Pros +
- Great value for the money. I called for laundry service to get some shirts washed and was going to leave the bag by the door as instructed. Instead, the front desk person came and grabbed the laundry bag quickly. That's what i call service.
- Breakfast was convenient with a wide variety. View is spectacular. Check in was a breeze and staff on top of their stations.
- The Protea Hotel is a large conference centre style hotel with multiple restaurants, a pool, a gym and a games/play area. There is lots to do on the property making it a great place to stay as a family. The breakfast is one of the best hotel breakfasts I have had anywhere and really helped to start off the day. We also had dinner at the restaurant which was very good. We had requested to have two rooms close together as we were a family of four staying two people in each room and wanted to be close to the kids. The hotel was able to accommodate that request and set us up perfectly with rooms that were connected by a entryway. One room had two beds and a bathroom, the other had a large bed, bathroom and living area. Perfect!
Cons -
- Although the buildings fairly new, it looked like the buildings were constructed quickly. The room looked great, but the fit and finish look rushed.
- Cleanliness of shower floor and drain.
- The location is a bit out of the way and there really isn't anything close by so you have to drive if you want to go anywhere.

They messed up our booking blaming Booking.com. We had only 3 out of the 5 rooms we booked. Our other tour group members has to stay at another hotel at a much higher cost
Some of the staff. The way they handled our matter. They were quick to blame booking.com
Excellent service, very friendly staff , great breakfast clean and very spacious room. Will come back again !!
Staff is absolutely friendly and helpful, breakfast was excellent with so many options.
neighboring room was very loud, water was very weak in the toilet.
The Location is stunning.I requested a room with a view and this was arranged and we were allocated with a room upstairs that had a stunning view of the mountains and surrounding areas.A perfect position to enjoy the surrounds. The breakfast spread was fantastic and again the breakfast room was well positioned to appreciate the beautiful views. We would definitely stay here again. Loved it and the location.
It was a great pity that the rooms balcony did not have a table and 2 chairs to sit and take in and appreciate the beautiful views. Suggestion for management: This would be a welcome addition.
The room was clean and positioned so well that my view was the wine farm across the fence. Breakfast was great. The staff members who were meant to be the waiters were very unwelcoming.
The hotel didn't have a backup supply of water, jojo tanks or a borehole supplying the ablution areas. There was a burst pipe in the area, and it was a struggle to get water to flush.
The views and location.
The bathroom situation. Awkward shower setting, small bathtub.
the location, breakfast 9caters for all dietary requirements), the staff, etc. A perfect place for family, honeymoon and business.
The property was located in a good spot and had a very well equipped gym. The room was a bit dated but sufficed.
Some of the staff seemed quite disgruntled, not very helpful in many instances and it seemed as if we were disturbing them when asking questions or for help.
Extremely spacious rooms. Large bed. Breakfast was superb. Great facilities, gym, swimming pool. Great views. Good value for money. Great for families. Kitchenette and interleading rooms.
Few tv channels. It is located outside town, so need own car for reaching the hotel.
The room was comfortable and clean. Good mountain view. The breakfast was very good.
Food was nice. Apartment was comfy. Breakfast had a nice variety . View was stunning.
The channels on the TV was not aligned to the card displaying which channels are on the allocated TV channels. Cleaning crew just walked into my room on the morning of the 26th whilst I was getting ready to pack and go to breakfast. Would have loved to have a blanket in the cupboard to cuddle up under.
Excellent stay at the hotel . Staff were extremely helpful and efficient . Breakfast Staff were absolutely amazing and extremely helpful. Rooms were spacious and clean .
Very efficient check in and helpful staff. Good breakfast and more than excellent food and service at the Wingert restaurant.
Bed
Room very clean and very good views
shower too small
Very pleasant room and common spaces. Extremely helpful staff. Breakfast buffet is a real spread. Lots of good choices.
The location has nice views of the mountains. But we are people who like to walk and there are no pleasant walks in the vicinity.Dinner was good, with ample portions (much too large for us). Good, but not exciting.
Location
Service with dinner, there were not enough waiters to handle the volume of people
View from our room over the mountains was fantastic. Breakfast was very good. . All serving and kitchen staff were fantastic. Swimming pool great size (25 metres ?) Beds very comfortable.
More varied selection of fruit at breakfast (more or less same fruit every day). Also selection of seeds.... You did serve pumpkin seeds, but it would've been nice to also have sunflower seeds, chia seeds, linseeds, etc.Hot porridge would have beeen welcome. Swimming pool water needed attention. Chemicals not quite right, so water although clean, very cloudy. An extra chair in the room would have been nice.

PROTEA HOTEL BY MARRIOTT STELLENBOSCH ANNOUNCES EXCITING ADDITIONS TO THEIR CONFERENCE FACILITIES On 29 May 2023, Protea Hotel by Marriott Stellenbosch will break ground on an ambitious construction project that will add two new conference venues and a new executive suite to their existing conference offering. There are already several compelling reasons why Cape Town is the #1 Convention City in Africa and why the Winelands, in particular, draws thousands of conference delegates every year, surrounded as it is by picturesque vineyards, rich heritage, gourmet cuisine and majestic mountains all within an hour’s drive from Cape Town city center. Now, there is one more. “When our new additional conference areas are complete,” General Manager, Deleur Stander, reported, “we will have a total of 1500m2 of conference and exhibition space, making us the largest conference and exhibition facility in the Winelands … and this excludes our public spaces.” The hotel currently offers 7 conference venues, 4 executive suites and 176 apartment style rooms. With the completion of this project in September, there will be an additional 450m2 of meeting and exhibition space, an additional executive suite, bringing the total number of suites to 5, as well as beautiful new bathroom facilities. All of this will be undertaken by Isipani Construction, headquartered in Paarl. At the same time, the Cultivar Restaurant is being refreshed, redesigned, and refurbished. In addition, Protea Hotel by Marriott Stellenbosch, continues to pursue its Earth-friendly policy through the installation of 489 solar panels on the extended roof and carports, generating 322kw of energy which represents a saving of 341 metric tons of CO2 annually. The solar project will be undertaken by Viridis Ipsum Green Technologies. During the construction period, the conference facilities at Protea Hotel by Marriott Stellenbosch will be closed, but rooms and Die Wingerd restaurant will largely operate as usual. The hotel will be undergoing refurbishment and expansion from 01 June 2026 to November 2026 (main building), and from 01 July 2026 to July 2027 (adjacent outdoor parking area). While work will be limited to daytime hours, some construction activity may be visible. Please inform of your expected arrival time in advance. You can use the Special Requests box when booking, or contact the property directly using the contact details in your confirmation. Payment before arrival by bank transfer is required. The property will contact you after you book to provide instructions. Guests are required to show a photo ID and credit card upon check-in. Please note that all Special Requests are subject to availability and additional charges may apply.
