Pros +
- Room was comfortable and clean, with everything that we needed. There is a supermarket close by if you want to cook your own dinner, but James in the front reception was a font of knowledge of nearby good restaurants if we had wanted to eat out. He was also very helpful in telling us about other useful places in Invercargill and beyond (and we did drop by his talented artist friend in Tuatapere that he recommended checking out on our way to Manapouri). Tower Lodge Motel is also within walking distance of the southern end of Queens Park, which is the end with the all the good stuff, in my opinion.
- You get a positive experience right from check-in when the friendly proprietor asks about your travels and provides advice on where to go and what to see. As is apparently common in New Zealand motels, the room entrance is through a patio style sliding glass door open to the parking lot (you park in an assigned spot in front of your unit). We had a handicapped accessible room with a huge roll-in shower. There was plenty of space in the living space, kitchenette, and bedroom. A great place to stay.
- Comfortable, clean, quiet…
Cons -
- The only negative is you can only access the entrance to the parking area traveling in one direction due to a raised median on Queens Drive, so you might have to make a U-turn. There is a convenient gate controlled exit out onto a side street behind the motel.
- The only thing we didn’t appreciate was the manager declining to provide breakfast the next morning when it clearly stated that orders needed to be in by 8:00 and it was in fact 8:00. Since we had called two hours earlier, she could have taken our order then. Although we were somewhat sympathetic that it was “inconvenient,” the customer’s needs should always come first.

Helpful and friendly owners, clean and well-organised motel.
What a beautiful little, well cared for motel. We had a very comfortable stay. Great beds, tv in master bedroom was a bonus, we had a corner/end apartment so good natural light. Lovely staff. Across the road from park and Burt Monroe statue
James was a lovely host. He was very knowledgable about the area and super friendly.
We liked everything about the property
They offered laundry, and even helped me find a place to work after I had to check out. Plus they held my bags for me while I was visiting Stewart Island
If you don’t have a car, walking distance to anything useful about 15 minutes. I experienced minor occasional lapses with the WiFi, but it always recovered after a minute or so
I stayed here in mid-September 2025. The motel reflects the province of Southland – spacious and hospitable. The management were very accommodating and flexible. The rates were very reasonable. Included in the rate, free of charge was the location. Very near Queens Park (for those ex-pats visiting home) and very near the CBD, all within easy walking distance. Big rooms, very clean, comfortable, parking and safe (despite Invercargill being a very safe spot anyway), and a very quiet area. Easy to find and to drive into.
Nicely set up room with huge bathroom and separate room for bed
Couldn't find a place to plug in the heater in the bedroom
Friendly and helpful check in. Really well equipped kitchen. Comfortable bed, all in all a great value.
Great location right next to Queen's Park Invercargill. There is a coin operated laundry service on site. Host is very friendly.
Frying pan provided was already warped and non stick coating coming off. Didn't dare to use it to cook breakfast
Spacious, clean and very comfortable room. Good location, close to the gardens and about a 15 walk into the city centre.
Good sized unit on ground level with full kitchen and decent bathroom. Guest laundry was useful. Manager was very helpful.
Friendly and welcoming individuals that run the motel! They gave excellent recommendations on where to go on my journey through the South Island, some I might have never known about. Highly recommended a stag here and will be back certainly.
Close to amenities like supermarket, liquor shop, gas stations, Chinese take away shop and so on.Very comfy and clean❣️
The off street parking with a gate to exit out the back felt secure as compared to many hotel lots. Convenient to downtown and restaurants. Quiet neighborhood and with the park across the street, nice location to unwind at the end of the day.
Clean, accessible, quiet & cosy on a chilly winters night. A good motel, set up for longer than just an overnight stay. Bed linen fresh & clean. Mattress lost its firmness, perhaps seen better days.
The staff is really helpful and recommend good eatery around the area. The WiFi is good and the room was equipped with Netflix. The motel is near to Queen’s Park which has beautiful gardens and jogging track.
Good Location , James who was on Reception was very nice and informative about our stay. Where to eat and how to negotiate a drive through the Catlins to see the best spots.
Nothing really.
James was a great. He give us a lot of information of catlins area.
We wish it had a sink so we could access to water easily.
