someone else's food too. We told her she could just take it away. But first she had to make a few calls which she did standing in our room. Perhaps she had to get permission from the restaurant or something. The worst experience was of the lounge. Due to Durga Puja perhaps they had closed it. But no information was provided to us at check-in. The reception staff didn't even tell us what benefits do we get or what all we could access etc. So we were sent away from the lounge to the restaurant. Now someone came to help us out there but the guy had no intention of serving. He asked if we would like whiskey. We said we had come for high tea and would prefer some tea first. Then he brought us two cups of brewed tea, no extra sugar nothing, and some snacks. He never came back to ask us if we would like anything else. He just disappeared. We were supposed to be able to enjoy Happy Hours too. But none of the staff asked us or offered us anything. Why offer it in your package at all if you are so cringy?The room is functional but not aesthetic at all. All their windows have these wooden shutters that don't let you look out. I would always choose Taj over The Lalit. Stayed at both during Durga Puja. First time at Lalit, and a disappointing one.

3rd Clasa hospitality, Never selecting LALIT again, they need to learn Hospitality first.

This was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had, and I strongly advise others to think twice before booking here. I am writing to share my deeply frustrating experience with this hotel, which I hope will help others avoid similar issues.1. Staff behaviour and Attitude and Communication.From the start, the staff was anything but courteous. The only decent (aandho mei kana raja) person was Vishal, who spoke like someone actually working in hospitality. Everyone else — especially at the reception and reservations desk — was rude, dismissive, and seemed like they were doing me a favor just by answering the phone. Kriti and Rakhi were the worst along with one of the male reservation desk staff who did not even introduced him properly — completely unhelpful and spoke in an irritated tone throughout. Their attitude was particularly appalling. They seemed annoyed, impatient, and uninterested in addressing my concerns or providing clear information. This lack of courtesy and unwillingness to assist made what should have been a straightforward process unnecessarily stressful2. Confusing and Suspicious Payment HandlingMy first booking was made through Booking.com, where I received confirmation and saw a charge hold placed on my credit card. When I called the hotel initially, Vishal confirmed they had received the payment. However, after messaging through Booking.com, I was informed that the hotel had not received the payment.This contradiction was baffling. I called the hotel again and was transferred to a male staff member at the reservation desk who outright denied receiving any payment. He was visibly annoyed and repeatedly asked me to provide payment details, despite my explanation that the charge was held on my card and that Booking.com had confirmed the payment would be deducted at any time (Have a screenshot of the booking.com app saying that as well).After checking with my bank, I called the hotel once more to clarify.

Great property that retained the charm of the bygone era. Lovely staff who are already keen to go the extra mile

I was in the old rooms and while I liked it, there was always a smell emanating from the room, maybe the furniture that was musty

Their room service is inferior, I tried to order the food and they called me back after one and a half hours to take the order. I had to order medicine, and a concierge asked me to come down and pick up the medicine where i requested them to deliver the medicine to my room.As in Kolkata ; Dharmatola area maintain the road one way in different time and its very narrow road to enter into the hotel. and the outside area is full of junk people.

The old building room had no windows and was claustrophobic.It also smelt like unused for some time.
