This place was an absolute gem—100% recommend staying here! Spier Wine Estate nails the perfect getaway vibe: the staff are so friendly and helpful, they hand you a complimentary glass of wine when you check in, the room comes with a free minibar, and the breakfast is hearty and delicious. Every little thing made our stay feel special. We totally fell for this spot! Even better, the team can help book wine tastings for you—super convenient. And the minibar? It had two 200ml cans of rosé and two of Sauvignon Blanc—such a nice bonus that felt like great value. At this estate, just kick back, sip the good wine, and soak up the sunshine.

Beautiful and safe. Chic and comforting. What a place! Everything is at your fingertips while you stay here. Go for a long walks in nature, experience, wine, tasting, and beautiful food, slumber in cozy bedding,,,Spier has it all. Love my stay here and I’m looking forward to returning.

Free (good!!!) childcare at the “buzz club”, the rooms were super comfortable and clean, snacks for free in the mini fridge, turndown service, wine experience included, kind staff, beautiful grounds!! There wasn’t anything I didn’t like

Nothing, would stay here again 100%

Spier Farm and Spa is an exceptional destination, an incredibly beautiful property, with hospitality and service to match. I cannot fault any aspect of my experience at Spier Farm. We enjoyed incredible meals, the inclusive breakfast was outstanding, no short cuts are taken in any manner whatsoever. I took full advantage of the Spa facility, and quite honestly, it was the best Spa experience I have ever encountered. The Staff in all departments were amazing and genuinely took pride in their delivery of service. Thank you for an unbelievable stay. I would love to know the make of your beds, which were very comfortable. My very best wishes to all. For some reason Booking.com has listed me as being from the UK, we are in fact from Zimbabwe.

    Absolutely nothing

Spier is a beautiful estate which was renovated earlier this year. Staff is very helpful. The grounds are huge with loads of facilities and things to do.

The wine tasting felt a bit rushed and commercial (since it is so popular) - a more boutique experience would have been nice. Gym was well equipped but internally it didn't seem to have gotten the renovation the rest of the place got. All the different facilities seem to work in isolation from each other - for example we asked for some lemon slices while wine tasting and were told they don't have. We were also told there is a discount on wines bought from the shop for guests and when we asked a shop we were told we had to go to another shop to get it (which we didn't bother doing and paid the full price).

Complimentary room upgrade was a great surprise for my wife's 60th birthday! The staff were friendly & efficient. Arnu, one of the barmen, was exceptional. He knew his trade well and was interesting to talk to!

A lot of gardening work was planned outside our room starting at 7am! Grass cutting & trimming was undertaken whilst we tried to sit on our verandah after lunch. A lot of nail gun noise whilst trying to enjoy the pool environment. No do-not-disturb signs in either of our two rooms which resulted in a number of staff knocking on our door for one reason or another. All the above was discussed with the acting duty manager and I was assured that changes would be made.

Beautiful property, massive area to explore within the complex, perfect to just chill, rest and relax. All staff are kind and helpful.

The room is a little cold for this time of year, we have aircon in the room so it’s ok but would be more amazing once the fireplace is working. Would also be great to have some sandals in the room as the floor in the bathroom is cold.

Amazing place. Gorgeous rooms, excellent complimentary mini bar, fabulous breakfast and very lovely staff. The place itself is stunning.

Nothing! Kids playground could be a little more kid friendly but that was a tiny point.0

The hospitality and welcome was amazing. We felt thoroughly spoilt from the start. The staff were very attentive and the attention to detail made it feel more than a four star hotel. I especially enjoyed the welcome neck massage as a sample of the spa treatments available.

As it’s been newly renovated, everything is beautiful and modern. However the acoustics in the dinner restaurant sound very echoey almost hall like. Despite its very cozy and modern design, I think some attention to this is still needed to better the ambience. As the food is really good and the restaurant is well worth a visit.

The hotel was completely refurbished in March 2025 and I stayed two nights about a month after the opening. The rooms are very nice and elegant and the food in the main hotel restaurant is excellent, not to mention of course the wines which is one of the reasons I selected this hotel. The estate is huge and I was given a private tour which was a great highlight of my stay. It is really a great place to stay, and I would certainly return hoping they iron out many of the kinks related to the hotel management.

Staff at the hotel do not seem properly trained and the absence of an experienced hotel manager is noticeable. Some irritating examples:(1) I wasn't told during my stay that Spier Farm was hosting an acclaimed "light show" with art works (my cab driver told me). I then booked the private tour offered for hotel guests (no mention anywhere). The guides (2 Stellenbosch students) had never been to the light show and knew very little about it.(2) I kindly asked the reception lady twice to book the the complimentary neck massage and send me a Whatsapp message. She never did.(3) The air-conditioning unit broke down on the 2nd day and they couldn't fix it because it was Sunday.(4) At the main restaurant, I was overbilled for a glass of Creative Block 5. Instead of ZAR 135 I was charged 600. The waitress duly apologized saying she had included the price per bottle. (The price per bottle is ZAR 430 so not sure what happened there)(5) At breakfast the final day, there were a dozen workers fixing doorways, drilling holes in planks, hammering things in the breakfast room area and just outside near the pool.(6) At noon I decided to lounge at the pool, happy that the unpleasant morning noise had finally gone away. This is when a large cement truck parked right next to the pool area, and started to pour cement very noisily. Had to leave.(7) Notwithstanding all of this, it was challenging to get the Reception desk to extend my checkout by half an hour (from 11 to 11:30) as I needed some extra time to complete a tour of the Spier Farm with one of their employees.(8) Similarly, when I had arrived on Saturday morning at around 10:30 I was told that I could not check into the room because checkin was at 2pm. A porter escorted me to their pool area "changing room" which turned out to be a bathroom with urinals and a toilet.

Newly renovated property with such attention to detail and comfort. Everything is perfectly curated. The staff friendly and informative, the food tasty and plentiful, and a pretty space for short walks. The upgraded spa is gorgeous and the treatment was excellent. Wish we'd had stayed a little longer.

We loved the smokehouse and had a lovely meal there, really enjoyed the wine tasting and beautiful grounds. We really liked sitting by the lake with a glass of wine in the early evening. While we were there we were lucky there was a light show in the evening which was great.

It was difficult to get in touch before our stay, there was an issue with messages on booking com. The air con in our room was leaking

A lot of space, great breaktfast and many fun things to do!Very child friendlyThe food at the hotel restaurant is great!Beautiful roomsAccess to a semi private pool

The wine tasting was very impersonal. The hotel guests get a complementary free winetasting and we got a very short intro, little explanation and could not choose which one of the tastings we want to do. We would have paid for a better experience but we got never asked. The Vasa Restaurant was not so great

the estate is very big, nice place to do walks, plenty of pools, kids area, the open field is great for kids too. The breakfast was lovely , nice selection and great area to sit by the garden. Food is very fresh and sutainbily sourced. Great over all ambiance.

nothing really, I was sad we coouldn't get a dinner table when we arrived as it was fully booked. I recommend to book at main prior.
