    Pros +

    • Centrally located, with a huge kitchen with great views out to the ocean. The internet was also fast and reliable (not always the case in New Zealand hotels.)
    • Central position with café bar and food below was perfect for my requirements.
    • Excellent value for money.

    Cons -

    • Not enough bathrooms, particularly for men (as construction workers from a site next door also use the bathrooms.) Extremely limited hours at reception, which isn't right for an establishment of this size. No parking available during daylight hours.
    • Noise of doors closing and opening was noisy while sleeping early morning and late evening. Suggest explore soft-closing mechanism to hallway doors. Please install tea towel rails in kitchen and signage. I could be your maintenance guy!
    • The kitchen and fridges were not very clean and the shower had lots of mould on the ceiling (definitely quite damp everywhere)

The room was very comfortable and had all the charging points necessary, location is great (right next to Intercity bus stop and easy accessible into town)

The kitchen and fridges were not very clean and the shower had lots of mould on the ceiling (definitely quite damp everywhere)

    Central location.

The lift was out of service. We had all our luggage with us.No parking on site. We had to find overnight parking a few blocks away.

    9ShirleyPosted on: 11-4-2025

We did our own breakfasts etcCentral easily locatedAble to get our bikes in the lift

Parking was tricky. Designated carparks for guests would be a good idea

The bathrooms and kitchen are fine. It meets basic needs. In terms of price-quality ratio, it's fine.Quiet place, not much people, silencie in the morning (really good) The bed was fine

The room was very cold, and the entire building smells strange. Parking in the area is paid, and it can be difficult to find a spot but It's okay because they don't offer parking, it's just an observation for future trips. We used the stairs, I didn't try the elevator. It looked old.

    Great value for central location

No staff on reception, had to check in through the restaurant

    10RosemaryPosted on: 4-19-2025

Sooooo…… central and convenient. Intercity, Catch a Bus etc., all stop outside the Lodge/hostel and restaurant/cafe downstairs. There’s a lift. Staff very helpful and kind and happy! Comfortable lounge. Ideal stopover for Bluff and Stewart Island and the other way round.

Kitchen needs a thorough clean. Fridge and Free Food shelving need thorough clean. One cooker doesn’t seem to work. 2 bins need labelling as no one knows which bin is for which type of rubbish!

    9RosemaryPosted on: 4-12-2025

Right in front of Intercity bus stop! Central. Quiet. Clean. Comfortable. Pillows could be better! Two comfortable sitting rooms and large kitchen.

    Nothing! Maybe 24/7 Reception.

Just rude and rude WOULDN'T RECOMMEND

Everything the communication between staff was crap as she said we could have our baby there then next day why we got kicked out with our 15 month old baby but got told I was aloud him there on arrival and then was like ,an hour late for paying for second night ..but told other staff ... THEN RHE BUT OWNER barged WITHOUT PERMISSION into our room and kicked us And USED fowl language in front of my son NOT COOL

Didn't know there was breakfast with the room but the restaurant downstairs was open at 7

Good place to stay central to town. Basic rooms and some cleanliness issues but has everything you would need for a few days.

    8CavanaghPosted on: 3-28-2025

The location was perfect for me because I travelled by the InterCity bus. It was a bonus to be by the main shopping centre. I didn't buy anything at the 24-hour shop across the street but thought it good it was there if needed - and if I wasn't able and prepared for the longer walk to the supermarket which fortunately was wthin walking distance.I hadn't expected a backpackers building to look so modern and newly decorated. I appreciated the opportunity to heat a boxed dinner even though I wasn't staying n accommodation where I hd my own microwave oven.

I've just remembered that in the en suite room with the double bed I had to decide between the side with a bedside cabinet and the side where the light could be turned on and off without having to get out of bed. If I remember rightly this was the place where the bedside lamp didn't provide light for reading and writing in bed.

Cosy unit, nice views. Everything we needed in the unit.

The walls between units were a little thin.
