GreenStar Hotel Joensuu

Location near the marketplace and waterfront are perfect. There is a shared kitchenette on every floor with plenty of refrigerator room (microwave but no stove). The beds are more comfortable than most others we experienced.

Parking fee 16e per night, but we found free street parking. When I booked, my impression was that breakfast was included but it is an additional 12e per person. At least charges aren't unreasonable.

Every sound from the neighboring room was heard in the bathroom.

The breakfast was good, the staff were helpful, and the location was convenient.

The dishes need to be washed more carefully before being placed on the breakfast table.

Cleanliness and being pet friendly. Im happy on how they welcome my cat in the reception and providing some food/water bowl and toyball.

Nothing, everything is excellent

The room was excellent as usual. Clean, crisp linnen. Extra bedding, pillow and towels. Good shower and toilet. I thought the room could have been a bit warmer during the night. But temperatures were mild so ok. Had a good night sleep.

Breakfast was a bit disappointing. The bread and rolls were not fresh and dry. Pancakes very nice. I thought Scrambled eggs were quite salty . Sausages were cold. Only strawberry jam (labelled on the plate) However mixed berries for the yoghurt contained strawberries (were not labelled at all) I mentioned this to the staff. What if one is allergic to strawberries and not notice this when adding in the yoghurt. This could result in serious problems. The milk on the other hand was labelled lactose free.Coffee and tea are available. I felt the hot water in the container could have been a few degrees warmer. There was fresh fruit. Ham, turkey, gouda and emmenthaler cheese. Very nice. Small biscuits also nice. Crockery and cutlery nice and clean. Real teaspoons, extra points for that.Note: breakfast cost is €12.50 per person.

Sufrace materials are old. I really don't mind, this is just something that happens over the time. Other things are more important than brand new surfaces.

Still my preferred hotel in Joensuu. The location is amazing, overlooking the river and just in the town center. Superb staff and service. I highly recommend it to any visitor to the area.

I would love it if they included a dinner service at the restaurant. The experience I had during my stay which coincided with the Biathlon Competitions was just amazing. They served dinner only on that occasion!

No air conditioning is a big minus if hot weather, noise from the plumbing in the room whenever someone turned on the water in the neighboring room.

The staff member on duty in the evening when I checked in was very helpful.

The room was so ... minimal. Two single beds (and this was a Standard Triple Room, to boot), a single chair (an armchair - perhaps this is where the third guest sleeps), and a fixed-to-the-wall table top for one's tea/coffee-making delight. No welcome note, no water, not even a chocolate on the pillow. Despite the bathroom being spotless, and there being plenty of spare towels (and bedlinen), there is a sense of meanness. And this in a room that was 198 euros a night, with no breakfast - and no discount for single occupancy.But the breakfast ... ! Horrible coffee. Dirty cutlery and plates - and I object to being told to clear my table myself (a note to this effect on every single table in the breakfast room). When I complained to the Reception staff, I was told that I had to speak to another member of staff, and when I said to her "Tämän on tarkoitus olla hotelli, ei retkeilymaja!" ("This is supposed to be a hotel, not a youth hostel!"), the response was 'No-one else has complained.' Thus, some basic Customer Service training is sadly, badly lacking.

Really comfortable bed and very central location.

I thought that the breakfast was quite poor for the price, no bacon and just small sausages and scrambled egg as hot options.Really needed more variety.

The lack of proper shutters to make sure the room was properly dark to sleep. There was too much light coming through at night time. Both my daughter and I struggled with sleeping as a result
