Kings Gate Motel

Location for getting transport to Abel Tasman start (Heaphy bus). Walkable to big grocery store and bars/restaurants and shopping.

Clean but tired looking. Met our needs.

When we advised the manager we were not happy with the accommodation we were given a refund so we could find another place, which was appreciated.

The property was extremely run down, very dated and filthy. It looked nothing like the pictures on the website and is charging 4 star pricing for a 1 star facility. It was disappointing to be so misled.

Room was adequate. Facilities were good. Bed was comfortable.

Lots of road noise.

It was a small poky room on the other side of laundry .A few spider webs no internet. Found an empty dirty pizza box in a draw. The shower was over a spa bath so had to be careful getting in and out.

The location of the motel is good and within walking distance to the city centre and close to some great eateries. It is unfortunate that it rain rather heavily during our stay so we did not do much walking. The rooms are spacious and bed is warm.

The WiFi is intermittent and the TV (works on digital signal) also did not function well. The utensils are fully equipped - The mugs are however with coffee stain but we could manage. We were placed on 2nd floor and next to stairs so we could hear a bit of movement but it is understandable as the motel is fully booked.

Money was not worth the stay there. Also we were a towel short when they knew we were a family of 4. Also told them shower was blocked but never came to look. when they emptied our rubbish they left our door unlocked. Not a great stay

Property rated as 4 stars. What a joke a completely inappropriate rating!!Would be lucky to be 2.5 stars!Facilities very run down. Shower drain was blocked. Water nearly overflowed.No milk for tea/coffee despite leaving a request message on mobile. No contact from management.Kitchen sink tap quite loose nearly falling off.Never saw nor heard from any motel person. First night we were the only occupants. Next night 3 other poor souls arrived.

Another fantastic stay at Kings Gate Motel.Hosts are fantastic, were great to communicate with & had a pleasant time being around ?Really enjoyed our stay & look forward to staying again in April.

Location is good, a short walk into the town. Size of the room is good.

The place is fine, and fine just isn't enough for a hotel nowadays when you have so many to choose from, especially at $300 for a night. The greeting was sour and short, 'do you have a reservation' and 'do you need milk' were the only things he said. The door mat is thread bare, the carpet in the room should be burnt and the sofas (soft black leather) are filthy and 20 years old. The bathroom and kitchen have been renovated so they are good but it wasn't cleaned very well and the whole place smelt musty and of cooked food and dirt. The walls are damaged, the curtains filthy and the whole place looks unloved and uncared for (one bed side lamp had no bulb and the other didn't work). The kids play area is dilapidated, the bins (overflowing) are in the middle of the courtyard, the back 'garden' (seen from all the back windows in the room) is dirty, littered with junk, with weeds everywhere and simply a waste of space. You just get the idea that the owners either don't care or don't know how to care. When you stay in a hotel you want to feel that you are on holiday not that you are homeless and just so pleased to have a bed for the night.

Ant infestation , when I alerted the staff, it may have been dealt with, but the dead ants were left on the floor.The entire apartment needs a professional clean. Crumbs were in the kitchen drawer , dirty hand marks on doors, hairs on vanity, and on shower floor. Mold at the bottom of the shower screen..

We had a great stay at Kings Gate Motel over the weekend. Our room was a great size and the bed was really comfortable. It was a short walk into the city and easy to reach the airport via a bus or taxi.

Centrally located, easy walking distance to shops and restaurants. Big comfy room.

The rooms were a little bit worn and the cushions looked a bit grubby. For the price I would expect it to be very clean and well kept.

Great location with very pleasant hosts. Large room with good facilities. Very easy walk to town restaurants etc.

Close to city centre and staff seemed friendly enough

Was very run down and over priced compared to what was on offer in places around there. The pool pump went all night and as the room backed onto it it was impossible to get any rest.
